Finn "Shamrock" Adair Fifteen years ago, I became the President of the Emerald Isle MC . . . at the ripe age of twenty-two. It wasn't supposed to go down like that, though. Back then, I was young, enjoying life, and in love with the girl of my dreams. Faylinn O'Shea wasn't just any girl. She was my Vice President's daughter, my sister's best friend, and a club princess— but she was mine. And our rival club, the Devil's Den MC, did the only thing they could to hurt us— they took my Faylinn. I've run the club for the last fifteen years and spent every night searching for her. But, even though her brothers have accepted the probability of her death— I can't. So, I'll keep searching until I bring her home, dead or alive. I won't stop until we have a reunion or a funeral. My determination pays off, but the reunion isn't as epic as I'd hoped. Fifteen years as a prisoner was bound to change her, and Faylinn isn't the sweet, little love of my life anymore. Of course, she's still the love of my life. I just don't know if I'm still hers. I know one thing, though, I'm going to get revenge for her— for all the time she lost, and I'll become a savage worse than her captors to make sure they pay for what they did to my woman.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens to rural communities when their traditional economic base collapses? When new money comes in, who gets left behind? Pushed Out offers a rich portrait of Dover, Idaho, whose transformation from “thriving timber mill town” to “economically depressed small town” to “trendy second-home location” over the past four decades embodies the story and challenges of many other rural communities. Sociologist Ryanne Pilgeram explores the structural forces driving rural gentrification and examines how social and environmental inequality are written onto these landscapes. Based on in-depth interviews and archival data, she grounds this highly readable ethnography in a long view of the region that takes account of geological history, settler colonialism, and histories of power and exploitation within capitalism. Pilgeram’s analysis reveals the processes and mechanisms that make such communities vulnerable to gentrification and points the way to a radical justice that prioritizes the economic, social, and environmental sustainability necessary to restore these communities.

Book excerpt: This Air Force Colonel's Memoir is a collection of stories about people whom he has known, worked with and flew with during his span of 80 plus years. Growing up was an "on airport" experience among airport people, none of whom are ordinary. He enlisted in the Army during WWII at 18 and entered the Army Flying Training System. He relives with the reader numerous experiences in his early flying and living years in France and Germany. He met and married a wonderful young Lady and shares her experiences in becoming a Colonel's Lady. Colonel Hudlow volunteered into the new jet bomber program and also became a rated Navigator and Bombardier, an early qualification for flying the B-47. Reader will share his experiences as a junior officer and as he advances in rank and responsibility. He became expert in his profession and likely has as many flying hours in B-52 as anyone. He was introduced at SAC Headquarters as "The finest refueler in SAC". He devoted his Headquarters years to improving the B-52 fleet combat effectiveness, and crew safety. His first hand comments on the problems related to the Vietnam War are astute. He was very disappointed to have been denied command of a SAC Bombardment Wing. SAC wanted him to shepherd the B-1 airplane development. General Dougherty told him that he was the only officer in SAC with the experience and qualifications to bring the B-1 airplane into the SAC inventory. He tried to negotiate being a Wing Commander for a year then do the B-1 job. That was not acceptable so he elected to retire and enter the business world. He took a position with a major aircraft manufacturer and was very successful rising to Director of International Sales. He provides astute comparisons of commercial business versus the business of the military at levels from the Pentagon down. A fascinating read of success, Patriotism, devotion to duty, family and bonded professionals as a B-52 Combat Crew during the most dangerous era in our nation's history, The Cold War.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I’ve given my life to the club. And now, I might be the reason an empire falls. Finn “Shamrock” Adair A year of my life—stolen. The number of once-in-a-lifetime moments the Cartel took from me is immeasurable. I missed the birth of my children, their first milestones, their first words. I wasn’t here when two of my brothers claimed ol’ ladies. I missed most of my sister-in-law’s pregnancy and wasn’t there to help my sister through her miscarriage. Most of all, I wasn’t here to lay my mother to rest. Missing all those things, getting my life back, being the man they needed for a year, but I couldn’t be, is all that should matter to me. That should be my only focus now that I’m home and with my club again. But the Cartel destroyed that man that once ran this club. Used as a guinea pig to test their newest drugs, the only thing I want to do, the only thing I can seem to focus on, is getting high again. A year in a constant state of being out of my mind has left me as little more than a junkie. I want to do the right thing, but I can’t. The demons unleashed in me are too strong, have too great a hold now. My club isn’t going to give up, though, and for once, their greatest adversary isn’t an outside force—it’s me. I held this club together for so long, waited a lifetime to get my woman back, and now? I just might be the very reason it all crumbles to the ground.

Book excerpt: The Manly Art is another collection of writer Keith G. Laufenberg's short stories, only this time with the defining factor being that they all involve the sport of boxing. Having been in the sport himself, beginning at age 17, when he entered Marine Corps boot camp, and ending after seven years, fought as a professional, he is afforded a closer more intimate look into the boxers lives. In "Sonny Liston's Eyes," the reader is taken into the Underworld of the sport when a writer interviews an ex-mobster-who is dying of lung cancer-and claims to have killed Sonny Liston, as well as JFK and Martin Luthur King Jr. He tells an incredible story but backs it up by saying he has absolutely verifiable evidence that he will produce for the writer. In "Frankenstein" we see why a young amateur boxer should have picked boxing over football. He has little say in the matter though as his father and uncle have trained him his entire life for football and it, along with the other stories, will keep you glued to the page.
