This book was released on 1994 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Proceedings contain papers presented at the Sixteenth Annual Seismic Research Symposium held 7-9 September 1994, in Thornwood, New York. This Symposium represents the combined annual review for the seismic verification research programs funded by the Air Force Phillips Laboratory, PL/GPE and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, AFOSR/NM. The scientific objectives of the research programs are to improve the Air Force's capability to seismically detect, locate, identify, and characterize underground nuclear explosions. The purpose of these Symposia, organized annually by GPE, is to provide the sponsoring agency an opportunity to review research, particularly contractor research, accomplished during the preceding year and to outline areas of investigation for the coming year. For the researchers, it provides a forum for the exchange of scientific information to help achieve program goals, and an opportunity to meet PL and AFOSR staff to discuss results and future plans. In addition, the Symposium and the technical presentations serve as an important avenue for technology transition to the Air Force user. Underground nuclear explosions, Discrimination, Regional seismology, Earthquake sources, Structure of the crust and upper mantle.

Download or read book Proceedings of the Annual Seismic Research Symposium 15th Held in Vail Colorado on 8 10 September 1993 written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Symposium represents the combined annual review for the seismic verification research programs. The scientific objectives of the research programs are to improve the Air Force's capability to seismically detect, locate, identify, and estimate the yield of underground nuclear explosions. The purpose of these Symposia is to provide the sponsoring agencies an opportunity to review research, particularly contractor research, accomplished during the preceding year and to outline areas of investigation for the coming year. For the researchers, it provides a forum for the exchange of scientific information to help achieve program goals, and an opportunity to meet PL, AFOSR, and NMRO staff to discuss results and future plans. The papers include studies of the identification and characterization of seismic explosion sources (discrimination), intelligent processing of regional seismic signals, the acquisition and processing of seismic data including data from the Commonwealth of Independent States, regional seismic wave propagation from both an empirical and theoretical viewpoint, yield estimation, and laboratory studies of rock properties appropriate to test sites.

Book Forty Centuries of Wage and Price Controls

Download or read book Forty Centuries of Wage and Price Controls written by Robert L. Schuettinger. and published by Ludwig von Mises Institute. This book was released on 1979 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mises Institute is thrilled to bring back this popular guide to ridiculous economic policy from the ancient world to modern times. This outstanding history illustrates the utter futility of fighting the market process through legislation. It always uses despotic measures to yield socially catastrophic results. It covers the ancient world, the Roman Republic and Empire, Medieval Europe, the first centuries of the U.S. and Canada, the French Revolution, the 19th century, World Wars I and II, the Nazis, the Soviets, postwar rent control, and the 1970s. It also includes a very helpful conclusion spelling out the theory of wage and price controls. This book is a treasure, and super entertaining!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The ground we walk on and grow crops in also just happens to be the most widely used building material on the planet. Civilizations throughout time have used it to create stable warm low-impact structures. The world's first skyscrapers were built of mud brick. Paul Revere Chairman Mao and Ronald Reagan all lived in earth houses at various points in their lives and several of the buildings housing Donald Judd's priceless collection at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa Texas are made of mud brick." "While the vast legacy of traditional and vernacular earthen construction has been widely discussed, little attention has been paid to the contemporary tradition of earth architecture. Author Ronald Rael founder of Eartharchitecture.org provides a history of building with earth in the modern era focusing particularly on projects constructed in the last few decades that use rammed earth mud brick compressed earth cob and several other interesting techniques. Earth Architecture presents a selection of more than 40 projects that exemplify new creative uses of the oldest building material on the planet."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Extreme Weather Events and Public Health Responses

Download or read book Extreme Weather Events and Public Health Responses written by Wilhelm Kirch and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-08-02 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global climate is changing. The trend towards warmer average surface temperatures for the period since 1976 is roughly three times that of the past 100 years as a whole. In recent years warming seems to be attributable to human activities (man-made environmental changes) like land-use changes, deforestation, urbanisation and the reduction of wetlands. Global climate change is likely to be accompanied by an increase in frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. This brings with it increased health risks and hence a demand for an adequate response from local health authorities to meet these risks. In 2004, the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the European Environment Agency organized an expert meeting to exchange information and develop recommendations on public health and environmental responses to weather and climate extremes, floods, heat-waves and cold spells. This book reflects a collection of case studies and experiences of experts, ministries and international organizations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past two decades there has been increased interest in the availability of hydrocarbon charge through a better understanding of petroleum geochemistry and the identification and characterization of petroleum source rocks. These rocks are geochemically unique and form under specific sets of circumstances. This book brings together both geologic and geochemical data from fifteen petroleum source rocks, ranging in age from Devonian to Eocene, that would otherwise be widely dispersed in the literature or available only in proprietary corporate databases. Much of this information, presented in either a tabular or graphic fashion, provides the petroleum explorationist and the geochemist with a framework to establish relationships among various geochemical indices and depositional settings.
