Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The University Quo Vadis microform Dynamics of Globalisation and Its Impact on the University

Download or read book The University Quo Vadis microform Dynamics of Globalisation and Its Impact on the University written by Alexandru Larie and published by National Library of Canada = Bibliothèque nationale du Canada. This book was released on 2004 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thesis focuses on the phenomenon of globalisation and the changes it has triggered in the academy. I shall analyse the traditional Humboldtian and Newmanesque models, as well as the modern and postmodern university types. The socio-economic context is relevant to the understanding of the university's past, present, and future. The neoliberal state has challenged the welfare state and this has influenced the academic architecture in aspects regarding management and administration, financing, the professoriate, the students and curriculum, and research. As the producer of advanced scientific research and disseminator of knowledge, the university has been the central element in the triple helix paradigm. In a knowledge society, based on data and information acquisition and management, the entrepreneurial model, besides other future higher education providers, such as the virtual and corporate types, will probably coexist with the traditional university.

Book The Dominicans in the Americas and the Philippines c 1500 c 1820

Download or read book The Dominicans in the Americas and the Philippines c 1500 c 1820 written by David T. Orique and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-08-06 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dominicans in the Americas and the Philippines (c. 1500–c. 1820) is part of a renewal of interest in the global history of the Dominican Order. Many of the essays were carefully selected among some of the papers presented at the III International Conference on the History of the Order of Preachers in the Americas, a gathering that stands in continuity with the conferences of Mexico (2013) and Bogotá (2016). This book, the contributors of which are active researchers specializing in the history of the Order of Preachers in Latin America, is organized in four parts: Women and the Order of Preachers; “Benditos Bienes”: Libraries and Material Patrimony; Missions, Devotional, and Daily Life; and The Order of Preachers and Their Writings. Contributions deal with different subfields including art history, gender studies, history of the book, and intellectual history more broadly. Additionally, it contains a chapter examining the historiography of the Order of Preachers in Latin America. Covering the time range from 1510 to the early nineteenth century, the book fills a gap in the historiography of the Order of Preachers in the Americas, especially in English-language scholarly literature. Students of Latin American history, the history of Christianity, and the history of global Catholicism will surely find the volume to be of great interest.

Book Translation Adaptation and Transformation

Download or read book Translation Adaptation and Transformation written by Laurence Raw and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-12 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years adaptation studies has established itself as a discipline in its own right, separate from translation studies. The bulk of its activity to date has been restricted to literature and film departments, focussing on questions of textual transfer and adaptation of text to film. It is however, much more interdisciplinary, and is not simply a case of transferring content from one medium to another. This collection furthers the research into exactly what the act of adaptation involves and whether it differs from other acts of textual rewriting. In addition, the 'cultural turn' in translation studies has prompted many scholars to consider adaptation as a form of inter-semiotic translation. But what does this mean, and how can we best theorize it? What are the semiotic systems that underlie translation and adaptation? Containing theoretical chapters and personal accounts of actual adaptions and translations, this is an original contribution to translation and adaptation studies which will appeal to researchers and graduate students.

Book Broadening Horizons

Download or read book Broadening Horizons written by Wanda Thomas Bernard and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the remit of social work professionals is, in general, locality-based, social work has a long tradition of concern about international issues. Broadening Horizons provides an engaging and original contribution to the debate on how to tackle social work problems on a global scale. Filling both a theoretical and a practice gap in the literature, the book discusses the experiences of academics, practitioners and students involved in international exchanges in social work. It draws on a major EU-Canadian exchange project as well as separate projects in countries including South Africa, the USA, China and Australia. The contributors highlight the opportunities and barriers that shaped their experience and give guidance on how to deal with both the practicalities and aspirations of living and working across borders. This book will thus be invaluable both to readers interested in the meaning and realities of international social work and to those hoping to embark on an exchange programme themselves.
