Book Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors

Download or read book Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors written by J.D. Chadi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 1580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors are contained in this volume. A record 1050 scientists from 40 countries participated in the Conference which was held in San Francisco August 6·1 0, 1984. The Conference was organized by the ICPS Committee and sponsored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics and other professional, government, and industrial organizations listed on the following pages. Papers representing progress in all aspects of semiconductor physics were presented. Far more abstracts (765) than could be presented in a five-day meeting were considered by the International Program Committee. A total of 350 papers, consisting of 5 plenary, 35 invited, and 310 contributed, were presented at the Conference in either oral or poster sessions. All but a few of the papers were submitted and have been included in these Proceedings. An interesting shift in subject matter, in comparison with earlier Conferences, is manifested by the large number of papers on surfaces, interfaces, and quantum wells. To facilitate the use of the Proceedings in finding closely related papers among the sometimes relatively large number of contributions within a main subject area, we chose not to arrange the papers strictly according to the Conference schedule. We have organized the book, as can be seen from the Contents, into specific subcategories and subdivisions within each major category. Plenary and invited papers have been placed together with the appropriate contributed papers.

Book Compound Semiconductors 2004

Download or read book Compound Semiconductors 2004 written by J.C. Woo and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-04-01 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compound Semiconductors 2004 was the 31st Symposium in this distinguished international series, held at Hoam Convention Center of Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea from September 12 to September 16, 2004. It attracted over 180 submissions from leading scientists in academic and industrial research institutions, and remains a major forum for the compound semiconductor research community since the first one held in 1966 at Edinburgh, UK under the name of 'International Symposium on Gallium Arsenide and related Compounds'. These proceedings provide an international perspective on the latest research and an overview of recent, important developments in III-V compounds, II-VI compounds and IV-IV compounds. In the total of 106 papers, notable progress was reported in the development of zinc oxide and spintronics. Steady advances were seen in traditional topics such as III-V based electronic and optoelectronic devices, growth and processing, and characterization. Novel research trends were observed in quantum structures, such as quantum wires and dots, which are promising for future developments in nanotechnology. As the primary forum for research into these materials and their device applications the book is an essential reference for researchers working on compound semiconductors in semiconductor physics, device physics, materials science, chemistry and electronic and electrical engineering.

Book High Magnetic Fields in Semiconductor Physics II

Download or read book High Magnetic Fields in Semiconductor Physics II written by Gottfried Landwehr and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains contributions presented at the International Conference "The Application of High Magnetic Fields in Semiconductor Physics", which was held at the University of Wiirzburg from August 22 to 26, 1988. In the tradition of previous Wiirzburg meetings on the subject - the first conference was held in 1972 - only invited papers were presented orally. All 42 lecturers were asked to review their subject to some extent so that this book gives a good overview of the present state of the respective topic. A look at the contents shows that the subjects which have been treated at previous conferences have not lost their relevance. On the contrary, the application of high magnetic fields to semiconductors has grown substantially during the recent past. For the elucidation of the electronic band structure of semicon ductors high magnetic fields are still an indispensable tool. The investigation of two-dimensional electronic systems especially is frequently connected with the use of high magnetic fields. The reason for this is that a high B-field adds angular momentum quantization to the boundary quantization present in het erostructures and superlattices. A glance at the contributions shows that the majority deal with 2D properties. Special emphasis was on the integral and fractional quantum Hall effect. Very recent results related to the observation of a fraction with an even denbminator were presented. It became obvious that the polarization of the different fractional Landau levels is more complicated than originally anticipated.

Book Dilute Nitride Semiconductors

Download or read book Dilute Nitride Semiconductors written by Mohamed Henini and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-12-15 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains full account of the advances made in the dilute nitrides, providing an excellent starting point for workers entering the field. It gives the reader easier access and better evaluation of future trends, Conveying important results and current ideas. Includes a generous list of references at the end of each chapter, providing a useful reference to the III-V-N based semiconductors research community. The high speed lasers operating at wavelength of 1.3 μm and 1.55 μm are very important light sources in optical communications since the optical fiber used as a transport media of light has dispersion and attenuation minima, respectively, at these wavelengths. These long wavelengths are exclusively made of InP-based material InGaAsP/InP. However, there are several problems with this material system. Therefore, there has been considerable effort for many years to fabricate long wavelength laser structures on other substrates, especially GaAs. The manufacturing costs of GaAs-based components are lower and the processing techniques are well developed. In 1996 a novel quaternary material GaInAsN was proposed which could avoid several problems with the existing technology of long wavelength lasers. In this book, several leaders in the field of dilute nitrides will cover the growth and processing, experimental characterization, theoretical understanding, and device design and fabrication of this recently developed class of semiconductor alloys. They will review their current status of research and development. Dilute Nitrides (III-N-V) Semiconductors: Physics and Technology organises the most current available data, providing a ready source of information on a wide range of topics, making this book essential reading for all post graduate students, researchers and practitioners in the fields of Semiconductors and Optoelectronics Contains full account of the advances made in the dilute nitrides, providing an excellent starting point for workers entering the field Gives the reader easier access and better evaluation of future trends, conveying important results and current ideas Includes a generous list of references at the end of each chapter, providing a useful reference to the III-V-N based semiconductors research community
