Book A Uniform Representation of Single and Multi Stage Interconnection Networks Used in SIMD Machines

Download or read book A Uniform Representation of Single and Multi Stage Interconnection Networks Used in SIMD Machines written by D. K. Pradhan and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A switching theoretic framework for the study of interconnection networks is developed. An equivalence relationship between networks id defined. Single stage and multi-stage networks that are particularly useful for single instructions multiple data stream (SIMD) machines are studied. It is shown that the networks form two distinct equivalence classes under this definition of equivalence relationship. It is shown that any multi-stage network can be easily modified to realize the permutations that are admissable by any other network which is equivalent to it. (Author).

Book Interconnection Networks for Large scale Parallel Processing

Download or read book Interconnection Networks for Large scale Parallel Processing written by Howard Jay Siegel and published by McGraw-Hill Companies. This book was released on 1990 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parallel computer systems are being used to forecast the weather, make maps, simulate chemical reactions, control air traffic, guide missiles, provide robots with vision, and manage ballistic missile defense. A major problem in designing large-scale parallel systems is the construction of an interconnection network to provide interprocessor communications. This book presents the theoretical basis and a number of case studies that demonstrate how this work is done. This revision includes the most recent research in the field.

Book Comparative Analysis of Multistage Interconnection Networks

Download or read book Comparative Analysis of Multistage Interconnection Networks written by James T. Blake and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis provides a comparative analysis of various interconnection networks and multiprocessor systems. The Shuffle-Exchange multistage interconnection Network (SEN) and its variants are evaluated and compared. Comparison is based on reliability, composite measures of performance and reliability, and cost. Closed-form expressions for the computation of the available bandwidth for multiprocessor systems with a capability of graceful degradation are developed. The time dependent reliability of the SEN and three fault-tolerant schemes aimed at improving system reliability are examined. These schemes are the redundant network, the extra stage network, and the network augmented with intrastage links. Exact closed-form expressions for the time-dependent reliability of the N x N Shuffle-Exchange Network (SEN), the 8 x 8 and 16 x 16 SEN with an additional stage (SEN+), and the 4 X 4 and 8 X 8 Augmented SEN (ASEN) are derived. Upper and lower bounds useful for the analysis of larger SEN+ and ASEN networks are derived. Performability analysis of a complete multiprocessor system is conducted.

Book The Modeling Simulation and Comparison of Interconnection Networks for Parallel Processing

Download or read book The Modeling Simulation and Comparison of Interconnection Networks for Parallel Processing written by Richard A. Raines and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis extends existing modeling, analysis and comparison of interconnection networks for parallel processing systems. Simulation models are developed for the multistage cube network, the single stage cube network (hypercube), and the Illiac IV mesh-type network. They are then used to provide a comparison of three classes of interconnection networks which, until now, has not been performed. These models implemented using a commercially packaged simulation language provide for compact source code and ease of readability. The networks are modeled under a common set of operating assumptions and system environment. This allows for accurate comparisons of average network packet delays an memory requirements necessary to physically implement the chosen network at a given network operating load. It is concluded that, for the network sizes and operating conditions established, the multistage cube network performs better at a lower hardware cost than do the single stage cube and mesh networks. As a result, the designer of a parallel processing system is given additional insight for choosing an interconnection network which best suits the application needs. Keywords: Theses; Computer architecture; Crossbar switches; Circuit switching.

Book Design and Performance of Multistage Interconnection Networks

Download or read book Design and Performance of Multistage Interconnection Networks written by Rinkle Aggarwal and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the existing research literature a large number of regular MINs with their performance characteristics are available. However, there is relatively smaller number of irregular MINs. The present research work is an endeavour to study the importance and design of fault-tolerant MINs. It is with the use of various techniques based on high degree of parallelism, self-routing and modularity that three new dynamic irregular MINs have been proposed in order to improve their fault-tolerance, performance and reliability. The irregular networks have been considered because of their advantage of the shorter path length in comparison to their regular counterparts. The irregular dynamic MIN supports many redundant paths in the event of faults in order to dynamically reroute the data through a fault-free path and passes most of the permutations even under faults while improving the Mean-time to failure (MTTF).

Book Computer Performance and Reliability

Download or read book Computer Performance and Reliability written by Giuseppe G. Iazeolla and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1988 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The MCPR Workshop is an interdisciplinary computer science/mathematics event. It takes place once very fourth year and is aimed at evaluating the latest progress in modeling techniques in the area of performance and reliability engineering of computer/communication systems. Like its predecessor, the workshop from which these papers originate aimed at stimulating the exchange of ideas and experience among scientists active in mathematics research relevant to performance and reliability aspects of the design of computer and communication systems. The spirit of these exchanges and the main issues at stake are defined by an unceasing and difficult quest for models and techniques which are in the interests of mathematical tractability and accuracy, and at the same time allow for enough realism so as to yield results which are pertinent to system designers. This was reflected in the present program, which proposed a balanced and varied mixture of approximation techniques, of simulation methods and of analytical results on queueing, matrix and Petri net models.
