Download or read book Office Automation written by Don Tapscott and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every pioneer takes large risks, hoping that the new frontier he seeks will provide the benefits of independence and good fortune. Don Tapscott is such a pioneer in the area of office automation. He has been a true pioneer, having entered the field in its early days and taken the risk of working not in technol ogy, which was fashionable, but in the field of the problems of organizations, which was less fashionable, but in many ways more important. The utilization of computers for data processing, accounting, inventory, and other "bread and butter" applications is now well entrenched in our society and culture. The process of designing such systems tends to focus on the needs of the company and the constraints of the equipment, leading to efficient systems with little tolerance for the variety of people who must use or interface with them. Within the office automation area, these methods do not work nearly as well. The frequency and amount of human interaction in the office environment, and the wide variety of situations and reactions there in, demands a different design methodology.

Book excerpt: If your company wants to save money currently spent on waste hauling, disposal, and clean-up costs, while protecting the environment, this is the book for you. Let Trash to Cash serve as your implementation guide to an effective, on-going corporate paper recycling and waste reduction program. Berman addresses the major issues and realities surrounding paper consumption and recycling. This prescriptive guide can show you how to achieve a financially successful program for your company. Fully illustrated, Trash to Cash contains practical and insightful case studies that demonstrate how successful programs have been created and kept alive at AT&T, McDonald's, Merrill Lynch and other role-model corporations. Learn how to be on target environmentally while saving your company thousands, even millions of dollars. Discover how a minor change to a paper bag saved McDonald's $2.6 million in 1994. See how Giordano Paper Recycling Corporation saved a company $50/ton in waste hauling fees and earn an $80/ton recycling payment instead. We are in a crisis situation. Statistical evidence is everywhere and the message is loud and clear. Paper consumption, landfills, deforestation, lumber production, and population growth rates all have an impact. This book identifies specific techniques that work and shows how any large or medium sized organization can overcome obstacles to curbing consumption and to recycling. The detailed case examples demonstrate how various companies have overcome their crises and "closed the loop" by buying recycled products.

Download or read book Proceedings September 23 24 25 1957 written by and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is wrong with this picture? That's the question Judith Warner asks after taking a good, hard look at the world of modern motherhood--at anxious women at work and at home and in bed with unhappy husbands. When Warner had her first child, she was living in Paris, where parents routinely left their children home with state-subsidized nannies. When she returned to the States, she was stunned by the cultural differences she found toward motherhood. None of the mothers she met seemed happy: Instead, they worried about the possibility of not having the perfect child, panicking as each developmental benchmark approached. Combining close readings of mainstream magazines, TV shows, and pop culture with a thorough command of dominant ideas in recent psychological, social, and economic theory, this book addresses our cultural assumptions, and examines the forces that have shaped them.
