Book Conformational Analysis

Download or read book Conformational Analysis written by G Chiurdoglu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conformational Analysis: Scope and Present Limitations contains the proceedings of the Brussels International Symposium on Conformational Analysis held in Brussels, Belgium, in September 1969. The papers focus on the theoretical aspects and applications of conformational analysis, such as those concerning the aliphatic and especially the cyclic series. Topics covered include the geometry of five-membered rings; conformational transmission in steroids; conformational aspects of N-quaternization; and applications of nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry in conformational studies of cyclohexane derivatives. This book is comprised of 20 chapters and begins with a discussion on the conformational aspects of some five-membered ring compounds based mainly on observed (diffraction methods) and calculated torsional angles. The reader is then introduced to nuclear magnetic resonance studies of the conformations and conformational barriers in cyclic molecules; conformational studies of six-membered heterocycles; conformational transmission in steroids; and solvolytic cyclizations involving double bonds. The remaining chapters explore the conformational analysis of methylcyclohexane, cyclohexane systems, and carbonium ions; conformations of membrane-active cyclodepsipeptides; energetics of isomeric transition states and competitive reaction pathways in conformational analysis; and conformational aspects of the reaction of the 1-methylcyclodecane-l,6-diols with acid. This monograph will be of interest to organic chemists.

Book Basic Concepts in Organic Stereochemistry

Download or read book Basic Concepts in Organic Stereochemistry written by Sunil Kumar Talapatra and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses essential stereochemical concepts associated with organic molecules (natural or synthetic), as reflected in the course of their many reactions, their mechanisms, their asymmetric synthesis, biosynthesis, and biological activities. This treatise provides useful insights and understanding of the chiral/achiral designations (nomenclatures), the stereochemical features, and related properties of the natural and synthetic products. Without having an adequate knowledge of stereochemical concepts, it will not be possible to understand and appreciate the stereochemistry of natural or synthetic products. Thus, essential static and dynamic aspects of stereochemistry with sufficient illustrative examples along with discussions are presented. The structure of the monograph allows for easy selection of separate topics for reading and teaching. This book will also provide an idea of basic stereochemical concepts, as applied to organic molecules in general as well as to organic ligands in coordination complexes, and will, therefore, be valuable resources to teachers and students of advanced undergraduates and post-graduates, researchers, and professionals.

Book Quantitative Structure Activity Relationships of Drugs

Download or read book Quantitative Structure Activity Relationships of Drugs written by John Topliss and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Medicinal Chemistry, Volume 19: Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships of Drugs is a critical review of the applications of various quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) methodologies in different drug therapeutic areas and discusses the results in terms of their contribution to medicinal chemistry. After briefly describing the developments in QSAR research, this 12-chapter volume goes on discussing the contributions of QSAR methodology in elucidating drug action and rational development of drugs against bacterial, fungal, viral, and other parasitic infections of man. Other chapters explore the mode of action and QSAR of antitumor, cardiovascular, antiallergic, antiulcer, antiarthritic, and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAID) agents. The discussion then shifts to the pharmacologic effects and QSAR analysis of central nervous system agents, steroids, and other hormones. A chapter examines the major chemicals affecting insects and mites, with particular emphasis on the parameters of binding correlation and reactivity for insect and mite enzymes. The concluding chapters cover the limitations of the QSAR approach in the quantitative treatment of drug absorption, distribution, and metabolism. This volume is of great value to medicinal chemists, scientists, and researchers.

Book Intrinsically Disordered Proteins Studied by NMR Spectroscopy

Download or read book Intrinsically Disordered Proteins Studied by NMR Spectroscopy written by Isabella C. Felli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-19 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the paradigm-shifting phenomenon of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) and hybrid proteins containing ordered domains and functional IDP regions (IDPRs). The properties of IDPs and IDPRs are highly complementary to those deriving from the presence of a unique and well-defined three-dimensional fold. Ignored for a long time in high-resolution studies of proteins, intrinsic protein disorder is now recognized as one of the key features for a large variety of cellular functions, where structural flexibility presents a functional advantage in terms of binding plasticity and promiscuity and this volume explores this exciting new research. Recent progress in the field has radically changed our perspective to study IDPs through NMR: increasingly complex IDPs can now be characterized, a wide range of observables can be determined reporting on the structural and dynamic properties, computational methods to describe the structure and dynamics are in continuous development and IDPs can be studied in environments as complex as whole cells. This volume communicates the new exciting possibilities offered by NMR and presents open questions to foster further developments. Intrinsically Disordered Proteins Studied by NMR Spectroscopy provides a snapshot to researchers entering the field as well as providing a current overview for more experienced scientists in related areas.
