Download or read book Rate of Spread of Fire and Its Resistance to Control in the Fuel Types of Eastern Mountain Forests A Progress Report Classic Reprint written by George M. Jemison and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-18 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rate of Spread of Fire and Its Resistance to Control in the Fuel Types of Eastern Mountain Forests: A Progress Report Since some dispatchers and fire planners are accustomed to thinking in terms of area, table 6 has been added to show the differences in average size of fire by fuel types. There is, of course, a marked relation between average final area and fire danger class, Shown in figure 3. Book Rates of Spread of Wildfire in Alaskan Fuels Classic Reprint

Download or read book Rates of Spread of Wildfire in Alaskan Fuels Classic Reprint written by Richard J. Barney and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Rates of Spread of Wildfire in Alaskan Fuels The data were stratified to provide meaningful input to fire models. The primary stratifications for our analysis were cover type (fuel) and direction of spread of fire (heading, backing, or flanking). Mature and young cover types were pooled, then analyzed. The broader cover types of conifer, hardwood, mixed conifer-hardwood, shrubs and brush, leaves, grass, and tundra were used. Book Fire Spread Characteristics Determined in the Laboratory Classic Reprint

Download or read book Fire Spread Characteristics Determined in the Laboratory Classic Reprint written by Richard C. Rothermel and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-19 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fire Spread Characteristics Determined in the Laboratory This study was designed to find the relative importance of fuel moisture and wind upon the rate of fire spread in light forest fuels. Systematic investigations of a physical phenomenon often produce an insight into its cause and effect. Through this technique, the authors hoped to gain a better understanding of the basic mechanisms of fire spread, which would enable them to develop hypotheses to be analyzed in future experiments. Book Fire Spread Characteristics Determined in the Laboratory

Download or read book Fire Spread Characteristics Determined in the Laboratory written by Richard C. Rothermel and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuel beds of ponderosa pine needles and white pine needles were burned under controlled environmental conditions to determine the effects of fuel moisture and windspeed upon the rate of fire spread. Empirical formulas are presented to show the effect of these parameters. A discussion of rate of spread and some simple experiments show how fuel may be preheated before the fire reaches the fuel. The interrelationship between unit energy release rate and rate of spread produces a fire characteristics curve. Diffusion flame analysis shows good agreement when working with 1/2-inch stick fires.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fire Control Notes, 1969, Vol. 30: A Quarterly Periodical Devoted to Forest Fire In the past decade, prescribed burning by many land management organizations has increased in both size and cost. Complexity has also increased because of accumulations of untreated logging slash and trends toward summer burning. As prescribed burning has increased, so has the need for tools to accomplish such burning safely and efficiently. The Missoula Equipment Develop ment Center is currently developing several tools for prescribed burning. One is a high-volume sprayer for ground application of retardants.
