This book focuses on the Holy Month of Ramadan and the traditions associated with it. The story of the Last Night of Ramadan entertains as it unveils the significance of Ramadan and Eid El Fitr and the traditions associated with them. Children's imaginative powers can be further enriched when the events unfold through the beautiful medium of a puppet show - something parents can enjoy creating with their children and teachers can create for a primary school context. It is especially important today for both Muslims and non-Muslims to develop a factual understanding of Islam--knowledge devoid of misconceptions--and to understand the reasons behind Islam's broad appeal. Written primarily for non-Muslim children and their families, the Enjoy Islam series is also an excellent means of reinforcing what Muslim children may already know about their faith. As children read The Last Night of Ramadan, will sense traditions and moral values that Islam shares with other religions, such as the importance of the family, respect toward older family members, and the special place afforded to mothers. The illustrations in this unique book for children brings to life this important time of the yearly cycle for Muslims around the world.

Book Caesarean Moon Births Calculations Moon Sighting and the Prophetic Way

Download or read book Caesarean Moon Births Calculations Moon Sighting and the Prophetic Way written by Hamza Yusuf and published by eBooks2go, Inc.. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prior to the advent of electricity, every night held the possibility of a celestial light show. People in even the most urban environments were exposed to the awe and majesty of the heavens, which clearly "proclaim the glory of God." The contemplation of the celestial orbs and their movements provided early man with the most direct connection to his Lord. In the Qur'anic story of Abraham, it is his observance of heavenly phenomena that leads him to his certainty of God's unity and transcendence. Since the time of the Seljuq Turks, the crescent moon has been a sign of Islam. For Muslims in North America, there has been much confusion regarding when Ramadan begins, when to fast, and when to break the fast. Hamza Yusuf provides clarity through this detailed and scholarly work that decisively makes the case for sighting the crescent moon with the naked eye, as has been the Islamic tradition for 1400 years. This is essential reading for anyone seeking guidance on this important and sacred matter.

Book Butterfly Moon

  • Author : Anita Endrezze
  • Publisher : University of Arizona Press
  • Release : 2012-09-20
  • ISBN : 0816502250

Download or read book Butterfly Moon written by Anita Endrezze and published by University of Arizona Press. This book was released on 2012-09-20 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anita Endrezze has deep memories. Her father was a Yaqui Indian. Her mother traced her heritage to Slovenia, Germany, Romania, and Italy. And her stories seem to bubble up from this ancestral cauldron. Butterfly Moon is a collection of short stories based on folk tales from around the world. But its stories are set in the contemporary, everyday world. Or are they? Endrezze tells these stories in a distinctive and poetic voice. Fantasy often intrudes into reality. Alternate “realities” and shifting perspectives lead us to question our own perceptions. Endrezze is especially interested in how humans hide feelings or repress thoughts by developing shadow selves. In “Raven’s Moon,” she introduces the shadow concept with a Black Moon, the “unseen reflection of the known.” (Of course the story is about a witch couple who seem very much in love.) The title character in “The Wife Who Lived on Wind” is an ogress who lives in a world somewhat similar to our own, but only somewhat. “The Vampire and the Moth Woman” reveals shape-shifters living among us. Not surprisingly, Trickster appears in these tales. As in Native American stories, Trickster might be a fox or a coyote or a raven or a human—or something in between. “White Butterflies” and “Where the Bones Are” both deal with devastating diseases that swept through Yaqui country in the 1530s. Underneath their surfaces are old Yaqui folktales that feature the greatest Trickster of all: Death (and his little brother Fate). Enjoyably disturbing, these stories linger—deep in our memory.
