Book excerpt: This easy-to-use atlas comprises a collection of representative common and unusual virtual colonoscopy (CT colonography, CTC) cases that physicians and radiologists may expect to encounter during their clinical practice. The atlas reflects the important recent advances in image acquisition, patient preparation, and image processing and is thus completely up-to-date. Each case is presented with the native CT images, integrated images obtained by 3D image processing, and colonoscopic correlation. Topics covered include normal appearances, anatomical variants, pitfalls, diverticula, lipomas, inflammatory bowel disease, polyps, flat lesions, cancers, and the postsurgical colon. By presenting the main features of anatomy and pathology, this atlas will serve as an invaluable tool both for radiologists performing CTC and for clinicians who need to review the CTC examinations of their patients.

Book MRI of Rectal Cancer

    Book Details:
  • Author : Arnd-Oliver Schäfer
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2009-10-29
  • ISBN : 3540728333

Download or read book MRI of Rectal Cancer written by Arnd-Oliver Schäfer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-29 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oncology in general has seen vast advancements over recent years. Improved und- standing of tumor biology, multidisciplinary team decisions and an individualized therapy are cornerstones of treatment planning for cancer patients today. These dev- opments have challenged the imaging community with ever more specifc questions on tumor detection, staging and therapy control. Whereas this evolution applies to many tumor entities, rectal cancer takes an outstanding role, as it was the recognition of certain anatomical and pathological features of the disease, with the help of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), that induced radiology not only to aid in disease mana- ment, but in fact to be a powerful engine for new concepts in rectal cancer treatment. The continuous improvement of highly specialized MRI and the groundbreaking scientifc contributions of radiologists all over the world have paved the way for s- stantial refnements of this technique during the last decade. Consequently, dedicated imaging protocols for routine diagnostic work-up of r- tal cancer patients are now available, which can guide multidisciplinary team de- sions and, in combination with optimized surgery and chemoradiotherapy, lead to longer survival and a better quality of life. Besides the scientifc advances, the enduring clinical success of MRI in the feld of rectal cancer is highly contingent upon expertise. To this end, ongoing education and continuous training are vital.

Book Atlas of Endoanal and Endorectal Ultrasonography

Download or read book Atlas of Endoanal and Endorectal Ultrasonography written by Giulio A. Santoro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of two-dimensional and three-dimensional endorectal ultrasonography has increased the diagnostic accuracy in staging and follow-up of anal and rectal tumors. As a consequence of the recent and continuous developments in diagnostic imaging, major advances have also been made in the field of surgery, with the advent of laparoscopic, robotic and microscopic transanal interventional techniques, and in oncology with the utilization of neoadjuvant chemotherapy and intraoperative radiotherapy. Written by internationally renowned experts in the field of endoanal and endorectal ultrasonography, this atlas provides a complete overview of different neoplasia and will be a useful companion in everyday clinical practice. The chapters are divided into three main parts illustrating: - the basic principles of ultrasonography, techniques of endoanal and endorectal ultrasonography, and surgical and endosonographic anatomy of the anal canal and rectum; - the ultrasonographic staging of anorectal tumors with numerous endoscopic, radiologic, operative, and histologic illustrations; - surgical and oncologic therapeutic strategies. Considering the wide range of topics covered, the volume will be of interest to surgeons, coloproctologists, radiologists, gastroenterologists, oncologists and radiotherapists.

Book Radiological Atlas of Common Diseases of the Small Bowel

Download or read book Radiological Atlas of Common Diseases of the Small Bowel written by J.L. Sellink and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-09-12 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: VI J. R. VON RONNEN PREFACE This atlas is a selection of the roentgenograms of patients who visited the Radiology Department at the University Hospital in Leiden between 1970 and 1974. The heads of this department are Prof. J. R. von Ronnen and Prof. A. E. van Voorthuisen. In this atlas, the most frequently occurring radiological abnormalities of the small intestine are illustrated as clearly as possible - without the shadows caused by flocculation or segmentation of the contrast fluid. The author hopes it will be a positive contribution towards the attainment of the highest possible diagnostic score. It should be remembered that the key to good diagnostics is not only a perfect examination technique, but also the knowledge and character of the physician. If these factors are optimal, then the best possible series of roentgenograms will be obtained, at least as far as technique is concerned. All patients were examined by the enteroclysis technique. With this method of examination of the small intestine, the contrast fluid is administered via an infusion directly into the duodenum instead of orally. The infusion method has added a new dimension to the radiological examination of the small intestine. This method has turned out to be especially suitable for the comparative evaluation of motility, and also for the study of disturbed motility.

Book The Radiological Examination of the Colon

Download or read book The Radiological Examination of the Colon written by D.J. Miller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to explain the current state of the art in radiological examination, interpretation, and understanding of colonic disease. The radiologic aspects of colon disease are combined here with clinical information to serve both beginners and advanced students. Major emphasis has been placed on technique for those radiologists, residents, and technologists first undertaking modern gastrointestinal radiographic techniques. The essentials of technique are stressed so that the reader obtains a clear understanding of colon disease based on sound practical information. We believe this book is a thorough and practical text of particular interest to clinical radiologists and gastroenterologists in their everyday practice, and also for teachers, residents and medical students. Digital examination and sigmoidoscopy are the first procedures in examination of the colon. Then, the radiologic examination is the next most important procedure. Endoscopy and biopsy play a compli mentary role to the radiological examination. The barium enema reveals quickly and early the overall status of the colon and it can then guide endoscopy and biopsy together with subsequent treatment. Surely, if the lesion is not detected our clinical, radiologic, endoscopic, and therapeutic skills are of no use.
