Book Particle gamma and Particle particle Correlations in Nuclear Reactions Using Monte Carlo Hauser Feshback Model

Download or read book Particle gamma and Particle particle Correlations in Nuclear Reactions Using Monte Carlo Hauser Feshback Model written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monte Carlo simulations for particle and [gamma]-ray emissions from an excited nucleus based on the Hauser-Feshbach statistical theory are performed to obtain correlated information between emitted particles and [gamma]-rays. We calculate neutron induced reactions on 51V to demonstrate unique advantages of the Monte Carlo method. which are the correlated [gamma]-rays in the neutron radiative capture reaction, the neutron and [gamma]-ray correlation, and the particle-particle correlations at higher energies. It is shown that properties in nuclear reactions that are difficult to study with a deterministic method can be obtained with the Monte Carlo simulations.

  • Pages : 135 pages

Download or read book Fission Neutrons written by Nikolay Kornilov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-25 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although the fission of heavy nuclei was discovered over 75 years ago, many problems and questions still remain to be addressed and answered. The reader will be presented with an old, but persistent problem of this field: The contradiction between Prompt Fission Neutron (PFN) spectra measured with differential (microscopic) experiments and integral (macroscopic and benchmark) experiments (the Micro-Macro problem). The difference in average energy is rather small ~3% but it is stable and we cannot explain the difference due to experimental uncertainties. Can we measure the PFN spectrum with high accuracy? How may we compare results of different experiments to provide better accuracy? Are our traditional theoretical models correct? What can be done to solve the Micro-Macro problem in future? These questions are discussed in this monograph for the reader. The current work will be of interest to graduate students and researchers, particularly those working in nuclear and neutron physics.

Book excerpt: A multipurpose gamma ray and neutron Monte Carlo program for describing te emergent (backscattering or transmitted) characteristics of photons or neutrons by slab has been written. The program is set up to investigate gamma ray or neutron backscattering, absorption, and transmission in one, two, or three layers of different media. The information that may be obtained includes (1) the number albedo or transmitted, (2) the energy albedo or transmitted; and (3) the angular distribution of the emergent number, energy, or dose. Sample results are given for both incident gamma rays and neutrons. (Author).

Book The Analog Linear Interpolation Approach for Monte Carlo Simulation of Prompt Gamma Ray Neutron Activation Analysis

Download or read book The Analog Linear Interpolation Approach for Monte Carlo Simulation of Prompt Gamma Ray Neutron Activation Analysis written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Monte Carlo code (CEARPGA I) was developed to generate the elemental library spectra required for implementing the Monte Carlo Library Least-Squares algorithm for prompt gamma-ray neutron activation analysis (PGNAA). The existing big weight problem in which a few histories yield very large weights with very large variance has been investigated thoroughly. It has been found that the expected value splitting technique, a powerful variance reduction technique used in the code is the primary cause of this problem. Two Monte Carlo simulation approaches have been investigated to eliminate the big weight problem while still maintaining high efficiency. They are 1) score importance map with batch tracking and 2) analog linear interpolation. Both approaches were implemented separately in the corresponding Monte Carlo codes on the basis of CEARPGA I code and demonstrated to be feasible for solving the big weight problem. The analog linear interpolation approach was selected to incorporate into the new CEARPGA Monte Carlo code (CEARPGA II). A comparison of the results obtained by both CEAEPGA I and CEARPGA II codes as well as experimentally measured data shows that the big weight problem has been successfully eliminated, the accuracy of the simulation has improved greatly, and the simulated results agree very well with the measured data. In addition, some other important improvements have been made in the CEARPGA II to make it more accurate, efficient and powerful, including: 1) tracking pair production gamma rays, 2) incorporating neutron activation background spectra, 3) generating natural background spectra, 4) taking into account the non-linearity of NaI detectors, and 5) adopting a general geometry package.
