This book was released on 2020-08-14 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent technologies for sustainable development and maintaining ecological integrity in the field of agriculture, forestry and environmental management for the green future. Describes the recent technologies and issues to generate awareness among the global scientific community towards sustainable development. Covers various eco-friendly approaches for successful management of soil, water, forest, agriculture, and other natural resources. Addresses the policy issues promoting conservation, protection and management of various natural resources. Presents the issues of climate change and sustainable strategies to combat such a mega event. The existence of life on the earth primarily depends upon the agriculture, forest and environment. The changing climate is imposing the multifaceted challenges in front of human civilization. The agroecosystem management practices and technologies leads to higher productivity with destruction of agricultural, forest and environmental habitat leading to soil-water-air pollution. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) plays a key role in the promoting research and developmental activities in various sectors to achieve the sustainable development goals under 2030 agenda. Gradual growth of science and technology has imposed a significant pressure on the different ecosystem. In this context, approaches such as sustainable agriculture, forestry and eco-friendly technologies need to be address across the world. Keeping view of these facts this book underlines scientific chapters dealing with the issues with proper explanation, and accompanied by illustrative diagrams, tables, database as required. The editors have tried to provide a brief scenario about the current issues related to the agriculture, forestry and environment. Therefore, the book would be a very useful resource for academicians, scientists, and policy makers of the related field.

Book Biorefinery Production Technologies for Chemicals and Energy

Download or read book Biorefinery Production Technologies for Chemicals and Energy written by Arindam Kuila and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-10-20 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers almost all of the diverse aspects of utilizing lignocellulosic biomass for valuable biorefinery product development of chemicals, alternative fuels and energy. The world has shifted towards sustainable development for the generation of energy and industrially valuable chemicals. Biorefinery plays an important role in the integration of conversion process with high-end equipment facilities for the generation of energy, fuels and chemicals. The book is divided into four parts. The first part, "Basic Principles of Biorefinery," covers the concept of biorefinery, its application in industrial bioprocessing, the utilization of biomass for biorefinery application, and its future prospects and economic performance. The second part, "Biorefinery for Production of Chemicals," covers the production of bioactive compounds, gallic acid, C4, C5, and C6 compounds, etc., from a variety of substrates. The third part, "Biorefinery for Production of Alternative Fuel and Energy," covers sustainable production of bioethanol, biodiesel, and biogas from different types of substrates. The last part of this book discusses sequential utilization of wheat straw, material balance, and biorefinery approach. The approaches presented in this book will help readers/users from different areas like process engineering and biochemistry to plan integrated and inventive methods to trim down the expenditure of the industrial manufacture process to accomplish cost-effective feasible products in biorefinery.

Book Biofuels Production and Processing Technology

Download or read book Biofuels Production and Processing Technology written by M.R. Riazi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-10 with total page 760 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of biofuels in greening the transport sector in the future is unquestionable, given the limited available fossil energy resources, the environmental issues associated to the utilization of fossil fuels, and the increasing attention to security of supply. This comprehensive reference presents the latest technology in all aspects of biofuels production, processing, properties, raw materials, and related economic and environmental aspects. Presenting the application of methods and technology with minimum math and theory, it compiles a wide range of topics not usually covered in one single book. It discusses development of new catalysts, reactors, controllers, simulators, online analyzers, and waste minimization as well as design and operational aspects of processing units and financial and economic aspects. The book rounds out by describing properties, specifications, and quality of various biofuel products and new advances and trends towards future technology.

Book Short Rotation Forestry for Industrial and Rural Development

Download or read book Short Rotation Forestry for Industrial and Rural Development written by Kartar S. Verma and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Short Rotation Forestry for Industrial and Rural Development is a compendium of 79 articles which were presented during an IUFRO International Conference on World Perspective on Short Rotation Forestry for Industrial and Rural Development, held at Solan from Sept.7-13, 2003. The book opens with an article by Lars Christersson, who is a leading short rotation forestry specialist from Sweden and has two other books to his credit. The book deals with various aspects of short rotation forestry, like silviculture, physiology, irrigation effects, productivity potential, processing and production, propagation techniques, genetic improvement and genetic diversity to the role of short rotation species in agro-forestry. Rather short rotation species currently being used in agro-forestry find major mention and treatment in the compendium. The book will be most relevant to the people working with agro-forestry species, which invariably have a short rotation period, foresters and NGO's working with plantation programmes for rural development and joint forest management and to Universities and Institutions dealing with forestry species.

Book Forest Ecosystem Management and Timber Production

Download or read book Forest Ecosystem Management and Timber Production written by Russell Warman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Timber sourcing is shifting from extraction from natural forests to forms of cultivation that are increasingly agricultural in nature. This book takes a multidisciplinary approach to examine the socio-political, biophysical and discursive dimensions of this divergence of wood production from forests. This analysis challenges the historical integration of wood production and forest ecosystem management exemplified by the institutions of forestry with their inherent wood/forest connection. This has significant implications for how wood and forest socio-ecological systems confront change and challenge ideas about how to achieve sustainability. Historically, the institutions of stewardship forestry were founded on ideals of sustainable systems in long-term equilibrium. However, these occur within rapidly evolving social and technological contexts that constantly challenge the maintenance of any equilibrium. This creates considerable tension within wood and forest socio-ecological systems and their institutions and governance. Moving beyond adaptation to transformation, however, requires a willingness to consider post-forestry conditions, such as integration of emerging wood cultivation systems into agricultural and landscape approaches, and increasing management of extensive forest ecosystems for non-wood values in the absence of wood production. This book includes four case studies: a global modelling of shifts in wood production and three national case studies (Australia, Indonesia and New Zealand), each analysing shifts in resilience in wood and forest socio-ecological systems using a different disciplinary approach. This book will be of interest to advanced students, researchers and professionals in forestry, land use, conservation, rural studies and geography.
