Book excerpt: Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this book provides valuable practical insight into both public supervisory legislation concerning insurance and private insurance contract law in Spain. An informative general introduction surveying the legal, political, financial, and commercial background and surroundings of insurance provides a sound foundation for the specific detail that follows. The book covers all essential aspects of the law and regulation governing insurance policies and instruments. Its detailed exposition includes examination of the form of the insurance company and its reserves and investments; the insurance contract; the legal aspects of the various branches of property and liability insurance; motor vehicle insurance schemes; life insurance, health insurance, and workmen’s compensation schemes; reinsurance, co-insurance, and pooling; taxation of insurance; and risk management and prevention. Succinct yet eminently practical, the book will be a valuable resource for lawyers handling cases affecting Spain. It will be of practical utility to those both in public service and private practice called on to develop and to apply the laws of insurance, and of special interest as a contribution to the much-needed harmonization of insurance law.

Book Transnational Accounting

Download or read book Transnational Accounting written by Dieter Ordelheide and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-17 with total page 3322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considerable effort has been made over the last ten years by such institutions as the EU, OECD, UNO and the IASC towards the harmonisation of accounting standards. It is recognised though that uniformity and true compatibility of financial instruments cannot be achieved while accounting operates in individual national economic and legal environments. A knowledge of national accounting standards and practice continues to be indispensable for the analysis of financial statements. Transnational Accounting is a unique comparative study of accounting standards of fourteen major economic powers, plus the regimes of the IASC and EU. Each chapter is standardised for easy comparison and written by a recognised expert in his or her country. The Editor, The Late Dieter Ordelheide, was Professor of Business Economics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt am Main. This groundbreaking work enables the reader to develop a thorough practical understanding of national accounting practices and be fully at home with financial statements in an international context. Each volume includes a detailed reference matrix listing approximately 100 key accounting subjects and their treatment across all regulatory and accounting regimes.

Book Glosario Del Banco Mundial

Download or read book Glosario Del Banco Mundial written by World Bank and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1996 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition of the World Bank has been revised and expanded by the Terminology Unit in the Languages Services Division of the World Bank in collaboration with the English, Spanish, and French Translation Sections. The Glossary is intended to assist the Bank's translators and interpreters, other Bank staff using French and Spanish in their work, and free-lance translator's and interpreters employed by the Bank. For this reason, the Glossary contains not only financial and economic terminology and terms relating to the Bank's procedures and practices, but also terms that frequently occur in Bank documents, and others for which the Bank has a preferred equivalent. Although many of these terms, relating to such fields as agriculture, education, energy, housing, law, technology, and transportation, could be found in other sources, they have been assembled here for ease of reference. A list of acronyms occurring frequently in Bank texts (the terms to which they refer being found in the Glossary) and a list of international, regional, and national organizations will be found at the end of the Glossary.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the European Union, national income tax systems support charitable activities by way of preferential treatment. However, a number of Member States operate relief regimes which appear to trigger the question of compatibility with Union law with respect to the fundamental freedoms. In this first study to examine charity and donor taxation regimes across a wide range of Member States, the author focuses on compatibility with EU non-discrimination law. She examines twenty national regimes, both comparatively and from the perspective of overarching EU law. The countries covered are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Although charity and donor taxation falls within the competence of the Member States, they must nonetheless observe primary Union law and grant non-discriminatory treatment where a fact pattern falls within the ambit of the fundamental freedoms. In the course of defining this framework, the study addresses such issues as the following: types of relief schemes maintained for charities and donors; administrative requirements; international aspects (both inbound and outbound); privileged donations and capital gains treatment of in-kind donations; eligible donees; whether and to what extent charitable entities and donors can actually rely on the fundamental freedoms; specific applicability of each of the relevant fundamental freedoms; the issue of comparability; justifications for restrictive measures in Member State practice; and the issue of proportionality.

Book Shareholder Voting Rights and Practices in Europe and the United States

Download or read book Shareholder Voting Rights and Practices in Europe and the United States written by E. Wymeersch and published by Springer. This book was released on 1999-12-13 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increasing interest of foreign investors, particularly institutional investors, in European companies, there is a growing need for information on the different regimes affecting the legal status of shareholders. Investors need to be aware of the rights and privileges of shareholders in various jurisdictions in order to participate effectively in companies' voting and decision-making processes. This book provides detailed analysis of the rules and practices in sixteen European jurisdictions and the United States, covering issues such as convening the general meeting, depositing and blocking of shares, participation rights, setting of the agenda, voting rights and proxy rules. The authors also aim to make companies aware of practices which may hamper effective shareholder participation and, in comparing the different rules and practices, to identify areas where further harmonisation might be undertaken within the European Community framework. The papers collected here are the result of a conference organised by Professor Theodor Baums, of the University of Osnabrück and Professor Eddy Wymeersch, of the University of Ghent.
