Zagrith the daemon witch takes her from the safety of her home in America to Carrines, a mystical place of magic, aelfs, faeries, dwarves, humans, and half-aelfs but she soon finds that the land is constantly threatened by daemons, crazed mutants and monsters. In order to earn her way back home, Zagrith demands she fulfills a mission: she must bring a rusty enchanted sword to the dark mage, a rogue, who is destined to be the Protector of the Universe and if she is successful will defeat the hungry Gothfyl. She prepares to meet Michael, the dark mage, who has been devoid of emotion since he was a small child. When Rachel arrives, his emotions suddenly return and he blames her for all of his troubles. Rachel must earn his trust to make him believe that he is the rightful one to use the sword or the prophecy regarding the mage will never come true. But a problem arises-the sword is found to be tainted with daemon magic; it is no longer pure. Now, she not only has to deal with Michael's unpredictable behavior, she also has to contend with the people believing that she is a daemon witch that has cast a spell upon Michael to destroy him. As she rides with Michael and his Black Company to solve the mystery of the sword, Carrines' peace is threatened by the Gothfyl's minions as it tries to stop them. Should they prevent it from breaking through the barrier between its universe and theirs, it will be denied the sweet tasty energy it hungers for. And as the mages study the life sword and the prophecy, it becomes clear that Rachel's roll in saving their world is more than just giving the sword to Michael. She must get Michael to see the great part his nemesis the daemon lords will play in his destiny. Together they must persuade the races of Carrines to set aside their prejudices to defeat the forces of the Gothfyl. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Book and the Sword was Louis Cha's first novel, published in 1955. The story has a panoramic sweep which has at its heart a few unbeatable themes: secret societies, kung fu masters, and the sensational rumour so dear to Chinese hearts that the great Manchu Emperor Qian Long was not in fact a Manchu but a Han Chinese, a line of descent that came about as a result of a 'baby swap' on the part of the Chens of Haining in Southern China. It mixes in the exotic flavours of central Asia, a lost city in the desert guarded by wolf packs, and the Fragrant Princess. This lady is an embellishment of an actual historical figure - although whether she actually smelled of flowers, we will never know."--Jacket

Lady Sophia Huntington Villiers is no stranger to intrigue, as her work with Alan Turing’s Bombe Machines at Bletchley Park during the war attests. Now, as part of Simon Barre’s covert team in post-war Vienna, she uses her inimitable charm and code name Starling to infiltrate the world of relics: uncovering vital information that could tilt the stakes of the mounting Cold War. When several influential men charge her with finding the death mask of Mozart, Sophie wonders if there is more than the composer’s legacy at stake and finds herself drawn to potential answers in Prague. Simon Barrington, the illegitimate heir of one of Sussex’s oldest estates, used the previous war to hide his insecurities about his past. Now, he uses his high breeding to gain access to all four allied quarters of the ruined city in an attempt to slow the fall of the Iron Curtain. He has been in love with Sophie Villiers since the moment he met her, and a marriage of convenience to save Simon’s estate has always kept her close. Until now, when Sophie’s mysterious client in Prague forces him to wonder if her allegiance to him—and their cause—is in question. Torn between his loyalty to his cause and his heart, Simon seeks answers about Sophie only to learn that everything he thought he knew about his involvement in both wars is based on a lie. “Murky espionage and burgeoning passion twine beautifully together in The Mozart Code’s superbly evocative prose—an enchanting read!” —Kate Quinn, New York Times bestselling author of The Rose Code “Vienna is the new Paris in The Mozart Code, a World War II spy novel with deft, chess-like plotting, and plenty of old-fashioned romance.” —Susan Elia MacNeal, New York Times bestselling author of the Maggie Hope novels and Mother Daughter Traitor Spy “The Mozart Code is a smart, luscious romance, a thrilling suspense, and a thunderously good read. Book Stylish Academic Writing

Download or read book Stylish Academic Writing written by Helen Sword and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2012-04-02 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elegant data and ideas deserve elegant expression, argues Helen Sword in this lively guide to academic writing. For scholars frustrated with disciplinary conventions, and for specialists who want to write for a larger audience but are unsure where to begin, here are imaginative, practical, witty pointers that show how to make articles and books a pleasure to read—and to write. Dispelling the myth that you cannot get published without writing wordy, impersonal prose, Sword shows how much journal editors and readers welcome work that avoids excessive jargon and abstraction. Sword’s analysis of more than a thousand peer-reviewed articles across a wide range of fields documents a startling gap between how academics typically describe good writing and the turgid prose they regularly produce. Stylish Academic Writing showcases a range of scholars from the sciences, humanities, and social sciences who write with vividness and panache. Individual chapters take up specific elements of style, such as titles and headings, chapter openings, and structure, and close with examples of transferable techniques that any writer can master.

Book The End of the Fiery Sword Adam Eve and Jesus Mary

Download or read book The End of the Fiery Sword Adam Eve and Jesus Mary written by Maura Roan McKeegan and published by Emmaus Road Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do Adam and Jesus have in common? What do Eve and Mary have in common? More than you think! With full color illustrations, Maura Roan McKeegan has brought to life biblical typology for children. Taking familiar biblical stories from the Old and New Testaments and placing them side by side, children can see biblical typology jump off the page. Biblical typology is when a person or an event in the Old Testament foreshadows a person or an event in the New Testament. The Bible is full of these fascinating “types.” Children can now discover similarities of types without any difficulty, and easily understand at an early age what St. Augustine meant when he said that the New Testament lies hidden in the Old and the Old Testament is revealed in the New. Recommended for ages 3 and up.

A time to forge new alliances and to make war against the children of magic. There will be great loss for Rachel... and perhaps a chance to learn the terrible truth behind her shadow magic. “By the light of the gates, she saw her adversaries rise, bearing magical swords and staves. Rachel set down her candle stand and drew her swords. Somewhere, during the skirmish that followed, a flying, severed leg almost toppled her candle stand. She put out a hand to steady it. Some, the less hardy of them, fled at the sight of her. Ever afterwards, there would be a legend of a ghost in a torn white dress drenched in red blood, with crimson hair and a devilish grin. It was a world that could never be the same. A world that a woman would boldly change.”
