Book Pumpkintown Perils Trilogy

Download or read book Pumpkintown Perils Trilogy written by Aubrey Law and published by Aubrey Law. This book was released on 2021-04-03 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Murder, Magic, Mystery, & Myth. Welcome to Pumpkintown. Contains the entire Pumpkintown Perils trilogy (Volumes 1-3) in a convenient series box set! Pumpkintown Perils Volume 1: Terrible Trolls, Naughty Gnomes, & Homicidal Humans Living near a village of gnomes in the enchanted forest called Jagged Wood, Wanda Tempest owns a magic supply shop, practices witchcraft, drinks hard liquor, and does her best to keep peace with the local two-thousand pound Wood Trolls. She also happens to be a promising, if only part-time, Private Investigator. She’s talented, attractive, and has earned the respect and admiration of the equally talented, though far less striking, Pumpkintown Police Inspector Sam Shamrock, a tobacco-tainted, lascivious, and loud-mouthed leprechaun. Sam's crazy about Wanda… she’s crazy about her cat-food-hating whiskered companion, Jinxy. Join this formidable, if mismatched, crime-solving duo, as they tackle mysteries ranging from the suspiciously scandalous to the supernaturally strange. Tormented talking trees, naughty gnomes, terrible trolls, and homicidal humans will keep Wanda and Sam fighting for justice, and their very lives. Pumpkintown Perils Volume 2: Vicious Vampires, Poison Pumpkins, & Wicked Werewolves Vampires in Pumpkintown? Nobody has seen any of the damn bloodsuckers around for nearly a hundred years. But when a gorgeous gnome girl is found dead in a ditch near Nightshade Lake with vampire wounds deep in her neck, Wanda and Sam must discover the truth. It's also time for Pumpkintown's world-famous annual Pumpkin Festival but this year the food has been poisoned and there's also an anonymous assassin determined to kill every last leprechaun alive. As if all that wasn't enough, a mysterious white werewolf was seen stalking the Jagged Wood outside of Wanda's window while the local Wood Trolls are marching for war. There's a big bad moon rising over Pumpkintown and it's up to Wanda, Sam, Amber, Alice, and Jinxy to save the day. Pumpkintown Perils Volume 3: Grungy Goblins, Godlike Giants, & Magic Mushrooms The magical misadventures of wild witch Wanda Tempest and her younger twin sisters along with the legendary leprechaun Pumpkintown Police Inspector Sam Shamrock continue in the third volume of madhouse mysteries. Tenacious trolls, godlike giants, talking trees, and grungy goblins will keep Wanda and her team of crossbow-carrying gnomes busy from dusk until dawn. Volume 3 focuses on the suspenseful story of the wicked Wood Giant Brownbeard and Wanda's midnight to morning journey through the enchanted and jeopardous Jagged Wood. As always, Aunt Hazel and Jinxy make appearances to keep the fun times flowing. New magic, new enemies, and a new exciting experience in the world of Pumpkintown await!

She snaps at flies, howls at fire trucks, and chases squirrels - on all fours. She quits eating candy and starts eating meat - only meat. And the dog is now afraid of her when she lifts her lip and shows her teeth. What child hasn't fantasized about being an animal? And what parent hasn't exclaimed over the transformation in their child when picking him or her up from camp? Book Liberia South Carolina

Download or read book Liberia South Carolina written by John M. Coggeshall and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 2018-04-10 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2007, while researching mountain culture in upstate South Carolina, anthropologist John M. Coggeshall stumbled upon the small community of Liberia in the Blue Ridge foothills. There he met Mable Owens Clarke and her family, the remaining members of a small African American community still living on land obtained immediately after the Civil War. This intimate history tells the story of five generations of the Owens family and their friends and neighbors, chronicling their struggles through slavery, Reconstruction, the Jim Crow era, and the desegregation of the state. Through hours of interviews with Mable and her relatives, as well as friends and neighbors, Coggeshall presents an ethnographic history that allows members of a largely ignored community to speak and record their own history for the first time. This story sheds new light on the African American experience in Appalachia, and in it Coggeshall documents the community's 150-year history of resistance to white oppression, while offering a new way to understand the symbolic relationship between residents and the land they occupy, tying together family, memory, and narratives to explain this connection.

Book African American Life in South Carolina s Upper Piedmont 1780 1900

Download or read book African American Life in South Carolina s Upper Piedmont 1780 1900 written by W. J. Megginson and published by Univ of South Carolina Press. This book was released on 2022-08-03 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rich portrait of Black life in South Carolina's Upstate Encyclopedic in scope, yet intimate in detail, African American Life in South Carolina's Upper Piedmont, 1780–1900, delves into the richness of community life in a setting where Black residents were relatively few, notably disadvantaged, but remarkably cohesive. W. J. Megginson shifts the conventional study of African Americans in South Carolina from the much-examined Lowcountry to a part of the state that offered a quite different existence for people of color. In Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens counties—occupying the state's northwest corner—he finds an independent, brave, and stable subculture that persevered for more than a century in the face of political and economic inequities. Drawing on little-used state and county denominational records, privately held research materials, and sources available only in local repositories, Megginson brings to life African American society before, during, and after the Civil War. Orville Vernon Burton, Judge Matthew J. Perry Jr. Distinguished Professor of History at Clemson University and University Distinguished Teacher/Scholar Emeritus at the University of Illinois, provides a new foreword.
