Book Semantic Web Information Management

Download or read book Semantic Web Information Management written by Roberto de Virgilio and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-01-08 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Databases have been designed to store large volumes of data and to provide efficient query interfaces. Semantic Web formats are geared towards capturing domain knowledge, interlinking annotations, and offering a high-level, machine-processable view of information. However, the gigantic amount of such useful information makes efficient management of it increasingly difficult, undermining the possibility of transforming it into useful knowledge. The research presented by De Virgilio, Giunchiglia and Tanca tries to bridge the two worlds in order to leverage the efficiency and scalability of database-oriented technologies to support an ontological high-level view of data and metadata. The contributions present and analyze techniques for semantic information management, by taking advantage of the synergies between the logical basis of the Semantic Web and the logical foundations of data management. The book’s leitmotif is to propose models and methods especially tailored to represent and manage data that is appropriately structured for easier machine processing on the Web. After two introductory chapters on data management and the Semantic Web in general, the remaining contributions are grouped into five parts on Semantic Web Data Storage, Reasoning in the Semantic Web, Semantic Web Data Querying, Semantic Web Applications, and Engineering Semantic Web Systems. The handbook-like presentation makes this volume an important reference on current work and a source of inspiration for future development, targeting academic and industrial researchers as well as graduate students in Semantic Web technologies or database design.

Book Modeling and Management of Fuzzy Semantic RDF Data

Download or read book Modeling and Management of Fuzzy Semantic RDF Data written by Zongmin Ma and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-08 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book systemically presents the latest research findings in fuzzy RDF data modeling and management. Fuzziness widely exist in many data and knowledge intensive applications. With the increasing amount of metadata available, efficient and scalable management of massive semantic data with uncertainty is of crucial importance. This book goes to great depth concerning the fast-growing topic of technologies and approaches of modeling and managing fuzzy metadata with Resource Description Framework (RDF) format. Its major topics include representation of fuzzy RDF data, fuzzy RDF graph matching, query of fuzzy RDF data, and persistence of fuzzy RDF data in diverse databases. The objective of the book is to provide the state-of-the-art information to researchers, practitioners, and postgraduates students who work on the area of big data intelligence and at the same time serve as the uncertain data and knowledge engineering professional as a valuable real-world reference.

Book Law and the Semantic Web

Download or read book Law and the Semantic Web written by V. Richard Benjamins and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-02-09 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: by Roberto Cencioni At the Lisbon Summit in March 2000, European heads of state and government set a new goal for the European Union — to become the most competitive knowled- based society in the world by 2010. As part of this objective, ICT (information and communication technologies) services should become available for every citizen, and for all schools, homes and businesses. The book you have in front of you is about Semantic Web technology and law. Law is something omnipresent; all citizens — at some points in their lives — have to deal with it. In addition, law involves a large group of professionals, and is a mul- billion business world wide. Information technology is important because it that can improve citizens’ interaction with law, as well as improve legal professionals’ work environment. Legal professionals dedicate a significant amount of their time to finding, reading, analyzing and synthesizing information in order to take decisions, and prepare advice and trials, among other tasks. As part of the “Semantic-Based Knowledge and Content Systems” Strategic Objective, the European Commission is funding projects to construct technology to make the Semantic Web vision come true. 1 The articles in this book are related to two current foci of the Strategic Objective : • Knowledge acquisition and modelling, capturing knowledge from raw information and multimedia content in webs and other distributed repositories to turn poorly structured information into machi- processable knowledge.
