  • Pages : 506 pages

Download or read book ESEC 89 written by Carlo Ghezzi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1989 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is concerned with the broad topic of software engineering. It comprises the proceedings of the European Software Engineering Conference (ESEC) held at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom in September 1989 and its primary purpose is to summarise the state of the art in software engineering as represented by the papers at that conference. The material covers both submitted papers and a number of invited papers given at the conference. The topics covered include: metrics and measurement, software process modelling, formal methods including their use in industry, software configuration management, software development environments, and requirements engineering. The book is most likely to be of interest to researchers and professionals working in the field of software development. The primary value of the book is that it gives an up-to-date treatment of its subject material and includes some interesting discussions of the transfer of research ideas into industrial practice.

Book Foundations of Empirical Software Engineering

Download or read book Foundations of Empirical Software Engineering written by Barry Boehm and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-05-13 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although software engineering can trace its beginnings to a NATO conf- ence in 1968, it cannot be said to have become an empirical science until the 1970s with the advent of the work of Prof. Victor Robert Basili of the University of Maryland. In addition to the need to engineer software was the need to understand software. Much like other sciences, such as physics, chemistry, and biology, software engineering needed a discipline of obs- vation, theory formation, experimentation, and feedback. By applying the scientific method to the software engineering domain, Basili developed concepts like the Goal-Question-Metric method, the Quality-Improvement- Paradigm, and the Experience Factory to help bring a sense of order to the ad hoc developments so prevalent in the software engineering field. On the occasion of Basili’s 65th birthday, we present this book c- taining reprints of 20 papers that defined much of his work. We divided the 20 papers into 6 sections, each describing a different facet of his work, and asked several individuals to write an introduction to each section. Instead of describing the scope of this book in this preface, we decided to let one of his papers, the keynote paper he gave at the International C- ference on Software Engineering in 1996 in Berlin, Germany to lead off this book. He, better than we, can best describe his views on what is - perimental software engineering.

Book A Software Process Model Handbook for Incorporating People s Capabilities

Download or read book A Software Process Model Handbook for Incorporating People s Capabilities written by Silvia T. Acuna and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-03 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Software Process Model Handbook for Incorporating People's Capabilities offers the most advanced approach to date, empirically validated at software development organizations. This handbook adds a valuable contribution to the much-needed literature on people-related aspects in software engineering. The primary focus is on the particular challenge of extending software process definitions to more explicitly address people-related considerations. The capability concept is not present nor has it been considered in most software process models. The authors have developed a capabilities-oriented software process model, which has been formalized in UML and implemented as a tool. A Software Process Model Handbook for Incorporating People's Capabilities guides readers through the incorporation of the individual’s capabilities into the software process. Structured to meet the needs of research scientists and graduate-level students in computer science and engineering, this book is also suitable for practitioners in industry.
