Book Procedure Retrofitting CFC 12 R 12 Mobile Air Conditioning Systems to HFC 134a R 134a

Download or read book Procedure Retrofitting CFC 12 R 12 Mobile Air Conditioning Systems to HFC 134a R 134a written by Interior Climate Control Service Committee and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this SAE Recommended Practice is to provide a service procedure for retrofitting a CFC-12 (R-12) system to HFC-134a (R-134a) while preserving performance and integrity of the air-conditioning (A/C) system. The steps outlined in this procedure are complete when combined with good service practices and the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations (if available) for retrofitting their models.Separate service equipment, for CFC-12 (R-12) and HFC-134a (R-134a), including refrigerant recovery/ recycle (R/R), service manifolds, vacuum pumps, and charging equipment shall be used to preserve the purity of the refrigerants and the mobile A/C systems. This procedure will minimize release of refrigerant to the atmosphere, and will preserve the integrity of the recycled CFC-12 (R-12) and HFC-134a (R-134a) supplies. This document applies to A/C systems used to cool the passenger compartment of automobiles, light trucks, and other vehicles with similar CFC-12 (R-12) systems. Due to technical advancements in recent years, this procedure is recommended for common vehicle platforms produced in the mid-1980s and later. Vehicles produced before this time period may require additional retrofit requirements. A/C systems used on mobile vehicles for refrigerated cargo that have hermetically sealed systems are not covered by this document. This document is only complete when combined with the requirements of SAE J1657 "Selection Criteria for Retrofit Refrigerants to Replace CFC-12 (R-12) in Mobile Air-conditioning Systems." The technical report covers technology, products, or processes which are mature and not likely to change in the foreseeable future.

Book Changes in Plain Bearing Technology

Download or read book Changes in Plain Bearing Technology written by Rolf Koring and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique fusion of theoretical and practical knowledge, “Changes in Plain Bearing Technology”, by Rolf Koring, covers a meaningful range of expertise in this field. Drawing from years of experience in design development, materials selection, and their correlation to real-life part failure, this title, co-published by SAE International and expert Verlag (Germany), concentrates on hydrodynamic bearings lined with whitemetals, also known as Babbits. Written under the assumption that even the most mature body of knowledge can be revisited and improved, “Changes in Plain Bearing Technology” is a courageous and focused approach to questioning accepted test results and looking at alternative material compounds, and their application suitability. The process, which leads to innovative answers on how the technology is transforming itself to respond to new market requirements, shows how interdisciplinary thinking can recognize new potential in long-established industrial modus operandi. Tackling the highly complex issue of component failure, “Changes in Plain Bearing Technology” addresses the basics of hydrodynamic plain bearings while shedding new light on the performance of compound materials, including the limits of measurable fatigue strength, the lining materials of the future and damage evaluation. Main points of interest in this book are: • The advantages of hydrodynamic plain bearings • Backing and lining materials • Compound materials: the great unknown and new conclusions • Investigations on test rigs • Quality standards for plain bearings • Assembly and operations • Damage of plain bearings and its consequences • The future of the technology “Changes in Plain Bearing Technology” is a must-read for those looking for new solutions in this high-impact area of mechanical engineering.

This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mobile air conditioning (MAC) systems used in passenger cars and light duty trucks are covered by these SAE Standards when servicing the refrigerant system. Technician training is required to ensure that recommended procedures are used for service and repair of MAC systems using R-12, R-134a, R-1234yf, R-744, and R-152a refrigerants. Unique requirements for each refrigerant are detailed within this standard. Technicians may be trained in any or all refrigerants. The technician shall be trained to recognize which refrigerant is being handled and how to handle it safely, and be equipped with the essential information, proper equipment, and tools which are unique to these refrigerants. This standard outlines minimum content requirements for such training programs. Training programs designed in accordance with this standard are not intended to ensure or assess the technical skills of technicians regarding the diagnosis and repair of motor vehicle air conditioners. Rather, the goal of such programs is to provide information to technicians about safely handling refrigerants and control of emissions during service. This SAE Standard is intended to identify the requirements for service technicians to be professionally trained when required to service MAC systems that use refrigerant. Updates are being made to add R-152a and revise some requirements for other refrigerants.
