Book Rankin v Rankin

Download or read book Rankin v Rankin written by Kelvin Rankin and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2024-05-13 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rankin v. Rankin: A Father's Divorce and Custody Fight within the Mississippi Judicial System is primarily designated to enlighten men of the triumphs, bias, discrimination, legality, and "gray areas" of seeking fairness during a contested divorce and parental custody. Through the experience of the prementioned case and its articulation, men should be able to have a foundation to realistically understand an ensuing divorce or custody fight for themselves or provide effective support to a colleague. Secondly, women who read this "case study" should consider advocating for truth related to divorce and paternal rights as an "equal fight under the law," not intertwined with other social issues or a play in support of femineity. Although this published work is from a male's perspective, both estranged husbands and wives, courts, and child advocacy institutions can glean knowledge from Rankin v. Rankin by understanding parts of the previously unknown backstories.

Book Mind Over Medicine

Download or read book Mind Over Medicine written by Lissa Rankin, M.D. and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2013-05-07 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We’ve been led to believe that when we get sick, it’s our genetics. Or it’s just bad luck—and doctors alone hold the keys to optimal health. For years, Lissa Rankin, M.D., believed the same. But when her own health started to suffer, and she turned to Western medical treatments, she found that they not only failed to help; they made her worse. So she decided to take matters into her own hands. Through her research, Dr. Rankin discovered that the health care she had been taught to practice was missing something crucial: a recognition of the body’s innate ability to self-repair and an appreciation for how we can control these self-healing mechanisms with the power of the mind. In an attempt to better understand this phenomenon, she explored peer-reviewed medical literature and found evidence that the medical establishment had been proving that the body can heal itself for over 50 years. Using extraordinary cases of spontaneous healing, Dr. Rankin shows how thoughts, feelings, and beliefs can alter the body’s physiology. She lays out the scientific data proving that loneliness, pessimism, depression, fear, and anxiety damage the body, while intimate relationships, gratitude, meditation, sex, and authentic self-expression flip on the body’s self-healing processes. In the final section of the book, you’ll be introduced to a radical new wellness model based on Dr. Rankin’s scientific findings. Her unique six-step program will help you uncover where things might be out of whack in your life—spiritually, creatively, environmentally, nutritionally, and in your professional and personal relationships—so that you can create a customized treatment plan aimed at bolstering these health-promoting pieces of your life. You’ll learn how to listen to your body’s "whispers" before they turn to life-threatening "screams" that can be prevented with proper self-care, and you’ll learn how to trust your inner guidance when making decisions about your health and your life. By the time you finish Mind Over Medicine, you’ll have made your own Diagnosis, written your own Prescription, and created a clear action plan designed to help you make your body ripe for miracles.

Book North Carolina Supreme Court Raleigh

Download or read book North Carolina Supreme Court Raleigh written by and published by . This book was released on 1850 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Petition filed to emancipate four slaves, pursuant to the wills of James and Sophia Davis. James died in 1837 and Sophia in 1848, and the defendants became their administrators. James's will gave two slaves, Nelly and Nehemiah, to Sophia for her life and then to their son Michael except Nelly and Nehemiah are to be free, if they can comply with the requisition of the law of this State. After the making of this will Nelly and Nehemiah had two sons, Wright and Alvis. Sophia directed in her will that the children were to go to her infant grandson James C Davis, the son of Michael (now dead), or to be freed if possible; under no circumstances were they to be separated from their parents. At the time this bill was brought Nehemiah was about forty-five, Nelly forty, Wright twelve and Alvis nine. Superior Court of Guilford County agreed that Nehemiah, Nelly and Wright could be freed and set out conditions for this process. The Caffeys stated that they were keen to emancipate the four slaves but that the defendant Rankin, the guardian of the infant James C Davis, objected to the emancipation of Alvis. In his answer Rankin stated that he objected to the emancipation of all the slaves, and put forward that Wright had been sold by Sophia to the late Michael Davis. The court found that the Caffeys could emancipate Nelly, Nehemiah and Wright after giving bonds of [dollars] 1,000 to the state to guarantee that the freed slaves would leave North Carolina, but that they could not emancipate Alvis, who was born after the death of James Davis. The Caffeys appealed; the Supreme Court upheld the judgment.

Book excerpt: Winner of the 2017 Christian Book Award for New Author Named one of the top books of 2016 by John Piper's Desiring God ministry To experience why the gospel is good news and answer life’s most foundational questions about identity, destiny, and purpose, we must understand what it means to be united to Christ. If you are a Christian, the Bible says that Christ has united his life to yours, that you are now in Christ and Christ is in you. This almost unfathomable truth is the central theme of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Yet few Christians today experience or enjoy this reality. Union with Christ reveals the transformational power of this ancient doctrine while addressing the basic questions of the human heart: Who Am I? Why Am I Here? Where Am I Headed? How Will I Get There? Nothing is more practical for living the Christian life than union with Christ. The recovery of this reality provides the anchor and engine for your life with God—for your destiny is not only to see Christ, but to actually become like him.

Book Saints of the Shadow Bible

Book excerpt: SUNDAY TIMES No.1 bestseller Ian Rankin returns with his gripping new Rebus novel. Rebus is back on the force, albeit with a demotion and a chip on his shoulder. A 30-year-old case is being reopened, and Rebus's team from back then is suspected of foul play. With Malcolm Fox as the investigating officer, are the past and present about to collide in a shocking and murderous fashion? And does Rebus have anything to hide? His old colleagues called themselves 'the Saints', and swore a bond on something called 'the Shadow Bible'. But times have changed and the crimes of the past may not stay hidden much longer, especially with a referendum on Scottish independence just around the corner. Who are the saints and who are the sinners? And can the one ever become the other?

Book Bodies on the Line

Download or read book Bodies on the Line written by Lauren Rankin and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2023-04-11 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the courts betray us and our leaders fail us, only we can keep each other safe. In this powerful, empathetic look at abortion clinic escorting, “one of the most under-covered and crucial, lifesaving, rigorous forms of activism out there” (Rebecca Traister), Lauren Rankin offers real hope—and a real call to action for a post-Roe America. Incisive and eye-opening, Bodies on the Line makes a clear case that the right to an abortion is a fundamental part of human dignity. And now that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v Wade, the stakes facing us all if that right disappears have never been higher. Clinic escorts—everyday volunteers who shepherd patients safely inside to receive care—are fighting on the front lines by replacing hostility with humanity. Prepared to stand up and protect abortion access as they have for decades, even in the face of terrorism and violence, clinic escorts live—and have even died—to ensure that abortion remains not only accessible but a basic human right. Their stories have never been told—until now. With precision and passion, Lauren Rankin traces the history and evolution of this movement to tell a broader story of the persistent threats to safe and legal abortion access, and the power of individuals to stand up and fight back. Deeply researched, featuring interviews with clinic staff, patients, experts, and activists—plus the author’s own experience as a clinic escort—Bodies on the Line reframes the “abortion wars,” highlighting the power of people to effect change amid unimaginable obstacles, and the unprecedented urgency of channeling that power.

Download or read book The Fear Cure written by Lissa Rankin, M.D. and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2016-03-08 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Not many people in the medical world are talking about how being afraid can make us sick—but the truth is that fear, left untreated, becomes a serious risk factor for conditions from heart disease to diabetes to cancer. Now Lissa Rankin, M.D., explains why we need to heal ourselves from the fear that puts our health at risk and robs our lives of joy—and shows us how fear can ultimately cure us by opening our eyes to all that needs healing in our lives. Drawing on peer-reviewed studies and powerful true stories, The Fear Cure presents a breakthrough understanding of fear’s effects and charts a path back to wellness and wholeness on every level. We learn:• How a fearful thought translates into physiological changes that predispose us to illness • How to tell true fear (the kind that arises from a genuine threat) from false fear (which triggers stress responses that undermine health) • How to tune in to the voice of courage inside—our "Inner Pilot Light" • How to reshape our relationship to uncertainty so that it’s no longer something to dread, but a doorway to new possibilities • What our fears can teach us about who we really are At the intersection of science and spirituality, The Fear Cure identifies the Four Fearful Assumptions that lie at the root of all fears—from the sense that we’re alone in the universe to the belief that we can’t handle losing what we love—and shifts them into Four Courage-Cultivating Truths that pave our way to not only physical well-being, but profound awakening. Using exercises from a wide range of mind-body practices and spiritual traditions, Dr. Rankin teaches us how to map our own courage-cultivating journey, write a personalized Prescription for Courage, and step into a more authentic life.
