Book The Kibbutz Industry

Download or read book The Kibbutz Industry written by Yaffa Moskovich and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-04-14 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the changes in many kibbutz factories which have recently transformed from socialist entities, with egalitarian and cooperative relationships, to hierarchical and market-driven structures. Focusing on five case studies from an ethnographic perspective, the book explores the reasons for this organizational change and examines its ideological, social, and economic causes. Ranging from organizational culture as a tool for economic success to the cooperative clan lifestyle and its organizational experience for improving human life and economic production, the author uncovers and investigates various hidden layers of the organizational culture in the kibbutz, revealing that cultural change in the factories was intended as a way of coping with a changing competitive environment. Adding new typologies for familial business types, demonstrating how hybrid organizational structures have promoted economic success, and examining the lesser-studied communal perspective, it shows how social development can be used to provide a deeper analysis of the kibbutz industry as a microcosm of the changes in communal lifestyle that have recently shifted toward materialism and capitalism. As such, The Kibbutz Industry will appeal to scholars and students with interests in the sociology of organization, business studies, human resource management, and organizational behavior.

Book The Industrial Geography of Israel

Download or read book The Industrial Geography of Israel written by Yehuda Gradus and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-04-10 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Israel's industrial geography is unique. The continuing Arab-Israeli conflict has been a primary force behind government intervention in settlement patterns, and has led to a major effort to disperse industry. The geopolitical situation has also encouraged a policy of attempted self-reliance, especially for defence purposes. These factors, combined with an abundant human capital, have given Israeli high-technology industries a special place in the international division of labour. The absorption of waves of mass immigration has influenced industrial development. Rural industrialisation, mainly by the Kibbutz (communal settlement) movement, is another unique feature. The Industrial Geography of Israel presents a comprehensive overview of industrial spatial development of Israel from the Ottoman era to present times, evaluating industrial dispersal policy, corporate geography, high-technology industries, entrepreneurship and rural industrial development. The spatial development of Israeli industry is set within the broader context of Israel's political and economic development and of global economic change, as well as theories of industrial location and regional planning and development.

Book excerpt: In spite of its considerable achievements, the labor economy in Israel has become a subject of contention and one that poses many challenges for the student and for the researcher who attempts to trace the obvious and the concealed mechanisms that function within it. The big problem-one that transcends nation and party-is can socialist enterprise and democratic politics coexist? The labor enterprises of Israel are divided in these two volumes into cooperative societies and administrative enterprises. The structure of the cooperative enterprises is presented in volume o≠ while the second volume focuses entirely on problems of the institutional economy within Hevrat Ovdim, the economic arm of the Histadrut (General Federation of Labor).
