Download or read book Punctured Torus Groups and 2 Bridge Knot Groups I written by Hirotaka Akiyoshi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-05-26 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is the first part of a work that provides a full account of Jorgensen's theory of punctured torus Kleinian groups and its generalization. It offers an elementary and self-contained description of Jorgensen's theory with a complete proof. Through various informative illustrations, readers are naturally led to an intuitive, synthetic grasp of the theory, which clarifies how a very simple fuchsian group evolves into complicated Kleinian groups.

Book Endoscopy for GSp 4 and the Cohomology of Siegel Modular Threefolds

Download or read book Endoscopy for GSp 4 and the Cohomology of Siegel Modular Threefolds written by Rainer Weissauer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-04-28 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume grew out of a series of preprints which were written and circulated - tween 1993 and 1994. Around the same time, related work was done independently by Harder [40] and Laumon [62]. In writing this text based on a revised version of these preprints that were widely distributed in summer 1995, I ?nally did not p- sue the original plan to completely reorganize the original preprints. After the long delay, one of the reasons was that an overview of the results is now available in [115]. Instead I tried to improve the presentation modestly, in particular by adding cross-references wherever I felt this was necessary. In addition, Chaps. 11 and 12 and Sects. 5. 1, 5. 4, and 5. 5 were added; these were written in 1998. I willgivea moredetailedoverviewofthecontentofthedifferentchaptersbelow. Before that I should mention that the two main results are the proof of Ramanujan’s conjecture for Siegel modular forms of genus 2 for forms which are not cuspidal representations associated with parabolic subgroups(CAP representations), and the study of the endoscopic lift for the group GSp(4). Both topics are formulated and proved in the ?rst ?ve chapters assuming the stabilization of the trace formula. All the remaining technical results, which are necessary to obtain the stabilized trace formula, are presented in the remaining chapters. Chapter 1 gathers results on the cohomology of Siegel modular threefolds that are used in later chapters, notably in Chap. 3. At the beginning of Chap.

Book Random Polymers

    Book Details:
  • Author : Frank den Hollander
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2009-04-09
  • ISBN : 3642003338
  • Pages : 271 pages

Download or read book Random Polymers written by Frank den Hollander and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-04-09 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymer chains that interact with themselves and/or with their environment are fascinating objects, displaying a range of interesting physical and chemical phenomena. The focus in this monograph is on the mathematical description of some of these phenomena, with particular emphasis on phase transitions as a function of interaction parameters, associated critical behavior and space-time scaling. Topics include: self-repellent polymers, self-attracting polymers, polymers interacting with interfaces, charged polymers, copolymers near linear or random selective interfaces, polymers interacting with random substrate and directed polymers in random environment. Different techniques are exposed, including the method of local times, large deviations, the lace expansion, generating functions, the method of excursions, ergodic theory, partial annealing estimates, coarse-graining techniques and martingales. Thus, this monograph offers a mathematical panorama of polymer chains, which even today holds plenty of challenges.

Book From Hahn Banach to Monotonicity

Download or read book From Hahn Banach to Monotonicity written by Stephen Simons and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-02-22 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of LNM 1693 aims to reduce questions on monotone multifunctions to questions on convex functions. However, rather than using a "big convexification" of the graph of the multifunction and the "minimax technique" for proving the existence of linear functionals satisfying certain conditions, the Fitzpatrick function is used. The journey begins with the Hahn-Banach theorem and culminates in a survey of current results on monotone multifunctions on a Banach space.

Book Representation Theory and Complex Analysis

Download or read book Representation Theory and Complex Analysis written by Michael Cowling and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-02-22 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six leading experts lecture on a wide spectrum of recent results on the subject of the title. They present a survey of various interactions between representation theory and harmonic analysis on semisimple groups and symmetric spaces, and recall the concept of amenability. They further illustrate how representation theory is related to quantum computing; and much more. Taken together, this volume provides both a solid reference and deep insights on current research activity.

Book Evolution Algebras and Their Applications

Download or read book Evolution Algebras and Their Applications written by Jianjun Paul Tian and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Behind genetics and Markov chains, there is an intrinsic algebraic structure. It is defined as a type of new algebra: as evolution algebra. This concept lies between algebras and dynamical systems. Algebraically, evolution algebras are non-associative Banach algebras; dynamically, they represent discrete dynamical systems. Evolution algebras have many connections with other mathematical fields including graph theory, group theory, stochastic processes, dynamical systems, knot theory, 3-manifolds, and the study of the Ihara-Selberg zeta function. In this volume the foundation of evolution algebra theory and applications in non-Mendelian genetics and Markov chains is developed, with pointers to some further research topics.

Book Weighted Littlewood Paley Theory and Exponential Square Integrability

Download or read book Weighted Littlewood Paley Theory and Exponential Square Integrability written by Michael Wilson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Littlewood-Paley theory is an essential tool of Fourier analysis, with applications and connections to PDEs, signal processing, and probability. It extends some of the benefits of orthogonality to situations where orthogonality doesn’t really make sense. It does so by letting us control certain oscillatory infinite series of functions in terms of infinite series of non-negative functions. Beginning in the 1980s, it was discovered that this control could be made much sharper than was previously suspected. The present book tries to give a gentle, well-motivated introduction to those discoveries, the methods behind them, their consequences, and some of their applications.

Book Probability and Real Trees

Download or read book Probability and Real Trees written by Steven N. Evans and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-09-26 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Random trees and tree-valued stochastic processes are of particular importance in many fields. Using the framework of abstract "tree-like" metric spaces and ideas from metric geometry, Evans and his collaborators have recently pioneered an approach to studying the asymptotic behavior of such objects when the number of vertices goes to infinity. This publication surveys the relevant mathematical background and present some selected applications of the theory.
