Download or read book School District Master Planning written by Kelley D. Carey and published by R&L Education. This book was released on 2011-09-16 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is school district master planning? This book explains how this planning is done, using a proven process, not theories. The process helps you avoid cost overruns, public outrage, repeated redistricting, and classrooms built in wrong places that all represent poor planning. Planning tools, steps and process check lists are discussed in rich detail, using actual case studies and the planning triangle of programs, demographics and facilities. Process roles are explained for district staff, consultants, and the public at each step. Steps are clearly explained for acquiring, analyzing, and applying critical data to drive planning to redistrict, build, close, renovate or expand schools. Steps are carefully explained for developing the comprehensive masterplan and getting it implemented on time and within budget. This book pulls no punches as to what usually goes wrong and why, along with what must be done, step by step, to avoid such mistakes. It is a guide to developing a district master plan that will work out for the long term and promote public support for public education.

Book A Plan for Evaluating the District of Columbia s Public Schools

Download or read book A Plan for Evaluating the District of Columbia s Public Schools written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-07-25 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The District of Columbia (DC) has struggled for decades to improve its public education system. In 2007 the DC government made a bold change in the way it governs public education with the goal of shaking up the system and bringing new energy to efforts to improve outcomes for students. The Public Education Reform Amendment Act (PERAA) shifted control of the city's public schools from an elected school board to the mayor, developed a new state department of education, created the position of chancellor, and made other significant management changes. A Plan for Evaluating the District of Columbia's Public Schools offers a framework for evaluating the effects of PERAA on DC's public schools. The book recommends an evaluation program that includes a systematic yearly public reporting of key data as well as in-depth studies of high-priority issues including: quality of teachers, principals, and other personnel; quality of classroom teaching and learning; capacity to serve vulnerable children and youth; promotion of family and community engagement; and quality and equity of operations, management, and facilities. As part of the evaluation program, the Mayor's Office should produce an annual report to the city on the status of the public schools, including an analysis of trends and all the underlying data. A Plan for Evaluating the District of Columbia's Public Schools suggests that D.C. engage local universities, philanthropic organizations, and other institutions to develop and sustain an infrastructure for ongoing research and evaluation of its public schools. Any effective evaluation program must be independent of school and city leaders and responsive to the needs of all stakeholders. Additionally, its research should meet the highest standards for technical quality.

Book A Program Budgeting Cost Model for School District Planning

Download or read book A Program Budgeting Cost Model for School District Planning written by and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many school districts have adopted some of the accounting mechanics of a planning, programming and budgeting system (PPB), but in the majority of cases the program planning aspect of PPB has not been a feature of the effort. Of the many hypotheses concerning why there has been a dearth of analysis-based decisionmaking, one is that the information system is not yielding the type of information needed for analysis. The paper reports on the development and construction of an education program cost model that is designed to serve as that tool in filling the data gap in program cost information.

Book Stakeholder Driven Strategic Planning in Education

Download or read book Stakeholder Driven Strategic Planning in Education written by Robert W. Ewy and published by Quality Press. This book was released on 2008-11-13 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No school district becomes excellent without a strategic plan, but many remain mediocre with them. What makes the difference? This book has been written to describe what it means to engage in serious long-range or “strategic” planning and to provide solutions to the inadequacies and inconsistencies found in the way school districts approach this process. The book is intended to be as practical as possible, meaning that by understanding the design and following the suggested strategic planning team activities found in each chapter, you could facilitate this process in your district. All key components are described and multiple examples are used to help the reader understand the intent of each component and how the components fit together. In addition, questionnaires and surveys are included to simplify facilitation. The basic reference used to refine the Stakeholder-Driven Strategic Planning process is the Strategic Planning Category of the Baldrige Education Criteria for Performance Excellence.
