Book Properties of Jets in High E

Download or read book Properties of Jets in High E written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The properties of jets in high-E/sub tau/ events produced in pp collisions at .sqrt.s = 63 GeV have been studied at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings. The fragmentation of the jets is found to be similar to that of jets produced in ee− annihilation. The jets are wider than calculated from a constituent scattering model with no hard bremsstrahlung component. The charge correlations of positive and negative particles show differences consistent with expectation from valence-quark scattering. 11 references.

Book Jet and Underlying Event Properties as a Function of Charged particle Multiplicity in Proton proton Collisions at Sqrt s

Download or read book Jet and Underlying Event Properties as a Function of Charged particle Multiplicity in Proton proton Collisions at Sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Characteristics of multi-particle production in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV are studied as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity, N[ch]. The produced particles are separated into two classes: those belonging to jets and those belonging to the underlying event. Charged particles are measured with pseudorapidity abs(eta) 2.4 and transverse momentum pt 0.25 GeV. Jets are reconstructed from charged-particles only and required to have pt> 5 GeV. The distributions of jet pt, average pt of charged particles belonging to the underlying event or to jets, jet rates, and jet shapes are presented as functions of N[ch] and compared to the predictions of the PYTHIA and HERWIG event generators. Predictions without multi-parton interactions fail completely to describe the N[ch]-dependence observed in the data. For increasing N[ch], PYTHIA systematically predicts higher jet rates and harder pt spectra than seen in the data, whereas HERWIG shows the opposite trends. At the highest multiplicity, the data-model agreement is worse for most observables, indicating the need for further tuning and/or new model ingredients.

Book Jet Production Rates in Association with W and Z Bosons in Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Jet Production Rates in Association with W and Z Bosons in Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurements of jet production rates in association with W and Z bosons for jet transverse momenta above 30 GeV are reported, using a sample of proton-proton collision events recorded by CMS at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 inverse picobarns. The study includes the measurement of the normalized inclusive rates of jets sigma(V +>= n jets)/sigma(V), where V represents either a W or a Z. In addition, the ratio of W to Z cross sections and the W charge asymmetry as a function of the number of associated jets are measured. A test of Berends--Giele scaling at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV is also presented. The measurements provide a stringent test of perturbative-QCD calculations and are sensitive to the possible presence of new physics. The results are in agreement with the predictions of a simulation that uses explicit matrix element calculations for final states with jets.

Book Measurement of the Jet Mass in Highly Boosted T tbar Events from Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Measurement of the Jet Mass in Highly Boosted T tbar Events from Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first measurement of the jet mass m[jet] of top quark jets produced in t t-bar events from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV is reported for the jet with the largest transverse momentum pt in highly boosted hadronic top quark decays. The data sample, collected with the CMS detector, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns. The measurement is performed in the lepton+jets channel in which the products of the semileptonic decay t to bW with W to l nu where l is an electron or muon, are used to select t t-bar events with large Lorentz boosts. The products of the fully hadronic decay t to bW with W to q q'-bar are reconstructed using a single Cambridge-Aachen jet with distance parameter R=1.2, and pt>400 GeV. The t t-bar cross section as a function of m[jet] is unfolded at the particle level and is used to test the modelling of highly boosted top quark production. The peak position of the m[jet] distribution is sensitive to the top quark mass m[t], and the data are used to extract a value of m[t] to assess this sensitivity.

Book W and Z Boson Production with Jets and Inclusive Jet Production in P Pbar Collisions at Square Root S

Download or read book W and Z Boson Production with Jets and Inclusive Jet Production in P Pbar Collisions at Square Root S written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The production properties of jets produced in p{ovr p} collisions at (square root)s = 1.8 TeV have been measured using the CDF detector. The data are compared to predictions of leading order and next to leading order QCD predictions. Both inclusive jets and those produced in association with W and Z bosons are used for this analysis. In general, good agreement with QCD predictions is found except for very high E{sub t} inclusive jets. 10 refs., 7 figs., 2 tabs.

Book Correlations Between Jets and Charged Particles in PbPb and Pp Collisions at sqrt s mathrm NN

Download or read book Correlations Between Jets and Charged Particles in PbPb and Pp Collisions at sqrt s mathrm NN written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, the quark-gluon plasma is studied via medium-induced changes to correlations between jets and charged particles in PbPb collisions compared to pp reference data. This analysis uses data sets from PbPb and pp collisions with integrated luminosities of 166 inverse microbarns and 5.3 inverse picobarns, respectively, collected at $ \sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=2.76 $ TeV. The angular distributions of charged particles are studied as a function of relative pseudorapidity ([Delta][eta]) and relative azimuthal angle ([Delta][Phi]) with respect to reconstructed jet directions. Charged particles are correlated with all jets with transverse momentum (pT) above 120 GeV, and with the leading and subleading jets (the highest and second-highest in pT, respectively) in a selection of back-to-back dijet events. Modifications in PbPb data relative to pp reference data are characterized as a function of PbPb collision centrality and charged particle pT. A centrality-dependent excess of low-pT particles is present for all jets studied, and is most pronounced in the most central events. This excess of low-pT particles follows a Gaussian-like distribution around the jet axis, and extends to large relative angles of [Delta][eta] ≈ 1 and [Delta][Phi] ≈ 1.

Book Searches for Light and Heavy flavour Three jet Resonances in Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Searches for Light and Heavy flavour Three jet Resonances in Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for three-jet hadronic resonance production in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV has been conducted by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.4 inverse femtobarns. The search method is model independent, and events are selected that have high jet multiplicity and large values of jet transverse momenta. The signal models explored assume R-parity-violating supersymmetric gluino pair production and have final states with either only light-flavour jets or both light- and heavy-flavour jets. No significant deviation is found between the selected events and the expected standard model multijet and t t-bar quark background. For a gluino decaying into light-flavour jets, a lower limit of 650 GeV on the gluino mass is set at a 95% confidence level, and for a gluino decaying into one heavy- and two light-flavour jets, gluino masses between 200 and 835 GeV are, for the first time, likewise excluded.

Book Decomposing Transverse Momentum Balance Contributions for Quenched Jets in PbPb Collisions at sqrt s mathrm N mathrm N

Download or read book Decomposing Transverse Momentum Balance Contributions for Quenched Jets in PbPb Collisions at sqrt s mathrm N mathrm N written by and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interactions between jets and the quark-gluon plasma produced in heavy ion collisions are studied via the angular distributions of summed charged-particle transverse momenta (pT) with respect to both the leading and subleading jet axes in high-pt dijet events. The contributions of charged particles in different momentum ranges to the overall event pt balance are decomposed into short-range jet peaks and a long-range azimuthal asymmetry in charged-particle pT. The results for PbPb collisions are compared to those in pp collisions using data collected in 2011 and 2013, at collision energy $ \sqrt{s_{\mathrm{N}\;\mathrm{N}}}=2.76 $ TeV with integrated luminosities of 166 [mu]b-1 and 5.3 pb-1, respectively, by the CMS experiment at the LHC. Furthermore, measurements are presented as functions of PbPb collision centrality, charged-particle pt, relative azimuth, and radial distance from the jet axis for balanced and unbalanced dijets.
