Book excerpt: Please note this is a Short Discount publication. This timely report provides an expert analysis of more than 50 international software packages in the fast growing but sparsely documented field of production control (MRP). There has been a rapid growth in both the development of software packages for production control and the operational requirements that they must satisfy - making selection of the optimum package for a specific application a lengthy and costly process. This in-depth study contains expert guidelines on how to choose a software package, by surveying over 50 major commercial packages currently on the market, and presenting matrices to quickly evaluate their suitability by application area. Essential reading for logistics and production management, DP management, general management and management consultants/software advisors, the report is organised as follows:

Book Advances in Production Management Systems

Download or read book Advances in Production Management Systems written by E. Eloranta and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is divided into four sections: invited papers, principles, systems and techniques. The invited papers form an extensive overview of the state-of-the-art of production management. The themes range from the everlasting hunt for better productivity to the implications of CIM architectures (particularly CIM-OSA) for production management. The other three sections of the book look at the various problems affecting production management. One of the characteristics of modern production management is the need for better principles, systems and techniques for interorganizational production management. Another topic of crucial relevance is the necessity to master not only repetitive manufacturing but also one-of-a-kind product manufacturing. From the managerial point of view, the forecast-based make-to-stock principles have proven insufficient, with market forces demanding fast and reliable deliveries of customer-oriented products. The goals of production management have been re-evaluated as a result.

Book Production Control

Download or read book Production Control written by J. W. M. Bertrand and published by North-Holland. This book was released on 1990 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past 15 years the authors have been engaged in projects with many firms to analyse and redesign production and inventory control systems. The main purpose of this analysis and redesign was the reduction of inventory and costs, improvement of delivery performance, and simplification of the organization involved in production and inventory control. During these studies the authors became convinced that the knowledge available on the design of control systems places too much emphasis on techniques and methods, whereas the main concern should be to establish a proper control structure. This control structure should identify the main decision functions, their goals, their relationships, and the organizational position to which these decision functions should be assigned. For each decision function in the control structure, a global planning and decision procedure should be established. This book gives a comprehensive overview on the elements of a good production control structure. It examines approaches for possible structures, and how to select an adequate structure for a particular production situation. The book consists of two parts: The first part covers basic terms and ideas regarding the design of production and inventory control systems in general. The second part examines four case studies from essentially different production areas. The volume is intended for postgraduate students in such fields as production and inventory control, logistics, information systems and practitioners who are working in this field on a high organisation level.

The scope of the work includes, but is not limited to, the following topics: 1) design and implementation of new production planning and control systems taking into account new technology and management philosophy; 2) CAPM in a CIM environment including interfaces to CAD and CAM; 3) project management and cost engineering; 4) knowledge engineering in CAPM; 5) CAPM for Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) and Flexible Assembly Systems (F AS); 6) methods and concepts in CAPM; 7) economic and social implications of CAPM.

Book Lotsizing and Scheduling for Production Planning

Download or read book Lotsizing and Scheduling for Production Planning written by Knut Haase and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Billions of dollars are tied up in the inventories of manufacturing companies which cause large (interest) costs. A small decrease of the inventory and/or production costs without reduction of the service level can increase the profit substantially. Especially in the case of scarce capacity, efficient production schedules are fundamental for short delivery time and on-time delivery which are important competitive priorities. To support decision makers by improving their manufacturing resource planning system with appropriate methods is one of the most of production planning. interesting challenges The following chapters contain new models and new solution strategies which may be helpful for decision makers and for further research in the areas of production planning and operations research. The main subject is on lotsizing and scheduling. The objectives and further characteristics of such problems can be inferred from practical need. Thus, before an outline is given, we consider the general objectives of lotsizing and scheduling and classify the most important characteristics of such problems in the following sections.
