Download or read book Entrepreneurship Education and Entrepreneurial Behaviour written by Ikandilo Kushoka and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2013-07-10 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, , course: Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, language: English, abstract: This study examined whether entrepreneurship education offered in higher learning institutions in Tanzania trigger the adoption of an entrepreneurial behaviour. The aim of the study is to provide the understanding on why there is low participation of female with undergraduate degree in entrepreneurial activities. Building on the Theory of Planned Behaviour, various factors influencing entrepreneurial intention were tested. Specifically, the factors which influence entrepreneurial intention include: curricula, teaching methods, family back ground and institutional environment. Longitudinal research design was used and data was collected from 188 female students from the Institute of Accountancy Arusha and Kampala International University, Dar es Salaam College. Various techniques such as descriptive statistics, T-Test, Chi-Square were used to analyse the data. Basing on responses, the research revealed that entrepreneurship education has a positive effect on students’ personal attitude and perceived behavioral control of students on the intention to become an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship curricula, teaching methods and environmental conditions of the institutions do influence the entrepreneurial intentions of students to become entrepreneurs in the future. Specifically, Kampala International University students were more inspired (100%) to be entrepreneurs in the future by entrepreneurship course contents and entrepreneurship teaching methods than the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (77%). It is recommended that educators continuously improve their teaching methods and teaching styles, in order to accomplish this, they must assess the effectiveness of the teaching approaches; And if they wants to encourage students to be entrepreneurs, then they have to adopt experiential approaches rather than stick to traditional lecturing.

Book Perceived Learning Outcomes in Entrepreneurship Education

Download or read book Perceived Learning Outcomes in Entrepreneurship Education written by Ulla Hytti and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper aims to address the impact of a person's motivation to study entrepreneurship on their subsequent levels of performance in terms of the generation of business ideas, while taking into account the effect of student team behaviour. The paper hypothesises that both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation as well as team behaviour influence the learning outcome and that team behaviour moderates the relationship between motivation and learning outcomes. A survey was used to generate data. A total of 117 students, who participated in pre-programme, and post-programme surveys, provided the sample data. First, explorative factor analyses were employed to examine the latent variables. Second, hierarchical lineal regression analyses were carried out to test the proposed hypotheses. Results show that intrinsic motivation has a negative effect on the learning outcome while extrinsic motivation had a positive one. However, the team (and in particular the resources that become available) positively moderates the relationship between the intrinsic motivation and the outcomes.

Book Exploring Faculty Members Perceptions of Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Education

Download or read book Exploring Faculty Members Perceptions of Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Education written by Mona Anita Kristiansen Olsen and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the United States, there is an increasing focus to create programmatic initiatives that encourage entrepreneurship in order to aid in economic recovery. While seeking funding opportunities, institutions of higher education must determine strategies to be innovative within the university. Administrators want to create practical curricula that will encourage the student body to engage specifically in entrepreneurial activities that will create economic impact post-graduation. Administrators designing entrepreneurship programs do not have access to studies that share faculty perspectives on the growing discipline of entrepreneurship. Faculty members are key stakeholders in the evolution of entrepreneurship education; they are the lynchpin between the professional and the academic domains. The purpose of this research was to explore faculty members' perceptions of undergraduate entrepreneurship education. The research generated a working theory to inform administrators about faculty perspectives when designing undergraduate entrepreneurship programs. This working theory calls upon administrators to reveal the value of entrepreneurship and engage students when defining and designing an undergraduate entrepreneurship curriculum. Using a qualitative grounded theory design, the research consisted of a two-phase data collection process that ran from August to December 2012 and consisted of a 10 minute web-based free write activity and a semi-structured phone interview that averaged 45 minutes per participant. The participants were faculty members from 25 universities listed in Entrepreneur.com's 2011 ranking of top undergraduate entrepreneurship programs in the United States. The research identified faculty perspectives on the purpose of entrepreneurship education including: (a) revealing the value of entrepreneurship; (b) encouraging economic development; (c) validating the entrepreneurial lifestyle; (d) explaining the myth of entrepreneurism; (e) articulating how to identify and exploit opportunity; and (f) linking creative and predictive logic. The research revealed how faculty members perceived the connection of theory to practice in their own instruction by (a) assuring relevancy; (b) nurturing reflection; and (c) driving outreach. Finally, the research documented six future priorities for the faculty members in their own teaching: (a) encouraging peer-evaluation; (b) nurturing reflection; (c) guiding experiential learning; (d) adapting to students; (e) generating networks; and (f) embracing new content.

Book Students Perceptions of Entrepreneurship at a Historically Black University in Central Mississippi

Download or read book Students Perceptions of Entrepreneurship at a Historically Black University in Central Mississippi written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine students' perceptions of entrepreneurship at a historically black university in central Mississippi. The study examined five areas of students' perceptions: entrepreneurship, an entrepreneur, entrepreneurial opportunities, entrepreneurship education, and entrepreneurship and technology, and demographic characteristics (i.e., age, sex, academic unit, work status, first generation to attend college, and first in immediate family to attend college). The research design for this study was cross-sectional and descriptive. A 50-item survey was used to collect the data. The research used descriptive statistics, frequencies, and percentages to describe the data. An independent t-test and the ANOVA were used to address the five research questions. When significant statistical differences were reported, a multiple comparison post hoc test (Tukey's Honestly Significant Difference test [HSD]) was computed to determine where the differences occurred between groups. All data analyses were performed at a .05 significance level. The population for this study was 425 students enrolled in classes in the College of Business and School of Engineering. A total of 351 student surveys were analyzed and used in the study. Findings in this study indicated that age and work status impact how students' perceive entrepreneurship. Also, students' academic unit impacts how they perceive an entrepreneur. Additionally, students' generation first to attend college plays a role in their perceptions of entrepreneurial opportunities. Further findings revealed that students from different academic units have similar perceptions of entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurship and technology. Also, students' work status plays a role in their perceptions of entrepreneurship education. Based on the findings in this study, it was recommended that future research should be conducted to address factors contributable to students' perceptions of entrepreneurship based on age and work status. Further research should also address faculty perceptions of entrepreneurship and the educational process. Research should be undertaken to replicate this study in other academic units at the university.

Book Handbook of Research on Student Engagement

Download or read book Handbook of Research on Student Engagement written by Sandra L. Christenson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-23 with total page 839 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than two decades, the concept of student engagement has grown from simple attention in class to a construct comprised of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral components that embody and further develop motivation for learning. Similarly, the goals of student engagement have evolved from dropout prevention to improved outcomes for lifelong learning. This robust expansion has led to numerous lines of research across disciplines and are brought together clearly and comprehensively in the Handbook of Research on Student Engagement. The Handbook guides readers through the field’s rich history, sorts out its component constructs, and identifies knowledge gaps to be filled by future research. Grounding data in real-world learning situations, contributors analyze indicators and facilitators of student engagement, link engagement to motivation, and gauge the impact of family, peers, and teachers on engagement in elementary and secondary grades. Findings on the effectiveness of classroom interventions are discussed in detail. And because assessing engagement is still a relatively new endeavor, chapters on measurement methods and issues round out this important resource. Topical areas addressed in the Handbook include: Engagement across developmental stages. Self-efficacy in the engaged learner. Parental and social influences on engagement and achievement motivation. The engaging nature of teaching for competency development. The relationship between engagement and high-risk behavior in adolescents. Comparing methods for measuring student engagement. An essential guide to the expanding knowledge base, the Handbook of Research on Student Engagement serves as a valuable resource for researchers, scientist-practitioners, and graduate students in such varied fields as clinical child and school psychology, educational psychology, public health, teaching and teacher education, social work, and educational policy.

Download or read book Entrepreneurs written by Bill Bolton and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2000 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all know an entrepreneur when we see one. This ground-breaking book reviews more than a hundred entrepreneurs from all walks of life and backgrounds, and sets their stories within a rigorous analytical framework, in order to give a critical insight into: * What entrepreneurs do and achieve * How they go about it * How they could be better supported The key point though is whether there are more people "out there" with the potential to be successful entrepreneurs, and, if so, how they might be identified and fostered. This book opens up this subject using for the first time the themes of talent, temperament and technique, which, in the correct mix, produce outstanding entrepreneurs. Using the ideas presented, it should be possible to tap more effectively the well of entrepreneurial talent that the authors identify. The release of this entrepreneurial talent could transform the numerous programmes for promoting business start-up and growth. It is the missing ingredient in many of these initiatives. Entrepreneurs: Talent, Temperament, Technique is therefore ideal for both students and those with a non-academic background who have a keen interest in business start-up and growth. Case studies include: James Dyson, Charles Dunstone (CarPhone Warehouse), Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, Brian Souter (Stagecoach), Archie Norman (Asda), Paul Sykes, Steve Jobs (Apple), Warren Buffet, David Rhodes (Filtronic), Ricardo Semler, Elliott Tepper (Betel), Julian Richer, Walt Disney, Cameron Mackintosh, Jeff Bezos (Amazon.com), Herb Kelleher (SouthWest Air), Bernie Ecclestone, Mark McCormack, John de Lorean, Mozart and Al Capone. Identifies the range of intrapreneurship and entrepreneurship segments Gives a framework to running successful entrepreneurship programmes or accessing your own capabilities Contains a readable introduction with valuable case studies for specialist entrepreneurship and SME courses
