Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) has been widely used for deposition of high {Tc} superconducting thin films, and has been approved as one of the best physical vapor techniques to prepare the films. The most important advantage of this technique is stoichiometric deposition, namely the films could be made with the same composition of the targets. Utilized PLD, not only thin films but also multilayers and superlattices of high {Tc} superconductors have been fabricated. In this paper, the performance of the technique will be reviewed, and the future will be speculated.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superconducting thin films have been deposited in-situ on several substrate materials using pulsed excimer laser deposition. The major accomplishments were in four separate areas: (1) We were the first to grow excellent quality YBa2Cu3O7 on Si and on silicon-on-sapphire. The quality of these films has enabled several applications and other studies to be realized. These include infrared detectors and superconducting metal-insulator-semiconductor structures, as well as flux motion studies. (2) We were the first to grow excellent quality YBCO on GaAs. This success allows superconductors to be combined with high-speed GaAs for future device applications. (3) We were the first to grow a-axis oriented YBCO films using monolayer buffers of PrO2. This structural orientation favors technical applications, such as, Josephson devices or tunnel junctions. (4) We were the first to observe an extreme sensitivity of T sub c to cool-down rate for epitaxial Fe-doped YBCO films. These results not only may yield information on the role of the Cu-O chains and planes in the superconductivity of this material but also may lead to procedures to increase the flux pinning.

Book High Tc Superconductor Thin Films

Download or read book High Tc Superconductor Thin Films written by L. Correra and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 908 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interdisciplinary research on superconducting oxides is the main focus of the contributions in this volume. Several aspects of the thin film field from fundamental properties to applications are examined. Interesting results for the Bi system are also reviewed. The 132 papers, including 8 invited, report mainly on the 1-2-3 system, indicating that the Y-Ba-Cu-O and related compounds are still the most intensively studied materials in this field. The volume attests to the significant progress that has been made in this field, as well as reporting on the challenging problems that still remain to be solved.

Book Applications of Laser Ablation

Download or read book Applications of Laser Ablation written by Dongfang Yang and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2016-12-21 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laser ablation refers to the phenomenon in which a low wavelength and short pulse (ns-fs) duration of laser beam irradiates the surface of a target to induce instant local vaporization of the target material generating a plasma plume consisting of photons, electrons, ions, atoms, molecules, clusters, and liquid or solid particles. This book covers various aspects of using laser ablation phenomenon for material processing including laser ablation applied for the deposition of thin films, for the synthesis of nanomaterials, and for the chemical compositional analysis and surface modification of materials. Through the 18 chapters written by experts from international scientific community, the reader will have access to the most recent research and development findings on laser ablation through original research studies and literature reviews.

Book Pulsed Laser Processing of High Temperature Superconducting Thin Films

Download or read book Pulsed Laser Processing of High Temperature Superconducting Thin Films written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systematic studies of the effects of pulsed laser deposition processing parameters on plume dynamics and resultant film properties have been performed. Plume angular distributions, cos{sup m}([theta]), were observed to be variable between 1> m> 10 depending on laser energy density and spot size. Under optimized conditions, epitaxial, superconducting thin films could be grown in-situ on a variety of single-crystal substrates. High quality, 200 nm thick films were obtained at deposition rates approaching 15 nm/sec. Additionally, the patterning of YBa2Cu3O{sub 7-x} thin films has been achieved by a process which combines thermal oxygen diffusion and laser annealing. This process is performed under relatively mild conditions which allows the structural integrity of the films to be preserved. 9 refs., 6 figs.

Book Laser Deposition and Laser Modification of High temperature Superconducting Thin Films

Download or read book Laser Deposition and Laser Modification of High temperature Superconducting Thin Films written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applications of high-temperature superconductors (HTSC) may require epitaxial films with {Tc}≥77 K, and J{sub c}≥106 A/cm2. In situ pulsed laser deposition (PLD) is suitable for fabrication of such films. We report parametric studies on the effect of laser and processing parameters on the crystallinity, epitaxy and electrical properties of laser-deposited HTSC thin films. In addition, several laser-based processes were used to modify the electrical properties ({Tc} and J{sub c}) of PLD thin films. A direct-write laser heating (1.06 [mu]m at ≈0.5 kW/cm2 for ≈5 min) process in an oxygen atmosphere at ≈590 Torr was shown to selectivity regenerate high-{Tc} material in microscopic domains from films that were partially deoxygenated. In separate work, electrical responses and crystallinity of HTSC films were measured as a function of excimer laser exposure using fluences in the range 20--150 mJ/cm2. The critical current and boundary layer could be modified with a high degree of accuracy. 17 refs., 4 figs.

Book Iron Based Superconducting Thin Films

Download or read book Iron Based Superconducting Thin Films written by Silvia Haindl and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-27 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a modern introduction to the growth, characterization, and physics of iron-based superconducting thin films. Iron pnictide and iron chalcogenide compounds have become intensively studied key materials in condensed matter physics due to their potential for high temperature superconductivity. With maximum critical temperatures of around 60 K, the new superconductors rank first after the celebrated cuprates, and the latest announcements on ultrathin films promise even more. Thin film synthesis of these superconductors began in 2008 immediately after their discovery, and this growing research area has seen remarkable progress up to the present day, especially with regard to the iron chalcogenides FeSe and FeSe1-xTex, the iron pnictide BaFe2-xCoxAs2 and iron-oxyarsenides. This essential volume provides comprehensive, state-of-the-art coverage of iron-based superconducting thin films in topical chapters with detailed information on thin film synthesis and growth, analytical film characterization, interfaces, and various aspects on physics and materials properties. Current efforts towards technological applications and functional films are outlined and discussed. The development and latest results for monolayer FeSe films are also presented. This book serves as a key reference for students, lecturers, industry engineers, and academic researchers who would like to gain an overview of this complex and growing research area.
