Book The Sparse Fourier Transform

Download or read book The Sparse Fourier Transform written by Haitham Hassanieh and published by Morgan & Claypool. This book was released on 2018-02-27 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fourier transform is one of the most fundamental tools for computing the frequency representation of signals. It plays a central role in signal processing, communications, audio and video compression, medical imaging, genomics, astronomy, as well as many other areas. Because of its widespread use, fast algorithms for computing the Fourier transform can benefit a large number of applications. The fastest algorithm for computing the Fourier transform is the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), which runs in near-linear time making it an indispensable tool for many applications. However, today, the runtime of the FFT algorithm is no longer fast enough especially for big data problems where each dataset can be few terabytes. Hence, faster algorithms that run in sublinear time, i.e., do not even sample all the data points, have become necessary. This book addresses the above problem by developing the Sparse Fourier Transform algorithms and building practical systems that use these algorithms to solve key problems in six different applications: wireless networks; mobile systems; computer graphics; medical imaging; biochemistry; and digital circuits. This is a revised version of the thesis that won the 2016 ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award.

Book The Use of Frequency Agility to Achieve High Probability of Target Detection on a Single Radar Scan

Download or read book The Use of Frequency Agility to Achieve High Probability of Target Detection on a Single Radar Scan written by Wayne Rivers and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To achieve high probability of detection on a single scan, noncoherent integration of video signals can be more efficient than coherent integration if frequency agility is used to decorrelate the radar return pulse-to-pulse from a slowly fluctuating target. For a required detection probability of 0.9, the potential advantage from noncoherent integration of frequency-agile returns, as compared to coherent integration of the same total pulse energy on a single frequency, is about 5 dB for Swerling Case I-II targets and 2 dB for Case III-IV targets. The potential advantage is greater when higher detection probabilities are required. A strategy usable for both Swerling Case I-II and III-IV targets and P sub D values of 0.9 to 0.99 is indicated in which the burden of coherent and noncoherent integration is partitioned during the available dwell so that the number of statistically independent samples integrated after envelope detection is between 9 and 14.

Book Ground Targed Detection in Forward Scattering Radar Using Hilbert Transform and Wavelet Techniques

Download or read book Ground Targed Detection in Forward Scattering Radar Using Hilbert Transform and Wavelet Techniques written by Mohamed Khalaf Alla.H.M.H. and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis analyzed the electromagnetic signal scattered from the target crossing the Forward Scattering Radar system baseline. The aim of the analysis was to extract the Doppler signal of the target, under the influence of high ground clutter and noise interference. The scattered Doppler signal was processed by the proposed signal processing techniques to predict the existence of a target for the automatic target detection (ATD) in the FSR system. This thesis is dedicated to the detection of ground target, and for this purpose, a typical car was used as target. Two signal processing techniques, namely Hilbert Transform and Wavelet Technique, were used for target detection. The results gathered in this study showed that the detection using Hilbert Transform was only applicable for some conditions and it was used to confirm the wavelet efficiency in the detection process. Similarly, it was also found that the detection using Wavelet Technique became more robust to higher clutter and noise level. At the worst condition of the scenario, the successful detection rate is more than 75%. This good result suggest that the transmit signal can be as low as possible and open a new horizons for FSR to be applied in real applications for example in Radar Sensor Network and Microwave Fence .Two sets of field experimentations were carried out, and the target's signal under the influence of the high clutter was successfully detected using the proposed method. Finally, an algorithm for an automatic detection of the ground target detection in FSR is proposed.

Book Advanced Radar Detection Schemes Under Mismatched Signal Models

Download or read book Advanced Radar Detection Schemes Under Mismatched Signal Models written by Francesco Bandiera and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2009-03-08 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adaptive detection of signals embedded in correlated Gaussian noise has been an active field of research in the last decades. This topic is important in many areas of signal processing such as, just to give some examples, radar, sonar, communications, and hyperspectral imaging. Most of the existing adaptive algorithms have been designed following the lead of the derivation of Kelly's detector which assumes perfect knowledge of the target steering vector. However, in realistic scenarios, mismatches are likely to occur due to both environmental and instrumental factors. When a mismatched signal is present in the data under test, conventional algorithms may suffer severe performance degradation. The presence of strong interferers in the cell under test makes the detection task even more challenging. An effective way to cope with this scenario relies on the use of "tunable" detectors, i.e., detectors capable of changing their directivity through the tuning of proper parameters. The aim of this book is to present some recent advances in the design of tunable detectors and the focus is on the so-called two-stage detectors, i.e., adaptive algorithms obtained cascading two detectors with opposite behaviors. We derive exact closed-form expressions for the resulting probability of false alarm and the probability of detection for both matched and mismatched signals embedded in homogeneous Gaussian noise. It turns out that such solutions guarantee a wide operational range in terms of tunability while retaining, at the same time, an overall performance in presence of matched signals commensurate with Kelly's detector.
