Quant aux perspectives de développement, elles restent difficiles dans un contexte d'ouverture des marchés ou le "professionnalisme" est plus que jamais le maître mot.Face à cette réalité souvent occultée,et pourtant facile à démontrer, les campagnes fragiles du grand Sud-Ouest se sont souvent engouffrées dans la voie touristique en espérant y trouver un moyen de renouveau ou, du moins, de maintien de l'existant.Mais l'adhésion majoritaire à la voie touristique (c'est ce qui ressort de notre enquête de thèse) n'est pas toujours guidée par les mêmes sentiments et les mêmes intentions.Elle traduit trop souvent une attitude de repli,un acte de renoncement qui ne sont en rien porteur d'un développement local et de "renaissance rurale".Le tourisme est trop souvent le révélateur du désemparement des ruraux. Les élus et les techniciens, bien qu'ayant une part de responsabilité, sont souvent les victimes d'une politique de décentralisation qui à dérivé - le contexte européen aidant -vers un désangagement de l'Etat, ce dernier laissant les territoires fragiles face à leur destin,avec comme principaux moyens de survie, l'attribution de fonds et d'enveloppes encourageant plus ou moins implicitement ceux-ci à se reconvertir en valorisant leur patrimoine leur patrimoine et en développant le "tourisme vert".

Coral reefs are sometimes referred to as "canaries of the sea" because of their early warning ability to show near-shore oceanic stress. Because of their biological diversity, they are also called "rainforests of the sea." Coral reefs are vital to the well being of millions of people. Coral reef managers and government officials trying to save their valuable national resources have turned to research on coral reefs for help. The research presented in this publication merits a great deal of notice because the output is useful for decision support and training tools in integrated coastal zone management (ICZM). The work on cost-effectiveness analysis has developed integrated economic and ecological models, relying extensively on fuzzy logic procedures to model impacts and effects of interventions within the reef environment. By contrast, the marine system valuation work provides economic valuations of coral reefs, demonstrating the use of different modeling methods and treating key policy issues within this context.
