Book Digital Communications with Emphasis on Data Modems

Download or read book Digital Communications with Emphasis on Data Modems written by Richard W. Middlestead and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-03-07 with total page 828 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book uses a practical approach in the application of theoretical concepts to digital communications in the design of software defined radio modems. This book discusses the design, implementation and performance verification of waveforms and algorithms appropriate for digital data modulation and demodulation in modern communication systems. Using a building-block approach, the author provides an introductory to the advanced understanding of acquisition and data detection using source and executable simulation code to validate the communication system performance with respect to theory and design specifications. The author focuses on theoretical analysis, algorithm design, firmware and software designs and subsystem and system testing. This book treats system designs with a variety of channel characteristics from very low to optical frequencies. This book offers system analysis and subsystem implementation options for acquisition and data detection appropriate to the channel conditions and system specifications, and provides test methods for demonstrating system performance. This book also: Outlines fundamental system requirements and related analysis that must be established prior to a detailed subsystem design Includes many examples that highlight various analytical solutions and case studies that characterize various system performance measures Discusses various aspects of atmospheric propagation using the spherical 4/3 effective earth radius model Examines Ionospheric propagation and uses the Rayleigh fading channel to evaluate link performance using several robust waveform modulations Contains end-of-chapter problems, allowing the reader to further engage with the text Digital Communications with Emphasis on Data Modems is a great resource for communication-system and digital signal processing engineers and students looking for in-depth theory as well as practical implementations.

Book Quadrature Clock Modulation Versus Binary and Quadrature Phase Shift Keying in the Presence of Intersymbol Interference

Download or read book Quadrature Clock Modulation Versus Binary and Quadrature Phase Shift Keying in the Presence of Intersymbol Interference written by Gary A. White and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quadrature Clock Modulation (QCM) is a binary phase shift keying (BPSK) technique in which alternate bits are transmitted orthogonally. Compared to normal BPSK modulation, QCM improves the performance of a communication system which is limited by intersymbol interference (ISI). Compared to quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) for the same information rates, QCM is slightly inferior in data detection performance. The average carrier tracking capability of a QCM scheme is equal to that of BPSK for the same closed-loop bandwidth and time bandwidth product (BT) of the channel filter at a specified signal energy to noise ratio (Eb/No). The data detection performance for QCM, BPSK, and QPSK is analyzed by comparing the one-shot probability of error conditioned on a phase error as a function of Eb/No and BT for a specified channel filter. Carrier tracking performance for QCM and BPSK is analyzed by obtaining an average phase error variance for the linear model of a Costas loop.

Book Broadband Telecommunications Technologies and Management

Download or read book Broadband Telecommunications Technologies and Management written by Riaz Esmailzadeh and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-03-04 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this book is broadband telecommunications: both fixed (DSL, fiber) and wireless (1G-4G). It uniquely covers the broadband telecom field from technological, business and policy angles. The reader learns about the necessary technologies to a certain depth in order to be able to evaluate and analyse competing technologies. The student can then apply the results of the technology analysis to business (revenues and costs, market size, etc) to evaluate how successful a technology may be in the market place. Technology and business analyses lead to policy analysis and how government deal with rolling out of broadband networks; content (such as text, audio and video) delivered over them. Furthermore, how government may ensure a competitive and fair environment is maintained for service provision. The book is unique in its approach as it prepares the student to evaluate products from three different viewpoints of technology-business and policy. The book provides a unified vision for broadband communications, offering the required background as well a description of existing broadband systems, finishing with a business scenario. The book breaks new ground by discussing telecommunication technologies in a business and policy context.
