Book Quality Assurance in Construction

Download or read book Quality Assurance in Construction written by Brian Thorpe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for quality assurance in construction is now widely accepted. As a result, pressure is currently being applied to contractors and those offering professional services to demonstrate QA capability prior to commission. This book, written by experts in the field of quality management, shows how construction companies can effectively apply QA within their own organization. It pinpoints the real benefits to be gained from developing well-structured systems and offers practical guidance on implementation techniques. Inevitably, quality management standards play an important role in helping to define the requirements of any QA system. With this in mind the authors provide a detailed analysis of ISO 9000 - 1994 and its implementation. The text is complemented by numerous diagrams and examples and is essential reading for all construction professionals concerned with quality.

Book Improving Concrete Quality

Download or read book Improving Concrete Quality written by Karthikeyan H Obla and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2014-06-25 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Improve the Quality of Concrete, Improve the Quality of Construction Quality measurement is not prevalent in the concrete industry and quality investment is not seen as potentially generating a positive return. Improving Concrete Quality examines how and why concrete quality should be measured, and includes instruction on developing specifications with the aim of improving concrete quality. Reduce Concrete Variability: Reduce Costs and Increase Volume The first part of the book considers the tangible and intangible benefits of improved quality. The later chapters explore concrete strength variability in detail. It provides a greater grasp of the variation in concrete, as well as a deeper understanding of how material variability affects concrete performance. The author discusses the components of variability (material, manufacturing, testing) and provides steps to measuring and reducing variability to improve the quality of concrete. The text also contains a chapter on data analysis for quality monitoring and test results. Come Away with Practices and Tools That Can Be Applied Immediately: Provides techniques and how specifications can improve concrete quality Offers a clear understanding of the link between the materials (cement, SCM, aggregate, water, air), manufacturing, testing variability, and concrete quality Includes information on analyzing test data to improve quality Improving Concrete Quality quantifies the benefits of improved quality, and introduces novel ways of measuring concrete quality. This text is an ideal resource for quality personnel in the concrete industry. It also benefits architects, engineers, contractors, and researchers.

Book Project Quality Management

Download or read book Project Quality Management written by Sui Pheng Low and published by Springer Science & Business. This book was released on 2014-04-29 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents the development of the Construction Quality Assessment System (CONQUAS), Singapore’s de facto quality performance measurement system, explains the application of the Quality Management System (QMS) to manage CONQUAS and identifies 33 critical success factors (CSFs) for achieving high CONQUAS scores. Through CONQUAS, the reader benefits from understanding how the Singapore government developed and implemented the first objective system for measuring what many building professionals have perceived to be elusive quality standards in the construction industry. The book presents both the theoretical concepts as well as the practical aspects to achieving strategic Project Quality Management that is anchored on the CSFs to building best practices. To realistically reflect the practical aspects and challenging issues faced by stakeholders in the construction industry, questionnaire surveys were conducted with building professionals to distinguish the importance level and extent of adoption of the 33 CSFs (identified from a comprehensive review of the extant literature) in influencing and affecting the achievement of high CONQUAS scores. These were further anchored by in-depth interviews with quality experts in the Singapore construction industry to provide a better understanding of issues relating to strategic Project Quality Management. Collectively, the empirical findings collated from the building professionals suggest that while the CSFs identified are known tenets of quality, these were still not being followed in their totality. A further case study was conducted through a formal set of in-depth interviews with the quality assurance team of a construction company who has direct involvement before, during and after their tremendous improvements in the CONQUAS scores attained. The strength of this book therefore represents a true account and reflections of real-life practices and experiences in the construction industry for contractors, quality managers and policy-makers to learn from. Although the context of this book relates to the Singapore experience, the lessons and recommendations are equally relevant and applicable to the global construction industry in both the developing and developed countries whose stakeholders (in both the public and private sectors) wish to understand how CONQUAS works, and how the CSFs identified can likewise be implemented for strategic Project Quality Management to building best practices. The book is therefore of interests to researchers, academia and practitioners in the construction industry as well as in other sectors of the economy (in Singapore and other countries) where learning points may be used for enhancing project quality management for buildings.
