Book Dynamics of Gas Surface Interactions

Download or read book Dynamics of Gas Surface Interactions written by Ricardo Diez Muino and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-26 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a representative survey of the state of the art of research on gas-surface interactions. It provides an overview of the current understanding of gas surface dynamics and, in particular, of the reactive and non-reactive processes of atoms and small molecules at surfaces. Leading scientists in the field, both from the theoretical and the experimental sides, write in this book about their most recent advances. Surface science grew as an interdisciplinary research area over the last decades, mostly because of new experimental technologies (ultra-high vacuum, for instance), as well as because of a novel paradigm, the ‘surface science’ approach. The book describes the second transformation which is now taking place pushed by the availability of powerful quantum-mechanical theoretical methods implemented numerically. In the book, experiment and theory progress hand in hand with an unprecedented degree of accuracy and control. The book presents how modern surface science targets the atomic-level understanding of physical and chemical processes at surfaces, with particular emphasis on dynamical aspects. This book is a reference in the field.

Book Quantum Theory of Gas Surface Interactions

Download or read book Quantum Theory of Gas Surface Interactions written by Edmund J. Drauglis and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this research program is to develop a better understanding of how gases at thermal energies interact with metallic surfaces. Such an understanding should not only help to explain a large body of data obtained in experimental investigations on the fundamental properties of surfaces but may also provide a useful computational tool for practical applications such as the computations of drag coefficients and heat exchange parameters of high-altitude, high-speed aircraft. A formalism was developed to permit calculations of energy and momentum exchange probabilities for gases impinging on bare metallic surfaces. A mixed classical and quantum-mechanical approach was used and the basic technique involved the application of two-step time-dependent perturbation theory. The calculation resulted in an expression for the probability of energy transfer which included all multiphonon events.

Book Physics On Ultracold Quantum Gases

Download or read book Physics On Ultracold Quantum Gases written by Yongjian Han and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-11-16 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book derives from the content of graduate courses on cold atomic gases, taught at the Renmin University of China and at the University of Science and Technology of China. It provides a brief review on the history and current research frontiers in the field of ultracold atomic gases, as well as basic theoretical description of few- and many-body physics in the system. Starting from the basics such as atomic structure, atom-light interaction, laser cooling and trapping, the book then moves on to focus on the treatment of ultracold Fermi gases, before turning to topics in quantum simulation using cold atoms in optical lattices. The book would be ideal not only for professionals and researchers, but also for familiarizing junior graduate students with the subject and aiding them in their preparation for future study and research in the field.

Book Interaction of Atoms and Molecules with Solid Surfaces

Download or read book Interaction of Atoms and Molecules with Solid Surfaces written by V. Bortolani and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 693 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is considerable interest, both fundamental and technological, in the way atoms and molecules interact with solid surfaces. Thus the description of heterogeneous catalysis and other surface reactions requires a detailed understand ing of molecule-surface interactions. The primary aim of this volume is to provide fairly broad coverage of atoms and molecules in interaction with a variety of solid surfaces at a level suitable for graduate students and research workers in condensed matter physics, chemical physics, and materials science. The book is intended for experimental workers with interests in basic theory and concepts and had its origins in a Spring College held at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Miramare, Trieste. Valuable background reading can be found in the graduate-Ievel introduction to the physics of solid surfaces by ZangwilI(1) and in the earlier works by Garcia Moliner and F1ores(2) and Somorjai.(3) For specifically molecule-surface interac tions, additional background can be found in Rhodin and Ertl(4) and March.(S) V. Book Dynamics of Gas Surface Scattering

Download or read book Dynamics of Gas Surface Scattering written by Frank O. Goodman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamics of Gas-Surface Scattering deals with the dynamics of scattering as inferred from known properties of gases and solids. This book discusses measurements of spatial distributions of scattered atomic and molecular streams, and of the energy and momentum which gas particles exchange at solid surfaces. It also considers two regimes of scattering, both of which are associated with a lower range of incident gas energies: the thermal and structure scattering regimes. Comprised of 10 chapters, this book opens with a brief historical overview of the early experiments that investigated the dynamics of scattering of gases by surfaces. The discussion then turns to some elements of the kinetic theory of gases; intermodular potentials and interaction regimes; and classical-mechanical lattice models used in gas-surface scattering theory. The applications of molecular beams to the study of gas-surface scattering phenomena are also described. The remaining chapters focus on experiments and theories on scattering of molecular streams by surfaces of solids, with emphasis on thermal and structure regimes of inelastic scattering; quantum theory of gas-surface scattering; and quantum mechanical scattering phenomena. This text concludes with an analysis of energy exchange processes that may occur when a solid surface is completely immersed in a still gas. This monograph will be a valuable resource for students and practitioners of physics, chemistry, and applied mathematics.

Book The Transfer of Molecular Energies by Collision Recent Quantum Treatments

Download or read book The Transfer of Molecular Energies by Collision Recent Quantum Treatments written by F. A. Gianturco and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I I These Lecture Notes are intended as an introduction to the theoretical formulation and computational aspects of the molecular energy transfer processes which take place in an increasingly sophisticated range of molecular scattering experiments. They are directed to chemistry graduate students and emphasize the quantum mechanical approach, with little or no attention to classical and semi classical treatments or to formal presentations. Several Sections of the first Chapters are based on lectures given at the Graduate School of Physics of the University of Genoa a few years ago and I thank the students for their sense of duty in following to the end all those no tation-filled blackboards and transparencies. The kind patience of my wife Carolyn in reading the whole manuscript and improving its form is gratefully acknowledged. Franco A. Book Interaction of Gases with Surfaces

Download or read book Interaction of Gases with Surfaces written by Alexander V. Bogdanov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-11 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interface phenomena are most fascinating because of the mixing of different scales and the interference of diverse physical processes. This makes it necessary to use different levels of description: microscopic, kinetic, and gas-dynamical. A unified quasiclassical approach is used to answer practical questions dealing with inelastic gas-surface scattering, the kinetics of adsorption layers, the evolution of inhomogeneities and defects at the surface, the Knudsen layer, the development of boundary conditions on the kinetic and gas-dynamical levels, the determination of exchange and slip coefficients, and so on.
