Book Properties and Applications of High Volume Fly Ash Concretes

Download or read book Properties and Applications of High Volume Fly Ash Concretes written by H. T. Cao and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural grade concretes with high volume of fly ash (HVFA) have been developed in Australia since 1991. These are concretes with fly ash making up to 50 percent by weight of the total binder. In this paper, mix design method and mix design data for HVFA concretes and their mechanical properties are given. The advantages of HVFA concretes in terms of improved volume stability and durability compared with portland cement concretes of equivalent 28-day compressive strength are discussed. The suitability of these type of concretes are highlighted with respect to their properties and construction demands. Example of applications in Australia and overseas are given.

Book Applications of High Volume Fly Ash Concretes

Download or read book Applications of High Volume Fly Ash Concretes written by Vute Sirivivatnanon and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the use of small proportion of fly ash in the binder of concrete is well understood and accepted in many countries, the technology relating to the use of high volume (40% by weight or more of binder) of fly ash in structural concrete is a more recent development. This paper discusses the development of high volume fly ash (HVFA) concrete in Australia and overseas with specific emphasis on its potential applications. Mix design method and data are described. It has been found that HVFA concrete can be designed within the constraints of the present Australian code of practice to give equivalent 28 day compressive strength to plain cement concrete. However, the volume stability and durability properties of HVFA concretes have been found to be significantly better than the equivalent plain cement concrete. With its inherent increased cohesiveness and long term properties, potential applications are identified and discussed with respect to the specific properties.

Book Best Practices Guide for High volume Fly Ash Concretes

Download or read book Best Practices Guide for High volume Fly Ash Concretes written by Dale P. Bentz and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-06-24 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A best practices guide is developed from a synthesis of recent research on high-volume fly ash (HVFA) concrete mixtures. These best practices can be applied by the concrete construction industry to achieve desired properties and to ensure the (high) performance of HVFA concrete mixtures in practice. As such, the report considers all aspects of HVFA concrete production, from the characterization of the starting materials, through mixture proportioning and curing options to achieve desired properties, to the in-place early-age and long-term performance of the concrete in its fresh and hardened states. Both mechanical and transport properties are considered in detail. Perspective is established based on a brief review of current practices being employed nationally. Each topical section is concluded with a practice-based set of recommendations for the design and construction community. The report is intended to serve as a valuable resource to these communities, providing both a research summary and a guide to practical steps that can be taken to achieve the optimum performance of these sustainable concrete mixtures.

Book Production Methods and Workability of Concrete

Download or read book Production Methods and Workability of Concrete written by P. J. M. Bartos and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-11-25 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practical production of ordinary and special, high performance concretes and their behaviour and properties when fresh are the main themes of this book. It derives from the International RILEM Conference held in Paisley, Scotland in June 1996, and represents the culmination of the work of two RILEM Technical Committees (145 WSM Workability of Special Mixes, and 150 ECM Efficiency of Concrete Mixers). Very significant advances have been made recently in the development of concrete with outstanding properties. Such advances in research must be matched by progress in the technology of concrete production. This book focuses on production methods and on workability and handling, two fundamental and closely linked stages of the concrete construction process. It has a strongly practical emphasis, with many contributions showing how to build effectively using the many high performance concretes which have progressed from research into construction in recent years. The main themes covered are: production mixers and mixing processes; production methods; sprayed and very dry precasting mixes; fibre reinforced concrete; flowing and superfluid mixes; rheology; test methods; mix design and models; special cements and concretes.

Book INCEPTION OF HIGH VOLUME FLY ASH WITH HYBRID FIBRE BASED CONCRETE A PERFORMER

Download or read book INCEPTION OF HIGH VOLUME FLY ASH WITH HYBRID FIBRE BASED CONCRETE A PERFORMER written by Dr. SS. Asadi & Dr. Vennam Swathi and published by Laxmi Book Publication. This book was released on 2024-01-20 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When infrastructure is built quickly, development occurs. Concrete is the go-to material for construction projects. Manufacturing cement is a significant contributor to atmospheric carbon dioxide. Using carbon-neutral materials like crimson mud or powdered snail shells can reduce cement's carbon dioxide emissions by half. As an adaptable alternative to traditional concrete, HVFA concrete has many uses. Long-lasting and useful in Plain Cement Concrete (PCC) projects, fly ash also enhances concrete's workability. The positive effects of fly ash on the environment, such as lower carbon dioxide emissions, are not new. Adding fly ash to concrete increases its strength and segregation, which reduces its price and makes it simpler to pump.

Book Biopolymers and Biotech Admixtures for Eco Efficient Construction Materials

Download or read book Biopolymers and Biotech Admixtures for Eco Efficient Construction Materials written by Fernando Pacheco-Torgal and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2016-01-11 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1930 more than 100,000 new chemical compounds have been developed and insufficient information exists on the health assessment of 95 percent of these chemicals in which a relevant percentage are used in construction products. For instance Portland cement concrete, the most used material on the Planet (10.000 million tons/year that in the next 40 years will increase around 100 %) currently used in around 15% of total concrete production contains chemicals used to modify their properties, either in the fresh or hardened state. Biopolymers are materials that are developed from natural resources. They reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. There is a worldwide demand to replace petroleum-based materials with renewable resources. Currently bio-admixtures represent just a small fraction of the chemical admixtures market (around 20%) but with environmental awareness for constituents in construction materials generally growing (the Construction Products Regulation is being enforced in Europe since 2013), the trend towards bio-admixtures is expected to continue. This book provides an updated state-of-the-art review on biopolymers and their influence and use as admixtures in the development of eco-efficient construction materials. Provides essential knowledge for researchers and producers working on the development of biopolymer-modified construction materials Discusses the various types of biopolymers currently available, their different production techniques, their use as bio-admixtures in concretes and mortars and applications in other areas of civil engineering such as soil stability, wood preservation, adhesives and coatings All contributions are made from leading researchers, who have intensive involvement in the design and use of biopolymers in construction materials
