Book RF Radiation Safety Handbook

Download or read book RF Radiation Safety Handbook written by Ronald Kitchen and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 1993 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This general introduction to the sources and nature of RF and Microwave radiation covers the problems of RF safety management, including the use of measuring instruments and methods. Radio frequency radiation can be dangerous in a number of ways. Hazards include electromagnetic compatibility and interference, electro-explosive vapours and devices, and direct effects on the human body. The book is designed for people responsible for, or concerned with, safety. This target audience will primarily be radio engineers, but include those skilled in other disciplines including medicine, chemistry or mechanical engineering. The book covers the problems of RF safety management, including the use of measuring instruments and methods, and a review of current safety standards. The implications for RF design engineers are also examined.

Book Occupational Radio Frequency Radiation Exposure Levels from Radar Devices in the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport DMIA

Download or read book Occupational Radio Frequency Radiation Exposure Levels from Radar Devices in the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport DMIA written by Albert M. Llagas and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several studies have linked radiofrequency (RF) fields to biological effects in certain cells and these have raised concerns among the public and health organizations. Safety of the workers who are occupationally exposed to this type of radiation is a major concern because they would be the ones most exposed to RFR. This study aims to determine and analyze occupational exposure levels of radio-frequency (RF) radiation from radar facilities in Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) and to determine whether the RF exposure levels are within the allowed reference levels set by the CDRRHR of the Department of Health. The measurement was carried out with the use of the NARDA selective radiation meter SRM-3000. Exposure levels from near field, far field, and leakage regions were measured. For the far-field region the highest measured power density levels were measured at a distance of 2370 m from the radar tower for both PSR and SSR with values of 4.28 x10-3 W/m2 (2825 MHz), 4.07 x10-3 W/m2 (2775 MHz), and 2.941 x10-4 W/m2 (1030 MHz). In the near-field region the highest were measured at a distance of 3 m from the radar antenna with E-and H-field strengths of 1.395 V/m and 3.701 x10-3 A/m at 2825 MHz and 1.437 V/m and 3.812 x10-3 A/m at 2775 MHz for PSR. For SSR the highest E-and H-field strengths recorded were at a distance of 73 m with values of 0.3549 V/m and 9.415 x10-4 A/m. Lastly for leakage radiation the highest recorded E-and H- field strengths for PSR are 3.626 V/m and 9.620 x10-3 A/m for 2825 MHz and 2.755 V/m and 7.307 x10-3 A/m for 2775 MHz which were measured at the first waveguide joint to the rotor of the radar antenna. For SSR the highest E-and H- field strength recorded are 0.307 V/m and 9.04 x10-4 A/m which were measured in the 3rd floor of the radar tower. Thus, occupational RFR exposure levels from the radar device in the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport are within allowable level and do not pose any hazard to the health of radar workers in DMIA with regards to the currently known biological effects of radiofrequency radiation.

Book Radiofrequency Radiation Standards

Download or read book Radiofrequency Radiation Standards written by B. Jon Klauenberg and published by Springer. This book was released on 1995-04-30 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has sponsored research and personnel safety standards development for exposure to Radiofrequency Radiation (RFR) for over twenty years. The Aerospace Medical Panel of the Advisory Group For Aerospace Research and Development (AGARD) sponsored Lecture Series No. 78 Radiation Hazards,! in 1975, in the Netherlands, Germany, and Norway, on the subject of Radiation Hazards to provide a review and critical analysis of the available information and concepts. In the same year, Research Study Group 2 on Protection of Personnel Against Non-Ionizing Electromagnetic Radiation (Panel VIIl of AC/243 Defence Research Group, NATO) proposed a revision to Standardization Agreement (STANAG) 2345. The intent of the proposal was to revise the ST ANAG to incorporate frequency-dependent-RFR safety guidelines. These changes are documented in the NATO STANAG 2345 (MED), Control and Recording of Personnel Exposure to Radiofrequency Radiation,2 promulgated in 1979. Research Study Group 2 (RSG2) of NATO Defense Research Group Panel VIII (AC1243) was organized, in 1981, to study and contribute technical information concerning the protection of military personnel from the effects of radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation. A workshop at the Royal Air Force Institute of Aviation Medicine, Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough, U. K. was held to develop and/or compile sufficient knowledge on the long-term effects of pulsed RFR to maintain safe procedures and to minimize unnecessary operational constraints.
