Book Proton Spin Polarizabilities from Polarized Compton Scattering

Download or read book Proton Spin Polarizabilities from Polarized Compton Scattering written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 15203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polarized Compton scattering off the proton is studied within the framework of subtracted dispersion relations for photon energies up to 300 MeV. As a guideline for forthcoming experiments, we focus the attention on the role of the proton's spin polarizabilities and investigate the most favorable conditions to extract them with a minimum of model dependence. We conclude that a complete separation of the four spin polarizabilities is possible, at photon energies between threshold and the $\Delta(1232)$ region, provided one can achieve polarization measurements with an accuracy of a few percent.

Book Measurement of the Generalized Polarizabilities of the Proton in Virtual Compton Scattering at Q2

Download or read book Measurement of the Generalized Polarizabilities of the Proton in Virtual Compton Scattering at Q2 written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Virtual Compton Scattering is studied at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility in the energy domain below pion threshold and in the Delta(1232) resonance region. The data analysis is based on the Dispersion Relation (DR) approach. The electric and magnetic Generalized Polarizabilities (GPs) of the proton and the structure functions Pll-Ptt/epsilon and Plt are determined at four-momentum transfer squared Q2=0.92 and 1.76 GeV2. The DR analysis is consistent with the low-energy expansion analysis. The world data set indicates that neither the electric nor magnetic GP follows a simple dipole form.

Book Measurement of the Generalized Polarizabilities of the Proton in Virtual Compton Scattering at Q2

Download or read book Measurement of the Generalized Polarizabilities of the Proton in Virtual Compton Scattering at Q2 written by and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report a Virtual Compton Scattering study of the proton at low CM energies. We have determined the structure functions P{sub LL} - P{sub TT}/[epsilon] and P{sub LT}, and the electric and magnetic Generalized Polarizabilities (GPs) [alpha]{sub E}(Q2) and [beta]{sub M}(Q2) at momentum transfer Q2 = 0.92 and 1.76 GeV2. The electric GP shows a strong fall-off with Q2, and its global behavior does not follow a simple dipole form. The magnetic GP shows a rise and then a fall-off; this can be interpreted as the dominance of a long-distance diamagnetic pion cloud at low Q2, compensated at higher Q2 by a paramagnetic contribution from [pi]N intermediate states.

Book Compton Scattering from the Proton Below Pion Threshold

Download or read book Compton Scattering from the Proton Below Pion Threshold written by Bruce Everett MacGibbon and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Compton scattering cross section on the proton was measured at laboratory angles of 90$spcirc$ and 135$spcirc$, using 70-100 MeV tagged photons, and simultaneously using 100-150 MeV untagged photons, in order to determine the electric and magnetic polarizabilities. The 135$spcirc$ cross section is sensitive to the difference of the electric and magnetic polarizabilities, $bar alpha - barbeta$, while the 90$spcirc$ cross section is sensitive to the electric polarizability $bar alpha$. Using the model independent sum rule constraint for $bar alpha$ + $bar beta$ and a model dependent dispersion relation calculation, the values for the polarizabilities extracted from the cross sections are:$$bar alpha = (12.5 pm 0.6 pm 0.8 pm 0.6) times 10sp{-4} fmsp3cr bar beta = (1.8 mp 0.6 mp 0.8 mp 0.6) times 10sp{-4} fmsp3$$where the errors shown are statistical, systematic, and model, respectively.

Book Gdh 2000 The Gerasimov drell hearn Sum Rule The Nucleon Spin Structure In The Resonance Region

Download or read book Gdh 2000 The Gerasimov drell hearn Sum Rule The Nucleon Spin Structure In The Resonance Region written by Dieter Drechsel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-02-05 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of spin in general, and of the nucleon spin structure in particular, has been full of surprises. For the past 25 years deep inelastic lepton scattering has been studied to determine the carriers of the nucleon spin. However, it was realized only recently that a full understanding of the nucleon spin will also require detailed information on the helicity structure in the resonance region, i.e. in the realm of nonperturbative QCD.This volume gives a status report on the spin structure in the nucleon resonance region, focusing on: new experimental results from SLAC and HERMES; a first glance at the JLab experiments to map out the spin structure functions at low and intermediate four-momentum transfers; the pioneering experiment at MAMI (Mainz) to determine the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn sum rule for real photons; and recent theoretical concepts and investigations to describe the spin structure in the frameworks of higher twist expansion, phenomenological models and chiral perturbation theory.

Book At The Frontier Of Particle Physics Handbook Of Qcd In 3 Vols

Download or read book At The Frontier Of Particle Physics Handbook Of Qcd In 3 Vols written by Misha Shifman and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-04-10 with total page 2196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of reviews covering all aspects of quantum chromodynamics as we know it today. The articles have been written by recognized experts in this field, in honor of the 75th birthday of Professor Boris Ioffe. Combining features of a handbook and a textbook, this is the most comprehensive source of information on the present status of QCD. It is intended for students as well as physicists — both theorists and experimentalists. Each review is self-contained and pedagogically structured, providing the general formulation of the problem, telling where it stands with respect to other issues and why it is interesting and important, presenting the history of the subject, qualitative insights, and so on. The first part of the book is historical in nature. It includes, among other articles, Boris Ioffe's and Yuri Orlov's memoirs on high energy physics in the 1950's, a note by B V Geshkenbein on Ioffe's career in particle physics, and an essay on the discovery of asymptotic freedom written by David Gross.

Book Polarization Transfer in Wide angle Compton Scattering and Single pion Photoproduction from the Proton

Download or read book Polarization Transfer in Wide angle Compton Scattering and Single pion Photoproduction from the Proton written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wide-angle exclusive Compton scattering and single-pion photoproduction from the proton have been investigated via measurement of the polarization transfer from a circularly polarized photon beam to the recoil proton. The WACS polarization transfer was analyzed at an incident photon energy of 3.7 GeV at a proton scattering angle of [theta]Pcm = 70°. The longitudinal transfer KLL, measured to be 0.645 ± 0.059 ± 0.048, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic, has the same sign as predicted for the reaction mechanism in which the photon interacts with a single quark carrying the spin of the proton. However, the observed value is ~3 times larger than predicted by the GPD-based calculations, which indicates a significant unknown contribution to the scattering amplitude.
