Book Our Knowledge of the Growth of Knowledge Routledge Revivals

Download or read book Our Knowledge of the Growth of Knowledge Routledge Revivals written by Peter Munz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-27 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Peter Munz, a former student of both Popper and Wittgenstein, begins his comparison of the two great twentieth-century philosophers, by explaining that since the demise of positivism there have emerged, broadly speaking, two philosophical options: Wittgenstein, with the absolute relativism of his theory that meaning is a function of language games and that social configurations are determinants of knowledge; and Popper’s evolutionary epistemology – conscious knowledge is a special case of the relationship which exists between all living beings and their environments. Professor Munz examines and rejects the Wittgensteinian position. Instead, Our Knowledge of the Growth of Knowledge, first published in 1985, elaborates the potentially fruitful link between Popper’s critical rationalism and Neo-Darwinism. Read in the light of the latter, Popper’s philosophy leads to the transformation of Kant’s Transcendental Idealism into ‘Hypothetical Realism’, whilst the emphasis on the biological orientation of Popper’s thought helps to illumine some difficulties in Popper’s ‘falsificationism’.

Book A History of Psychology in Ten Questions

Download or read book A History of Psychology in Ten Questions written by Michael Hyland and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-11-23 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of this student-friendly book uses the history of psychology as a backdrop to provide a commentary on key historical developments and modern dilemmas, whilst encouraging readers to think about questions affecting life today. How do you know if something is true? How do you explain and control behaviour? What is the relation between psychology and physiology? How will artificial intelligence affect humanity? This book answers these and other questions by covering a wide range of topics in psychology, including neuroscience, personality, behaviourism, cognitive and humanistic psychology, qualitative methodology, inheritance and hermeneutics, all brought up to date with recent research. Drawing on the author’s own teaching, the book is structured around ten key questions where the history of psychology provides insight into modern life. Accessible for all readers, each chapter is also equipped with a ‘Lesson for modern life’ and nine ‘Essays and discussion topics’ so that readers can apply these ideas to their own thought practice. These provide interesting topics for discussion around issues that affect life and society. This insightful text encourages readers to question their own lives and the wider society by providing an engaging introduction to debates in history and contemporary society. The book is also the ideal resource for undergraduate students of psychology taking CHIPS and other history of psychology modules, as well as anyone generally interested in learning more about this fascinating subject. This text also has its own Instructors Resources, which includes Multiple Choice Questions, Student Slides and Lecture Slides. These will be available from Routledge’s Instructors Hub, once the book has published.

Book Physics of Soccer Ii

Download or read book Physics of Soccer Ii written by Deji Badiru and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2018-04-27 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following up on the success of Physics of Soccer, this second volume, Physics of Soccer II, represents a comprehensive amalgamation of the various on-and-off-field attributes needed to be an excellent soccer player. Deji Badiru, a professional engineer and former soccer player and coach, notes that no matter how talented a player you are, if you cant be on the field, you cant make a contribution. So, it is crucial that you get yourself prepared mentally and physically to be on the field. Based on his personal experiences with soccer, this newest guide draws on all aspects of science, technology, engineering, math, and even the arts and humanities to help readers: use their minds to gain an edge over opponents; make appropriate on-field decisions based on science and mathematics; assess the capabilities of teammates and opponents from a scientic viewpoint; and capitalize on the geometry of the eld of play and the respective locations and placements of other players. Badiru views the field of play as a system of people, objects, and the environment, whose respective behaviors are governed by the laws of science. Put those laws to work for you with the lessons in Physics of Soccer II.
