Book Business Process Analysis

Download or read book Business Process Analysis written by Geoffrey Darnton and published by . This book was released on 2012-08-13 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its first edition 15 years ago, Business Process Analysis has become a standard reference work in the library of many business process practitioners. This new edition continues the presentation of a portfolio of analysis techniques essential for any serious business process analysis work - and goes much further. Since those early days, there has been a rapid expansion of approaches to business process work, and most of these are reflected in the book's subtitle: architecture, engineering, improvement, management, and maturity. All these (and others) are addressed in the book, discussing the strengths and limitations of each. Whichever way you approach business process work, this book is essential reading for all practitioners because of its breadth and depth of commentary. It is careful to document sources, and has a comprehensive list of relevant material. The book is also essential reading for all students of business processes at final year undergraduate, and master's levels, as it meets relevant level descriptors. The book contains several innovative ideas, including: information technology is not the only enabling technology for business process improvement: business processes have been improved since time immemorial by the utilization of technology, not only information technology - and this will continue given modern technology convergence; the origin of virtually all approaches to systems analysis (including object-oriented analysis, and relational theory), is identified and documented; diagrammatic approaches to analyzing business processes are incapable of yielding models that can be checked for completeness and consistency, particularly as the number of processes increases; increasingly, the issue is not only business processes within an organization - the issue is business processes that cross organizational boundaries and may involve many enterprises; the book calls for a business process epistemology to complement business process ontology. Whatever your view about approaches to business processes, you will find this book stimulating, challenging, comprehensive, and thought provoking.

Book QMS Conversion A Process Approach

Download or read book QMS Conversion A Process Approach written by David Hoyle and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2002-07-24 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: QMS Conversion: A Process Approach assists organizations in converting their existing quality management systems of documentation into systems of managed processes that deliver business benefits. The 2000 version of ISO 9000 requires a different approach to be taken towards the achievement of quality, an approach that delivers customer satisfaction not simply compliance with documented procedures. By using a process approach to the development of a management system, the significant time and expense invested should be utilized in a way that will help an organization achieve real business benefits through the application of ISO 9000: 2000. The real value of the process approach is its focus on results thereby eliminating activities and procedures that do not add value in the organization's quest to satisfy its customers and other interested parties. Written in a straightforward, non-technical manner, the approach is easily understood and followed by managers or engineers at any level. It allows readers to focus on results rather than functions, activities, procedures or standards. Applying this methodology to the management of quality will give you a distinctive competitive edge over the companies that end the certification process once the requirements have been met. With this book, the reader will be able to: Recognize the difference between conformance to standard and system performance Distinguish between procedures and processes and understand what makes the two fundamentally different from one another Understand the large gap that exists between a procedural approach and a process approach Comprehend the importance and power of the eight quality management principles Understand the steps to be taken to convert element-based systems to process-based systems and identify the factors that affect success in the conversion process Construct a model of the business that identifies the key processes and their interfaces Establish performance indicators and measurements for each process and produce process flow charts that link together to form a coherent system description Understand the steps to take to construct a system that fulfills the design criteria Determine whether the conversion has been successful and identify where further improvement is required Each chapter is structured with a set of learning outcomes that can be accomplished by covering its contents. The chapters follow the sequence of the conversion process and each addresses the change in direction brought about by the ISO 9000: 2000 family of standards. Achieve real business benefits with ISO 9000:2000 Focus on results Provides process modeling and analysis techniques

Book Enterprise Resource Planning

Download or read book Enterprise Resource Planning written by K. Ganesh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-18 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the fundamental principles of understanding business requirements to apply enterprise resource planning (ERP) in order to meet business needs. The book also helps readers understand the usage of ERP for monitoring and controlling business processes, while providing practical oriented solutions to the design and implementation of ERP. Using the provided framework, a business can decide to provide more value at lower cost which increases its competitive advantage. This should be an ideal reference for executives, researchers and consultants in project management of ERP. ERP can be considered to be an integrated package of business process. The scope of ERP determines the extent of automation of business process. For example if ERP covers Human Resource (HR) and finance business processes only, then business process related HR and finance are automated. Typically business process that are automated in HR and finance employee entry and exist process, allocation of employee ID, payroll, processing , income tax planning and actual deduction etc. There is seamless flow of employee data and information is available at an effectively faster rate to take appropriate decision. As custom demand increases, there is a need to meet the changing scenario with speed and efficiency. While there is a need to increase productivity, there is also a need to reduce cost of operation. The repetitive business processes can be handled effectively by automating them and freeing human resources for meeting other uncertainties. These automations not only should be done for each department, but also should cut across different departments. Thus there is a need for automating business processes at enterprise level. This enterprise level automation started with MRP, then MRP II, ERP and then finally open source ERP have taken centre stage. Out of the standard products available in the market, an organization can chose an ERP product for implementation, depending on the features available and the total cost of ownership (TCO). This comparison helps an organization to choose the product that best suits the needs for the organization. Enterprise Resource Planning: Fundamentals of Design and Implementation highlights these concepts while discusses different good practices to design and implement ERP.
