Book Policies for Distributed Systems and Networks

Download or read book Policies for Distributed Systems and Networks written by Morris Sloman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-29 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Policy based systems are the subject of a wide range of activities in univer- ties, standardisation bodies, and within industry. They have a wide spectrum of applications ranging from quality of service management within networks to - curity and enterprise modelling. This Lecture Notes volume collects the papers presented at the workshop on Policies for Distributed Systems and Networks held at the Hewlett-Packard Laboratories in Bristol, UK in January 2001. After a rigorous review process 16 papers were selected from 43 submissions. Within the Internet community there is considerable interest in policy based networking. A number of companies have announced tools to support the sp- i?cation and deployment of policies. Much of this work is focused on policies for quality of service management within networks and the Internet Engineering and Distributed Management Task Force (IETF/DMTF) is actively working on standards related to this area. The security community has focused on the speci?cation and analysis of - cess control policy which has evolved into the work on Role-Based Access Control (RBAC). There has been work over a number of years in the academic c- munity on speci?cation and analysis of policies for distributed systems mostly concentrating on authorisation policies. Although there are strong similarities in the concepts and techniques used by the di?erent communities there is no commonly accepted terminology or notation for specifying policies.

Book Seventh IEEE International Workshop on Policies for Distributed Systems and Networks

Download or read book Seventh IEEE International Workshop on Policies for Distributed Systems and Networks written by and published by IEEE. This book was released on 2006 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Policy workshop attracts a relatively small and select group of researchers who have an interest in exploring computer interfaces that can be adapted to different users and to different environments. A policy-based system deals with an interface to a system that constrains or determines its behavior, based on an input specification, the policy. Policy is perhaps more about interaction rather than about computation. One of the guiding principles of information science is the optimization of data presentation, through the hiding of detail. Policy is every bit as important as other forms of user interface design. This year¿s contributions try to answer the questions raised. How is a computer program different from a policy? The papers in POLICY 2006 illustrate a spectrum of interest and enthusiasm about policy. There is enthusiasm for the concept of a policy, and for the representation of policy through language. There are still many unanswered questions, as well as new application areas to be found. Even the definition of policy is not yet an agreed-on quantity.

Book Collaborative Approaches for Cyber Security in Cyber Physical Systems

Download or read book Collaborative Approaches for Cyber Security in Cyber Physical Systems written by Theo Dimitrakos and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-02 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes cyber-security issues underpinning several cyber-physical systems and several application domains, proposing a common perspective able to collect similarities as well as depict divergences and specific solution methods. Special attention is given to those approaches and technologies that unleash the power of collaboration among stakeholders, in a field based often developed in isolation and segregation of information. Given the pervasively growing dependency of society on IT technology, and the corresponding proliferation of cyber-threats, there is both an imperative need and opportunity to develop a coherent set of techniques to cope with the changing nature of the upcoming cyber-security challenges. These include evolving threats and new technological means to exploit vulnerabilities of cyber-physical systems that have direct socio-technical, societal and economic consequences for Europe and the world. We witness cyber-attacks on large scale infrastructures for energy, transport, healthcare systems and smart systems. The interplay between security and safety issues is now paramount and will be even more relevant in the future. The book collects contributions from a number of scientists in Europe and presents the results of several European Projects, as NeCS, SPARTA, E-CORRIDOR and C3ISP. It will be of value to industrial researchers, practitioners and engineers developing cyber-physical solutions, as well as academics and students in cyber-security, ICT, and smart technologies in general.

Book Advances in Ad Hoc Networking

Download or read book Advances in Ad Hoc Networking written by Pedro Cuenca and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-06-02 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the Seventh Mediterranean Ad Hoc Networking Workshop (Med-Hoc-Net'2008), celebrated in Palma de Mallorca (llles Balears, Spain) during June 25-27, 2008. This IFIP TC6 Workshop was organized by the Universitat de les Illes Balears in cooperation with the Asociaci6n de Tdcnicos de lnform~tica and sponsored by the following Working Groups: WG6.3 (Performance of Computer Networks) and WG6.8 (Mobile and Wireless Communications). The rapid evolution of the networking industry introduces new exciting challenges that need to be explored by the research community. Aside the adoption of Internet as the global network infrastructure these last years have shown the growing of a set of new network architectures without a rigid and known a priori architecture using wireless techniques, like sensor and ad-hoc networks. These new types of networks are opening the possibility to create a large number of new applications ranging from domestic to nature surveying. These new networks are generating new technical challenges like the capability of auto-reconfiguration in order to give the network an optimal configuration, the energy saving need when the nodes have not a source of energy other than a small battery, new protocols to access the network and to convey the information across the network when its structure is not completely known or should be discovered, new paradigms for keeping the needed information security and privacy in a quite uncontrolled environment, and others.

Book Autonomic Computing

    Book Details:
  • Author : Manish Parashar
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2018-10-03
  • ISBN : 1420009354
  • Pages : 564 pages

Download or read book Autonomic Computing written by Manish Parashar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complexity of modern computer networks and systems, combined with the extremely dynamic environments in which they operate, is beginning to outpace our ability to manage them. Taking yet another page from the biomimetics playbook, the autonomic computing paradigm mimics the human autonomic nervous system to free system developers and administrators from performing and overseeing low-level tasks. Surveying the current path toward this paradigm, Autonomic Computing: Concepts, Infrastructure, and Applications offers a comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art research and implementations in this emerging area. This book begins by introducing the concepts and requirements of autonomic computing and exploring the architectures required to implement such a system. The focus then shifts to the approaches and infrastructures, including control-based and recipe-based concepts, followed by enabling systems, technologies, and services proposed for achieving a set of "self-*" properties, including self-configuration, self-healing, self-optimization, and self-protection. In the final section, examples of real-world implementations reflect the potential of emerging autonomic systems, such as dynamic server allocation and runtime reconfiguration and repair. Collecting cutting-edge work and perspectives from leading experts, Autonomic Computing: Concepts, Infrastructure, and Applications reveals the progress made and outlines the future challenges still facing this exciting and dynamic field.
