Book excerpt: Radha, an award-winning novel by Krishna Dharabasi, is a mythopoetic fiction that relies on a subject drawn from the epic Mahabharata with a special focus on the lives and relations between Krishna and Radha. Written from Radhas perspective, the novel excavates those subtle and discursive social constructs of that era that barred a woman from exercising her free will and licensed a man for following his unrestrained desires. The novel peels out those myth-making endeavors that gave Krishna an aura of a godlike personality and left Radha waiting on the fringe of the society to see his return and fulfillment of her desire.

Book excerpt: Who was Radha, and why has she captured the imagination of so many writers across centuries? No other goddess combines the elements of bhakti and shringara quite as exquisitely as the divine milkmaid. She spans a vivid rainbow of imagery-from the playfulness of the Ras Lila to the soulfulness of her undying love, from the mystic allure of her depictions in poetry, art and sculpture to her enduring legacy in Vrindavan. In a way that sets her apart from other female consorts, Radha is idealized and dreamed of in a way that is almost more elemental than mythical. Namita Gokhale and Malashri Lal, who brought us In Search of Sita: Revisiting Mythology, now present an anthology on the mysterious Radha, the epitome of love, who defies all conventional codes yet transcends social prohibitions through the power of the spiritual and the sensual, the sacred and the erotic. Finding Radha is the first of its kind: a collection of poetry, prose and translation that enter the historical as well as the artistic dimensions of the eternal romance of Radha and Krishna.

Book Radha Krishna the Epic Love Story

Download or read book Radha Krishna the Epic Love Story written by Esaiah Udhayakumar and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-07-25 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radha was five years elder to Krishna. That's why she could not marry him, they say. Another reason was that he was a prince and she felt that she was just a cowherd, though Krishna never felt like that. One more reason was that she witnessed some of his miracles right before her eyes and she considered him as a God. She worshipped him in her mind, so she could not develop mundane love. Nevertheless, their love was beyond these limitations, they were soul mates in many of their previous life times like Sita Rama or Lakshmi Narayana. Krishna left Vrindavan to Kill Kamsa at Mathura, when he was just ten, never to return again. Radha married Ayan alias Abhimanyu, gave birth to a son called Shon, lived with them till her husband died, her son got married and left Vrindavan to meet Krishna at Dwarka. She met Krishna in his palace. Though Krishna welcomed her and treated her with the same love, affection and respect that he had before, and asked her to stay with him in the palace, she was not happy there since he was busy with his duties and he could not attend to her personally. She left the palace without informing him and walked back to her city. When she was walking in a forest on her way to Vrindavan, she heard the footsteps of someone following her. She turned back to look at who it was. It was none other than Krishna himself! Krishna asked her why she left him without even informing him. She replied to him that she felt lonely there since he was busy with his royal duties and decided to go back to her city. He asked her what she wanted from him. She asked him to play his flute. Krishna started playing on his flute and she was hearing the divine music with her eyes closed. She never opened her eyes again. Krishna could not bear Radha's death and broke his flute as a symbolic ending of love and threw it into the bush. Krishna began to meditate in the forest to leave his body. A hunter named Jara perceived him to be a deer and shot an arrow at him. Ultimately the poisonous arrow took the physical life of Krishna.

Book Gita Govinda

Download or read book Gita Govinda written by Jayadeva and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2017-12-01 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jayadeva’s Gitagovínda is a lyrical account of the illicit springtime love affair of Krishna and Radha, a god and goddess manifesting on earth as a cowherd and milkmaid for the sake of relishing the sweet miseries and rapturous delights of erotic love. The narrative framing their bucolic songs was composed under royal patronage in northeastern India in the twelfth century. It was to be performed for connoisseurs of poetry and the erotic arts, for aesthetes and voluptuaries who, while sensually engaged, were at the same time devoted to Krishna as Lord of the Universe. The text at once celebrates the vicissitudes of carnal love and the transports of religious devotion, merging and reconciling those realms of emotion and experience. Erotic and religious sensibilities serve, and are served by, the pleasures of poetry. In the centuries following its composition, the courtly text became a vastly popular inspirational hymnal. Jayadeva's songs continue to be sung throughout India in fervent devotional adoration of Krishna.

Book Discovery of Prehistory Ancient India

Download or read book Discovery of Prehistory Ancient India written by Dr. Jagat K. Motwani and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2018-02-22 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nationalist and Revolutionary While a high school student, I actively participated in the Mahatma Gandhis 1942 movement Quit India. I felt disappointed because only a few prominent leaders like Gandhi and Nehru were imprisoned. On Sept. 9, 1945, under the patronage of the Dadu District British Collector, the town dignitaries including my grand father and Mr. Tuljaram Nagrani, the principal of the town High school, along with the matriculate students had assembled at the Hindu temple to celebrate the victory of the Allies at the WW II. Sweets were distributed. I threw the sweets on the floor. The reason I did this was not because I sided with the Axis powers. But because Indian soldiers were fighting for Britain, as India was not a free country. Next morning, the Principal got me in his office and whipped me several times on my palms and ordered me to leave the school and come back with my parent. The principal told my father that Jagat to pay a fine of Rs. 5 and threatened that in case of denial I will be rusticketed (expelled from school as a bad character student) and no school would admit me. I am proud of my father that he said that only Jagat to decide. I said that paying fine means admission of the guilt. In my opinion it was not a guilt. I, with recommendation of my class teacher Mr. Chandnani, got admission in the P. H. High School, Dadu, only about 50 miles away from my home town. In 1947 on the eve of partition, there was an accidently bomb explosion in Karachi, suspected of an RSS activity. Several RSS leaders were arrested. A Khalsa police officer secretly alerted my grand father to hide me to avoid arrest. I, along with a few RSS pracharaks, secretly reached Karachi to take a ship for Okha, Gujarat, then train to Baroda. In 1948, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse. Because Godse was an RSS member, the whole RSS all over India was banned. I participated in the collective protest against the injustice of punishing the whole RSS organization because of the crime by its only one RSS member. Whole family can not be punished because of the crime of its one member. I was imprisoned in Baroda jail for four months. Thousands of RSS members all over India were imprisoned. Dr. Jagat K. Motwani

Does Creation wish that we fail? Of course not! The purpose behind the Universe's grand design is to make us succeed. Our own unawareness of the laws of the Universe creates the impediment. Just as physical phenomena are regulated by laws, there are spiritual principles governing the journey of life as well. Knowledge of them helps us understand why success comes so easily to some but remains a struggle for others; why some are still putting on their shoes, while others have finished the race. The beauty is that, like the physical laws of nature, the divine principles governing happiness and fulfilment in life are also eternally valid. In this book, Swami Mukundananda explains the 7 divine laws in an easily graspable manner. With knowledge of the Vedic scriptures and witty anecdotes that everyone can relate to, this book will empower you to become the best version of yourself.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is not in distress in the present era' Some are anguished mentally some physically some by children some by spouse. There is no harmony in the family as before. Everybody wants to cook one's meal separately. The tradition of the joint family has already been shattered. One who is in trouble primarily wants freedom from it be it only a minor wound. His first priority remains to get relief from the pain whatsoever it may cost. The author of Lal Kitab had understood this principle much earlier and created trials or remedies imbibing good conduct righteousness and fundamental code of social and universal conduct along with the interweave of astrology so that the person might secure relief from the pain as well as remain connected with the societal customs. Most of the people in India are very well acquainted with the name of 'Lal Kitab' Originally this book was written by Shri. Girdhari Lal Sharma in Urdu language. Subsequently it was translated into Hindi language. Some adulteration is quite natural in the translated version of the original text. Primarily our rishi-maharshis godmen astrologers fortune-tellers like Narad Parashar Kalidas Varahmihir Jaimini Bhrigu etc. and the contemporary saints had prescribed yajna hawan worship chanting God's name rituals and donations to mitigate the bad effect of planets. Later on acknowledging the paucity of money and time Shri Girdhari Lal Sharma the author of the original Lal Kitab proposed remedies that were simple and required least expense of money. These easy remedies became very popular in India. Keeping in mind a code of conduct dharma practical aspects good conduct and the basic principles of life and the need for proper discipline in society the author had suggested the remedies which were accepted by the common men by heart. For example respect of elders service to parents offering grass to cow offering bread to dog feeding monkeys with gram and jaggery etc. are such remedies that can easily be done by everybody. The principality of twelve signs and nine planets of Indian astrology has also been accepted by Lal Kitab. The mere difference is that whereas in the prevalent astrology the ascendant is determined by the time of birth Lal Kitab always keeps it between Aries and Pisces.
