Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information pertinent to users of the program to optimize simulated trajectories (POST) is presented. The input required and output available is described for each of the trajectory and targeting optimization options. A sample input listing and resulting output are given. POST is a generalized point mass, discrete parameter targeting and optimization program which provides the capability to target and optimize point mass trajectories for a powered or unpowered vehicle near an arbitrary rotating, oblate planet. POST has been used successfully to solve a wide variety of atmospheric ascent and reentry problems, as well as exoatmospheric orbital transfer problems. The generality of this program is evidenced by its N-phase simulation capability which features generalized planet and vehicle models. This flexible simulation capability is augmented by an efficient discrete parameter optimization capability which includes equality and inequality constraints.--P. 1.0.0.1.

This book was released on 1995 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis and optimization of trajectories for aerospace vehicles has been extensively conducted by many government agencies using the Program to Optimize Simulated Trajectories (POST). The versatility of this program is made possible by its generalized planet and vehicle models, use of equality and inequality constraints, and multiple phase simulation capabilities. Unfortunately, it takes a "rocket scientist" to effectively use this program. For those who wish to have the power of this program without having to learn the required POST language, a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is necessary. The GUI supports all the features of POST by offering the user selection windows that change depending on previous selections. An editable display window is the central portion of the GUI. As each selection is made from the event icons, the corresponding POST commands appear in the display window. This gives the experienced user the ability to switch between the new interface and the old file entry methods, and acquaints the new user with the POST file entry method. Once all selections are made the file can then be read by POST and the output used for analysis and visualization.

Book excerpt: A capability to simulate trajectories Of Multiple interacting rigid bodies has been developed. This capability uses the Program to Optimize Simulated Trajectories II (POST II). Previously, POST II had the ability to simulate multiple bodies without interacting forces. The current implementation is used for the Simulation of parachute trajectories, in which the parachute and suspended bodies can be treated as rigid bodies. An arbitrary set of connecting lines can be included in the model and are treated as massless spring-dampers. This paper discusses details of the connection line modeling and results of several test cases used to validate the capability.Raiszadeh, Ben and Queen, Eric M.Langley Research CenterTRAJECTORIES; SIMULATION; INTERACTIONAL AERODYNAMICS; RIGID STRUCTURES; CONNECTORS; PARACHUTES

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper describes the parallelization of the Program to Optimize Simulated Trajectories (POST3D). POST3D uses a gradient-based optimization algorithm that reaches an optimum design point by moving from one design point to the next. The gradient calculations required to complete the optimization process, dominate the computational time and have been parallelized using a Single Program Multiple Data (SPMD) on a distributed memory NUMA (non-uniform memory access) architecture. The Origin2OOO was used for the tests presented.
