Book Radiation Safety Procedures and Training for the Radiation Safety Officer

Download or read book Radiation Safety Procedures and Training for the Radiation Safety Officer written by John R. Haygood and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-09-17 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Radiation Safety Procedures and Training for the Radiation Safety Officer" is designed to provide radiation safety officers and users/operators of devices using radiation with the tools needed to operate a safe program, construct training materials and courses, AND to comply with regulatory requirements. It is centered primarily around radioactive materials license requirements, but much of the material can be applied to non-healing arts x-ray, accelerator, and laser operations and registrations. All of the information consists of either original text created by the author or compilations of regulatory information/requirements and of common knowledge scientific information found in standard tables and references. A minimal amount of radiation principles are offered to provide the reader/user with enough information to proceed through the material and operate a safe radiation program.

Book Radiation Safety in Nuclear Medicine

Download or read book Radiation Safety in Nuclear Medicine written by Gopal B. Saha and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-04 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition is a fully updated guide to radiation safety practice for nuclear medicine professionals, and assists the nuclear medicine technologists in taking their board certifying examination. The NRC requires the appointment of a radiation safety officer (RSO) or an associate radiation safety officer (ARSO) for different uses of radioactive material. Board certified nuclear medicine technologists are eligible to be RSO and ARSO in specific uses of radioactive material after successfully completing a 40-hr or 200-hr course on radiation safety depending on the type of RAM use. This book covers all subject materials in these courses on radiation safety. This guide provides ready-made, handy information on radiation safety as required in the practice of nuclear medicine, presented in a concise form for easy understanding and quick reference related to a given situation and/or incident. The major change in the new edition of the book is the addition of questions at the end of each chapter, to ensure the comprehension of the material by the examinees taking their certifying board examinations. As mentioned in the first edition, the NRC 10CFR20 for Standards for Radiation Protection and the NRC 10CFR35 for Medical Uses of Radioactive Materials are the primary sources of practical information on radiation safety in nuclear medicine. Much of the information is still valid, but many changes and additions have also been made since, which are fully updated here. This is an ideal reference for nuclear medicine physicians, nuclear medicine technologists, and researchers using radioactive materials.

Book Radiological Protection and Safety

Download or read book Radiological Protection and Safety written by Pushparaja and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2019-09-06 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is not a text book, but a very useful and unique reference book entitled Radiological Protection and Safety - A Practitioner's Guide designed to guide people, who are interested in radiological protection, Health Physicists (HPs), Radiological Safety Officers (RSOs) and Medical Physicists, operators, regulators, or anyone responsible for radiological protection of the workers, the patients, the public and the environment. Radiation protection is a multi-disciplinary subject. The concepts of radiological protection, radiation protection standards, regulations, types of radiation sources and the applications are continually changing over time. There are newer challenges to practitioners and facility management to ensure radiological protection and safety of the personnel and the environment, during normal operations and in emergency situations. There is a need to update their overall knowledge while developing processes/technologies in public domain on peaceful applications in medicine, research, industry and agriculture. Optimization of protection is the key to keep the exposures low. Public safety is of prime concern. This reference guide is written by a practitioner who has decades of experience in radiological safety and regulation. The guide is organized in about 300 pages and in 18 chapters, is intended to serve the purpose of finding all radiological safety related topics in one place, including the biological effects of radiation exposure, along with the recent references. It also covers the updated status on issues and topics of concern in natural radiation sources, nuclear fuel cycle operations and in the wide variety of applications of radiation and radioisotopes. Nuclear and Radiological emergency is considered important and is separately covered in the chapter on radiological protection in emergency exposure situations. Decades of operational radiation protection experience gained is transformed selectively to create knowledge to educate and train all those who are involved in the specialized topic of radiation protection, which is not taught in all colleges. The gap in the knowledge is expected to be filled to a great extent by this this reference book. It is invaluable and for keeps. Read this book to learn how the radiation hazards control measures like monitoring of the individuals, the workplaces and the environment demonstrate that the occupational exposures are low, and the environmental impact is negligible during normal operations. I dedicate this book to all the stakeholders in ionizing radiation utilization, including the radiation protection community.

Book Radiation Protection in the Health Sciences

Download or read book Radiation Protection in the Health Sciences written by Marilyn E Noz and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1995-12-31 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book takes a very practical approach to presenting a readable source of radiation protection material for anyone working in the areas of radiological and health sciences. It is a suitable text on the subject for students preparing for careers as radiologic and nuclear medicine technologists, for residents, and for medical health physicists. It is an good reference guide for anyone using radiation in the health field, including physicians. The first seven chapters consist of radiation protection principles which have general application. These include a discussion of instruments used in the field of radiation protection both for area and personnel monitoring which is rarely found elsewhere. Additionally, a description is given of SI units for radioactivity, exposure, absorbed dose, kerma and effective/equivalent dose as well as risk assessment and the current recommendations of the International Commission on Radiation Protection (ICRP) and the United States National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP). The basic radiation protection principles of time, distance and shielding are also discussed here. The next three chapters are concerned with the practical implementation in the workplace of the principles discussed earlier, including a chapter on specific recommendations for the safe use of common sources of radiation, the laws governing the use of these sources and the calculation of shielding required for these various sources of radiation. The last two chapters detail the methods of calculating absorbed dose from internally deposited radionuclides (including a very lucid discussion of the method proposed by the Medical Internal Radiation Dose (MIRD) Committee of the Society of Nuclear Medicine) and external radiation (including a discussion of the Bragg-Gray method). Each chapter has self-assessment review questions and problems as a useful aid to retaining important information. The four appendices discuss the current status of the units and their current and former usage as well as the concepts of logarithms. A complete glossary and set of references are also included. Answers to the problems are provided at the end of the book. Request Inspection Copy

  • Pages : 698 pages

Download or read book Radiation Protection written by Jacob Shapiro and published by La Editorial, UPR. This book was released on 2002 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This highly successful manual has served for nearly three decades as the definitive guide to the safe use of radioactive materials. Completely revised and updated, the fourth edition presents a new dimension by adding coverage of nonionizing radiation, and is thus concerned with the entire field of radiation protection. The author takes the novel approach of introducing the whole range of energies possessed by particles and electromagnetic waves at the beginning of the text, thus integrating coverage of ionizing and nonionizing radiation rather than considering them as two separate disciplines. He goes on to cover the entire spectrum of radiation sources, including radionuclides, x-ray machines, accelerators, nuclear reactors, power lines, microwave towers, and cellular phones. With its expanded coverage, including a broader focus on public health issues, this new volume will serve as an important training and reference resource, not only for research scientists, physicians, and engineers, but for regulatory officials, attorneys, engineers, and environmental health and safety professionals. The breadth of citations alone makes this resource invaluable.
