Book Advances in Critical Flow Dynamics Involving Moving Deformable Structures with Design Applications

Download or read book Advances in Critical Flow Dynamics Involving Moving Deformable Structures with Design Applications written by Marianna Braza and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-10 with total page 599 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports on the latest knowledge concerning critical phenomena arising in fluid-structure interaction due to movement and/or deformation of bodies. The focus of the book is on reporting progress in understanding turbulence and flow control to improve aerodynamic / hydrodynamic performance by reducing drag, increasing lift or thrust and reducing noise under critical conditions that may result in massive separation, strong vortex dynamics, amplification of harmful instabilities (flutter, buffet), and flow -induced vibrations. Theory together with large-scale simulations and experiments have revealed new features of turbulent flow in the boundary layer over bodies and in thin shear layers immediately downstream of separation. New insights into turbulent flow interacting with actively deformable structures, leading to new ways of adapting and controlling the body shape and vibrations to respond to these critical conditions, are investigated. The book covers new features of turbulent flows in boundary layers over wings and in shear layers immediately downstream: studies of natural and artificially generated fluctuations; reduction of noise and drag; and electromechanical conversion topics. Smart actuators as well as how smart designs lead to considerable benefits compared with conventional methods are also extensively discussed. Based on contributions presented at the IUTAM Symposium “Critical Flow Dynamics involving Moving/Deformable Structures with Design applications”, held in June 18-22, 2018, in Santorini, Greece, the book provides readers with extensive information about current theories, methods and challenges in flow and turbulence control, and practical knowledge about how to use this information together with smart and bio-inspired design tools to improve aerodynamic and hydrodynamic design and safety.

Book Interface Problems and Methods in Biological and Physical Flows

Download or read book Interface Problems and Methods in Biological and Physical Flows written by Boo Cheong Khoo and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume showcases lecture notes collected from tutorials presented at the Workshop on Moving Interface Problems and Applications in Fluid Dynamics that was held between January 8 and March 31, 2007 at the Institute for Mathematical Sciences, National University of Singapore. As part of the program, these tutorials were conducted by specialists within their respective areas such as Robert Dillon, Zhilin Li, John Lowengrub, Frank Lu and Gretar Tryggvason. The topics in the program encompass modeling and simulations of biological flow coupled to deformable tissue/elastic structure, shock wave and bubble dynamics and various applications like biological treatments with experimental verification, multi-medium flow or multiphase flow and various applications including cavitation/supercavitation, detonation problems, Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid, and many other areas. This volume benefits graduate students and researchers keen in the field of interfacial flows for application to physical and biological systems. Even beginners will find this volume a very useful starting point with many relevant references applicable.

Book Recent Progresses in Fluid Dynamics Research

Download or read book Recent Progresses in Fluid Dynamics Research written by Jiachun Li and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2011-10-17 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings would be of interest to researchers in Fluid Mechanics. The current volume of ICFM Proceedings includes 179 articles, covering topics in almost every scope of Fluid Dynamics and focuses on novel theoretical, numerical and experimental advances in flow transition and turbulence, aerodynamics and gas dynamics, hydrodynamics, environmental and industrial fluid mechanics, multiphase flows and flows in porous media, plasma and chemical flows as well as bio-fluid mechanics and micro-scale flows. Eight outstanding scientists in fluid mechanics fields are invited to deliver plenary frontiers lectures on internal waves, fluid-structure coupling, separated bubble, high speed boundary layer, streak breakdown, reactive flows, multiphase flow computation and sediment transport. It can be seen that aerospace engineering, environment/energy engineering, coastal/ocean engineering and biomedical engineering and other emerging interdisciplinary studies continue to represent the main trends of development in fluid mechanics in addition to traditional research fields.
