Book Procedure for the Continuous Sampling and Measurement of Gaseous Emissions from Aircraft Turbine Engines

Download or read book Procedure for the Continuous Sampling and Measurement of Gaseous Emissions from Aircraft Turbine Engines written by E-31G Gaseous Committee and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) describes the continuous sampling and analysis of gaseous emissions from aircraft gas turbine engines. The measured gas species include carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), hydrocarbons (HC) and water vapor (H2O). This ARP excludes engine operating procedures and test modes, and is not intended for in-flight testing, nor does it apply to engines operating in the afterburning mode.It is recognized that there will probably be major advances in the gas analysis measurement technology. It is not the intent of this ARP to exclude other analysis techniques, but to form the basis of the minimum amount of conventional instruments (those in common industry usage over the last fifteen years) required for the analysis of aircraft engine exhaust. It is the responsibility of the analyst to demonstrate the alternative measurement technology has comparable (or better) performance than the techniques described in this ARP.The measurement of other exhaust gas species is beyond the scope of this ARP.It should be noted the measurement of oxygen (O2) is generally accepted as essential for assessing data quality, but is not covered by this ARP. Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is normally not measured using conventional systems but is calculated from fuel sulfur content. Again this is not covered by this ARP. Define the set point temperature range of the hydrocarbon analyzer.

This book was released on 1990 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) describes the continuous sampling and analysis of gaseous emissions from aircraft gas turbine engines and is intended to standardize the emission test procedures1 and equipment for measuring carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, and total hydrocarbons. This ARP is not intended for in-flight testing, nor does it apply to engines operating in the afterburning mode.

Book Procedure for the Calculation of Gaseous Emissions From Aircraft Turbine Engines Supersedes By Air1533

Download or read book Procedure for the Calculation of Gaseous Emissions From Aircraft Turbine Engines Supersedes By Air1533 written by E31Aircraft Engine Gas and Particulate Emissions Measurement and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a procedure for calculation of gaseous emissions data, specifically, emission index, fuel-air ratio, and combustion efficiency for aircraft turbine engines based on the measurement of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, total hydrocarbons, and the oxides of nitrogen. Reference 2.1.1 gives procedures for the measurement of gaseous emissions from aircraft turbine engines. This document includes instructions for the adjustment of the measured concentrations of the constituents of the exhaust for: a. the humidity of the inlet air, b. the carbon dioxide content of the inlet air, c. the interference of carbon dioxide and water on the measured concentrations of carbon monoxide and the oxides of nitrogen, d. the interference of oxygen on the measured concentration of carbon dioxide, e. the efficiency of the converter for changing other oxides of nitrogen to nitric oxide, and f. the basis of measurement (semidry or wet).

Book excerpt: TRB’s Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) Report 63: Measurement of Gaseous HAP Emissions from Idling Aircraft as a Function of Engine and Ambient Conditions is designed to help improve the assessment of hazardous air pollutants (HAP) emissions at airports based on specific aircraft operating parameters and changes in ambient conditions.

Book Procedure for Measurement of Gaseous Emissions from Aircraft Gas Turbine Engines Using Fourier Transform Infrared Analysis

Download or read book Procedure for Measurement of Gaseous Emissions from Aircraft Gas Turbine Engines Using Fourier Transform Infrared Analysis written by E-31G Gaseous Committee and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Aerospace Information Report (AIR) describes the use of FTIR analyzers for measurements of gaseous emissions from aircraft gas turbine engines and combustion rigs. The use of FTIR analyzers can be demonstrated as a suitable and cost-effective equivalent to NDIR and chemiluminescence analyzers as prescribed in ARP1256 for the measurement of CO, CO2, NO, and NO2, where NOx is closely approximated by the sum of NO and NO2 concentrations. FTIR analyzers may be proven suitable for equivalency of analyzers used in current emission testing. Additionally, FTIR analyzers have potential for equivalent measurements of "total" hydrocarbon (THC) as currently defined in ARP1256. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analyzers can measure gaseous emissions from combustion sources with similar accuracy to present non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) and chemiluminescent-type analyzers recommended by ARP1256 and required by ICAO Annex 16 Vol II. This Aerospace Information Report (AIR) summarizes experience in the use of FTIR instruments in measuring aircraft gas turbine engine and combustion rig exhaust effluents by extraction. The intent of this AIR is to discuss the FTIR analysis method and document the use of FTIR gas analyzer instrumentation prior to development of a future FTIR ARP document. Adoption of FTIR instruments in a measurement system will reduce the number of analyzers currently necessary and may provide the capability to measure detailed hydrocarbon species.

Book Critical Assessment of Emissions from Aircraft Piston Engines

Download or read book Critical Assessment of Emissions from Aircraft Piston Engines written by W Mirsky and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive mathematical analysis for evaluating the measured emissions from piston type general aviation aircraft engines is presented and discussed. The analysis is used to calculate the fuel-air ratio, molecular weight of the exhaust products, and water correction factor. Further. a sensitivity analysis is presented which shows the effects of emission measurement errors on calculated fuel-air ratio. The University's test facility is briefly described and the associated emissions instrumentation is discussed in detail. The experimental results obtained in this facility on the AVCO-Lycoming LIO-320 engine are presented. This includes baseline and lean-out emissions data and the influence of sampling probe location in the exhaust pipe. The influence of leaks in the exhaust system or emissions console are investigated and evaluated in terms of the mathematical model. Experimental data obtained from various facilities are compared and evaluated. (Author).
