Book The Making of America

Download or read book The Making of America written by W. Cleon Skousen and published by Verity Publishing. This book was released on with total page 1304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States of America has been blessed with the world’s greatest political success formula. In a little over a century, this formula allowed a small segment of the human family—less than 6 percent—to become the richest nation on earth. It allowed them to create more than half of the world’s total output in production and enjoy the highest standard of living in the history of the world. In this book, we learn how the Founding Fathers discovered this success formula. Much of this discovery is told in the words of the Founders themselves, so that the reader can feel the power of their minds sweeping away thousands of years of bad government and illogical laws to formulate a whole new society based on human freedom. By returning to the roots of the Founders’ thinking, and contemplating the logic that they used in establishing the Constitution, we can better understand the challenges and solutions that confront us in today’s political world. This eBook includes the original index, illustrations, footnotes, table of contents and page numbering from the printed format.

Book Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land

Download or read book Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land written by Mark David Hall and published by Fidelis Books. This book was released on 2023-04-11 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars and popular authors regularly claim that Christianity, at least orthodox Christianity, has fostered oppression and intolerance. A common narrative is that liberty and equality have been advanced primarily when America’s leaders embrace progressive manifestations of religion or reject faith altogether. Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land demonstrates that Christianity is responsible for advancing liberty and equality for all citizens. Throughout American history, Christians have been motivated by their faith to create fair and just institutions, fight for political freedom, oppose slavery, and secure religious liberty for all. The New York Times’s 1619 Project is only a recent and prominent manifestation of the tendency of journalists, academics, and popular writers to portray American Christianity as a force of oppression and intolerance. Without shying away from the ways in which the Christian faith has been used to defend and even encourage harmful practices, Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land shows that it has far more often been a force for good. From the American Puritans—who created some of the most republican and free institutions the world had ever seen—to America’s founders’ opposition to slavery, to contemporary Christian legal advocacy groups that fight to protect religious liberty for everyone, this volume offers an important corrective to those who would downplay the role Christianity has played in advancing liberty and equality for all citizens.

Book excerpt: America's history has been shaped by the sacrifice and witness of millions who have exercised in extraordinary ways our nation's guarantee of religious freedom. Historians have referred to these periods as "Great Awakenings." In this ebook, comprised of three talks Carl Anderson gave between April and August 2012, the author argues that all people of faith ought to approach politics in an effort to transform the divisiveness and hostility in today's political arena into a society in which every person is respected and valued—a society that Pope John Paul II has called a "Civilization of Love."

Book Liberty to the Captives

Download or read book Liberty to the Captives written by Raymond Rivera and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2012-09-30 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liberty to the Captives is a book for any Christians who want to learn how to bring hope and redemption to their communities — for those who are ready to step beyond their comfort zone, leave the status quo behind, and take up Christ's call to minister within a world crying out for the freedom only God can bring. Longtime pastor Raymond Rivera's testimony of a life completely turned around — from gang member to RCA pastor — underscores his powerful message. Full of practical advice about how holistic community-based ministry can bring transformation, healing, and liberation from captivity, Liberty to the Captives encourages Christians to respond to God's call by ministering wherever God has placed them. Based on over forty-five years of pastoring inner-city churches, Rivera's inspiring vision challenges all Christians to think again about how their faith should lead to social action and defense of society's most vulnerable people.

Book Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land

Download or read book Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land written by Edwin S. Gaustad and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2003-06-12 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Should prayer be allowed in public schools? Should biology be taught according to Darwin or to the book of Genesis? Why is polygamy against the law? These are just a few of the questions that touch our lives directly and emerge out of the separation of church and state. In this volume, one of the most distinguished scholars of American religious history traces the complicated relationship of church and state from the early colonial period, through the unique American experiment in religious liberty after the Revolution, to the ongoing debate over religious issues in our schools and communities. Edwin Gaustad relates entertaining and edifying accounts of headline-grabbing court trials involving polygamy, witchcraft, and church taxation. He quotes moving passages from the speeches and writings of American Presidents and Supreme Court justices to prove that, to paraphrase Michelangelo, "religious liberty is made up of a series of trifles, but religious liberty is no trifle."

Book excerpt: Christians are often thought of as defending only their own religious interests in the public square. They are viewed as worrying exclusively about the erosion of their freedom to assemble and to follow their convictions, while not seeming as concerned about publicly defending the rights of Muslims, Hindus, Jews, and atheists to do the same. Andrew T. Walker, an emerging Southern Baptist public theologian, argues for a robust Christian ethic of religious liberty that helps the church defend religious freedom for everyone in a pluralistic society. Whether explicitly religious or not, says Walker, every person is striving to make sense of his or her life. The Christian foundations of religious freedom provide a framework for how Christians can navigate deep religious difference in a secular age. As we practice religious liberty for our neighbors, we can find civility and commonality amid disagreement, further the church's engagement in the public square, and become the strongest defenders of religious liberty for all. Foreword by noted Princeton scholar Robert P. George.

This book was released on 2022-10-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liberty is a look at this noble subject from a historical as well as Biblical standpoint. The author begins with a look at the life of his 10th great grandfather, who was a Puritan minister, and traces the history of the growth of liberty in this nation. As one moves through the book, liberty is observed from the view of the government, the home, the church, and the soul. The book is designed to be used as a quarterly study, complete with discussion questions. "Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof" (Leviticus 25:10). Ron Milliner and his wife have worked in public education for over 50 years. They both have a passion for history. His other passion is science, and his previous book, Fake Evidence, was a historical look at the major evolution-creation court cases from the Scopes Trial to Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District. They both grew up in the Louisville, Kentucky area but have broadened their horizons, having visited all 50 states and several foreign countries. They brought back many of these experiences into the classrooms where they shared them with their students. Now retired, he enjoys the opportunities to visit with churches and share what he has learned in history and science from a spiritual viewpoint.
