Download or read book Polarimetric Doppler Weather Radar written by V. N. Bringi and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-08-30 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2001 book provides a detailed introduction to the principles of Doppler and polarimetric radar, focusing in particular on their use in the analysis of weather systems. The design features and operation of practical radar systems are highlighted throughout the book in order to illustrate important theoretical foundations. The authors begin by discussing background topics such as electromagnetic scattering, polarization, and wave propagation. They then deal in detail with the engineering aspects of pulsed Doppler polarimetric radar, including the relevant signal theory, spectral estimation techniques, and noise considerations. They close by examining a range of key applications in meteorology and remote sensing. The book will be of great use to graduate students of electrical engineering and atmospheric science as well as to practitioners involved in the applications of polarimetric radar systems.

Download or read book Radar Meteorology written by Frédéric Fabry and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2018-03-01 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This practical textbook introduces the fundamental physics behind radar measurements, to guide students and practitioners in the proper interpretation of radar reflectivity, Doppler velocity and dual-polarization imagery. Operational applications are explored, such as how radar imagery can be used to analyze and forecast convective and widespread weather systems. The book concludes with an overview of current research topics, including the study of clouds and precipitation using radars, signal processing, and data assimilation. Numerous full-color illustrations are included, as well as problem sets, case studies, and a variety of supplementary electronic material including animated time sequences of images to help convey complex concepts. This book is a valuable resource for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in radar meteorology and other related courses, such as precipitation microphysics and dynamics. It will also make a useful reference for researchers, professional meteorologists and hydrologists.

Download or read book Innovation under the Radar written by Xiaolan Fu and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigating the nature, drivers and sources of innovation in Africa, this book examines the channels for effective diffusion of innovation in and to Africa under institutional, resource and affordability constraints. Fu draws on almost a decade of research on innovation in Africa to explore these issues and unpack the process, combining a rigorous statistical analysis of a purposely designed multi-wave, multi-country survey with in-depth studies of representative cases. Building on this research, Fu argues that African firms are innovative but unsupported. Those 'under-the-radar' innovations that widely exist in Africa as a result of the constraints are not sufficient to enable Africa to leapfrog the innovation gap in the era of the fourth Industrial Revolution. This is the first comprehensive analysis of the creation and diffusion of innovation in low income countries. It also provides the first survey-based analysis of innovation in the informal economy.

Book excerpt: The 2001 edition of Pub. 1310 Radar Navigation and Maneuvering Board Manual combines selected chapters from the sixth edition of Pub. 1310, Radar Navigation Manual, and the fourth edition of Pub. 217, Maneuvering Board Manual. This manual has been compiled by the editorial staff of the Maritime Safety Information Center at the National Imagery and Mapping Agency. It is intended to be used primarily as a manual of instruction in navigation schools and by naval and merchant marine personnel. By combining the previous editions of Pub. 1310 and Pub. 217 into one book we hope that we have provided a practical reference for mariners on board ship and instructors ashore. It is also intended to be of assistance to others who are concerned with marine radar in different and less direct ways.In combining the two manuals, every effort has been made to retain the original style and format which has proven to be clear and helpful to the maritime community. Most of the illustrations and examples have been carried forward into this edition. The chapter on ARPA has been expanded and now includes a sample operating manual for a modern commercial radar and ARPA. Many excellent other publications on ARPA are available and should be consulted for a more thorough understanding on this subject matter.Users should refer corrections, additions, and comments for improving this product to:MARITIME SAFETY INFORMATION CENTERNATIONAL IMAGERY AND MAPPING AGENCYST D 444600 SANGAMORE ROADBETHESDA MD 20816-5003
