This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Food-Producing Systems for Arid and Semiarid Lands: Part B contains the proceedings of a symposium on ""Advances in Food-Producing Systems for Arid and Semiarid Lands"" of the International Symposium Series held in Kuwait in April 1980. As a continuation of the proceedings, this compilation contains the last three parts of the symposium and the editor's closing remarks. It specifically talks about the innovative food systems and aquacultural systems in the arid and semi-arid lands. It also addresses the general problems of post-harvest losses in food of plant origin and the possibilities to reduce these losses. The presented papers bring renewed vitality to the hope that appropriate and directed exploitation of various technologies can evolve developable industries for arid and semiarid lands.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In May 2016, over 110 scientists, students, and conservationists from 20 countries met at Purdue University for the 10th International Symposium on Agriculture and the Environment, also known as AgroEnviron 2016. Our environment continues to evolve, as factors such as global climate change and atmospheric warming alter local weather and growing conditions for agricultural crops. This Symposium provided a forum for new research on environmental studies, agricultural research, processes of soil erosion by wind and water, conservation policies, and innovative practices to preserve and protect the soil, water, and air resources, while at the same time providing for a sustainable agriculture. This proceedings volume contains the full text of every extended abstract presented during AgroEnviron 2016. Additionally, this book contains a narrative summary of the conference, the final program, information on the four keynote speakers, and some photographs from the symposium workshops, technical sessions, and field tour.

Book Greenhouse Engineering

Download or read book Greenhouse Engineering written by Ilhami Yildiz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-05-23 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable energy development concept requires and maintains multiple linkages among energy production, energy consumption, human well-being, and environmental quality. Greenhouse Engineering: Integrated Energy Management puts forward the concept of integrated energy management and modeling pertinent to greenhouses that will eventually help reduce the load on power grids, demand for fossil fuels and water, and supply CO2 for the greenhouse production. This book helps enhance the competitive position of the global greenhouse industry by introducing economically, environmentally and socially sustainable technologies and management strategies. Exclusive title on integrated energy management approach for greenhouse designing Addresses energy for heating concept Includes case studies from real work greenhouse systems Incorporates a design/energy management approach Contains updated material on greenhouse heating with examples and case studies Aimed at researchers, professionals, and students in the fields of energy systems, mechanical, agriculture, and biosystems engineering.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global concern about the impact of climatic variability on food supplies has been growing since 1963 when a major crop failure in the Soviet Union ended a long period of abundant, low-cost surplus grain. Since then a number of sizable crop shortfalls and food supply emergencies throughout the world have encouraged the study of climate-food interact

Book Transplant Production in the 21st Century

Download or read book Transplant Production in the 21st Century written by Chieri Kubota and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are facing global issues concerning environmental pollution and shortages of food, feed, phytomass (plant biomass) and natural resources, which will become more serious in the forthcoming decades. To solve these issues, immeasurable numbers of various plants and huge amounts of phytomass are required every year for food, feed and for the improvement of amenities, the environment and our quality of life. Increased phytomass is also required as alternative raw material for producing bio-energy, biodegradable plastics and many other plant-originated industrial products. Only by using phytomass as a reproducible energy source and raw material, instead of fossil fuels and atomic power, we can save natural resources and minimize environmental pollution. To increase phytomass globally, we need billions of quality transplants (small plants) to be grown yearly, in the field or in the greenhouse, under various environmental conditions. However, these high quality transplants can be produced only under carefully controlled, rather than variable environment al conditions. Recent research has shown that the closed transplant production system requires considerably small amounts of electricity, water, fertilizer, CO) and pesticide to produce value-added transplants as scheduled with minimum release of environmental pollutants and minimum loss of transplants. The closed or closed-type transplant production system is defined as a transplant production system covered with opaque walls with minimized or controlled ventilation rates, using artificial lighting. With this system, photoperiod, light intensity and quality, air temperature, humidity, CO) concentration and air current speed can be controlled as desired.
