Book excerpt: This paper presents an assessment of the level of observance of the Insurance Core Principles (ICPs) in China. Overall, the Chinese regulatory system is assessed to have a good level of compliance with the ICPs. The regulatory framework includes, in addition to the solvency standards, extensive requirements on corporate governance, risk management and internal controls as well as on reinsurance, disclosure and conduct of business. All these requirements are applied appropriately to the significant number of large insurance groups, which together account for the bulk of premium income. However, there is scope for further development of crisis preparedness and market conduct work.

Book China s Professional Employer Association Law

Download or read book China s Professional Employer Association Law written by Wu Wenfang and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-06-14 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies the coordination mechanism of labor relations from the perspective of China’s law on employer association. The first part of the book examines the definition, functions, and institutional basis of employer associations in different types of labor relations, focusing on the complementarity between the law and the coordination mechanism of labor relations in the context of different social environments, institutional frameworks, and their different responses to deregulated labor policies. It then reviews the legislation, responsibilities, and institutional guarantees of employer associations in modern China. The second part outlines the current limitations of legal resources in terms of subject matter, participation mechanisms, and participation channels that constrain the coordination of industrial relations by China’s employer associations. The author emphasizes that the systematic legal safeguards of employer associations should be function-oriented and gradually established in a targeted and differentiated manner. The title will appeal to labor and employment law scholars and legislators, and especially to those interested in the law of employer association.

Book Western Perspectives On The People s Republic Of China Politics Economy And Society

Download or read book Western Perspectives On The People s Republic Of China Politics Economy And Society written by Colin Mackerras and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-03-05 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How have Westerners seen the People's Republic of China over the years? The question raises many important issues, which this book aims to present, analyze and explain. The basic conclusion is that Western perspectives are somewhat more complex than simply viewing China's realities. Involved also are politics and power relations, trends in journalism and scholarship, as well as individual and group personalities and psychologies.Based on extensive personal experiences in China dating back to 1964 and wide-ranging travel in Tibet and ethnic regions since the 1980s, the author attempts to distinguish trends in different Western countries. However, most of the material will concern the United States, which has been the dominant contributor to Western perspectives during the whole period of concern to this book. The perspectives are taken up by topic, including politics, economy, society, and ethnic minorities. Inherent in each topic is the way cultures see and react towards each other. Images and perspectives can affect policy, and have done so many times in the past, which adds to the importance of this book. It also takes up questions of the sources of Western perspectives, both in terms of direct sources, such as newspapers, television or the internet, and deeper ones, such as social values and temperament.

Book A Path for Chinese Civil Society

Download or read book A Path for Chinese Civil Society written by Jianxing Yu and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2012 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book combines empirical research and theoretical discussions to demonstrate that the civil society paradigm as a western concept could be applicable to the study of state-society relations in contemporary China. However, the growth of Chinese civil society does not necessarily present an adversarial or confrontational relationship between state and society, but rather it is a cooperative relationship based on common interests and mutual benefits between industrial associations and local governments. The findings of this research confirm that, in contrast to the conventional civil society model in Western and Eastern Europe, where civic organizations are independent of the state, challenging the state hegemony, Chinese civic organizations, however, still lack autonomy and even remain closely linked to the state, but they are growing and expanding their public space and important role in public affairs through active participation. This non-western path for civil society development is a precise reflection of reality that is profoundly shaped and constrained by Chinese institutional, sociological, and cultural context. Through close investigation into the industrial, organizational, and social governance of industrial associations in Wenzhou and in-depth analysis of their challenges and developments within the institutional context, this book provides fresh empirical evidence and insightful analysis of how industrial associations have actively participated in local industrial governance and conduct of public affairs, gained greater space for their development, and become indispensable partners of local government in social governance.

Book Civil Society in Asia

Download or read book Civil Society in Asia written by Wayne Hudson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-11-01 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In East and Southeast Asia, the creation of civil society is a crucial yet most difficult issue. Europeans have had the luxury of centuries in a slow-moving world characterised by weak governments in which the foundation institutions, norms and values of civil society could ferment and develop. Asia, however, faces this task when a nation's currency can devalue in seconds, destabilising its government, and when states have far more effective means of surveillance, suppression and terror. This book examines these issues and shows that a better understanding of civil society in the Asian context is central to promoting contemporary political, social and economic reform in Asia. It will appeal to students and teachers of politics, law and sociology because it provides new perspectives on how to understand civil society drawing on Asian examples, as well as indications for rethinking what civil society means in Asia. Individual chapters combine theoretical and empirical issues in a way which fills a major gap in the literature. Henceforth, works about 'civil society' will need to take more account of the Asian evidence and Asianists will need to have a clear idea of what civil society in Asia means.
