Download or read book The Physics of Neutrino Interactions written by M. Sajjad Athar and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-12-03 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of neutrinos and their interaction with matter has made many important contributions to our present knowledge of physics. This advanced text introduces neutrino physics and presents a theoretical framework for describing relativistic particles. It gives a pedagogical description of the neutrino, its properties, the standard model of electroweak interactions, and neutrino scattering from leptons and nucleons. Focusing on the role of nuclear effects, the discussion extends to various processes of quasielastic, inelastic, and deep inelastic scattering from nucleons and nuclei. Neutrino sources, detection and oscillation, along with the role of neutrinos in astrophysics and motivation for the need of physics beyond the standard model are discussed in detail. This topical book will stimulate new ideas and avenues for research, and will form a valuable resource for advanced students and researchers working in the field of neutrino physics.

Download or read book B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.
Download or read book Quantum Electrodynamics written by Kinoshita Toichiro and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1990-07-31 with total page 1019 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum electrodynamics is an essential building block and an integral part of the gauge theory of unified electromagnetic, weak, and strong interactions, the so-called standard model. Its failure or breakdown at some level would have a most profound impact on the theoretical foundations of elementary particle physics as a whole. Thus the validity of QED has been the subject of intense experimental tests over more than 40 years of its history. This volume presents an up-to-date review of high precision experimental tests of QED together with comprehensive discussion of required theoretical work.

This book was released on 2014-03-28 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a great interest in improving the limits on neutron lifetime to the level of a precision of 0.1 s. The neutron lifetime is both an important fundamental quantity as well as a parameter influencing important processes such as nucleosynthesis (Helium production in the early universe) and the rate of energy production in the Sun.Aiming to create a roadmap of R&D for a next generation neutron lifetime experiment that can be endorsed by the North American neutron community, the focus of the workshop was on experiments using traps that utilize ultracold neutrons and confinement by a combination of magnetic and/or gravitational interaction in order to avoid systematic uncertainties introduced by neutron interactions with material walls. The papers in this volume summarize the limitations of present experiments, the discussion of new experiments in planning stage, and the discussion of systematic effects that must be addressed to achieve a lifetime measurement at an accuracy of 0.1 second.Cover image courtesy of Elena Fernández, Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Download or read book Advanced Quantum Theory Third Edition written by Michael D Scadron and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2006-11-29 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced Quantum Theory is a concised, comprehensive, well-organized text based on the techniques used in theoretical elementary particle physics and extended to other branches of modern physics as well. While it is especially valuable reading for students and professors of physics, a less cursory survey should aid the nonspecialist in mastering the principles and calculational tools that probe the quantum nature of the fundamental forces. The initial application is to nonrelativistic scattering graphs encountered in atomic, solid state, and nuclear physics. Then, focusing on relativistic Feynman Diagrams and their construction in lowest order — applied to electromagnetic, strong, weak, and gravitational interactions — this bestseller also covers relativistic quantum theory based on group theoretical language, scattering theory, and finite parts of higher order graphs. This new edition includes two chapters on the quark model at low energies.

Download or read book Tau Lepton Physics Proceedings Of The Second Workshop written by K K Gan and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-04-08 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The II International Workshop on Tau Lepton Physics was held in Ohio, USA in September 1992. Its purpose is to gather the experts on tau lepton physics to examine the current understanding of the tau lepton physics and to assess future prospects. A particular emphasis of the Workshop was a detailed examination of the '1-prong problem': the discrepancy between the inclusive measurement of one-charged-particle decay branching ratio and the sum of the exclusive decays. The Workshop also stimulated new ideas on tests of the Standard Model using the third generation lepton and assessed the future prospects of the lepton physics.
