Book Problems in Elementary Woodworking

Download or read book Problems in Elementary Woodworking written by Hugo J. P. Vitz and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Problems in Elementary Woodworking: Graded for Instruction by the Group Method The usual practice in elementary manual training has been to omit all strictly exercise pieces. However, the author's experience has been that a preliminary exercise embracing the fundamental tools and proc esses at the beginning Of a course, while the interest is naturally fresh, is very helpful, insuring far better work than when it is omitted. In, fact, the exercise here given has been used by the author with splendid results at the beginning of every year in every course in hand woodworking, whether the pupil had previous experience or not. To say the least, a good exercise is a splendid brief review of tools and processes which form the basis for all later work. Book Problems in Farm Woodwork

Download or read book Problems in Farm Woodwork written by Samuel A. Blackburn and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Problems in Farm Woodwork: For Agricultural Schools, High Schools, Industrial Schools, and Country Schools In many of these agricultural high schools, short courses are given during the four winter months for the benefit of those young men and women on the farm who have found it impossible to attend school thruout the year. To the young men in these classes, the practical work that can be given in the manual training courses appeals strongly. In many cases, boys become enough interested in work of this character to procure sets of tools for use in their own shops on the farm. With the understanding of the use of tools and of terms used in woodworking such as are learned in the manual training classes, and with the help of problems such as are ofiered in this book, these boys can work out many things by themselves and become proficient in this kind of work. Book Manual Training for the Rural Schools

Download or read book Manual Training for the Rural Schools written by Louis Michael Roehl and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual Training for the Rural Schools: A Group of Farm and Farm Home Woodworking Problems A shop containing a workbench and tools on every farm is necessary not only to keep the farm equipment in order but as a place and means for the boys to tinker at such work as suits their fancy. A workbench and a kit of tools are desirable equipment for the schools that the older boys may receive training to do construction and repair work and satisfy their desire to work with tools. The Workbench herein suggested is suited to do the kind of work indicated by the appliances on the following pages. It is suggested that the teachers and school boards who desire to have this work in their schools do not depend on the boys to construct the benches for the school but rather hire a carpenter to do the work. After the boys have done considerable of the work constructing the appliances it may be desirable to have them build benches for their own use at home. Book Beginning Woodwork at Home and in School Classic Reprint

Download or read book Beginning Woodwork at Home and in School Classic Reprint written by Clinton Sheldon Van Deusen and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Beginning Woodwork at Home and in School A list of the tools necessary in doing the work outlined in this book may be found in the Appendix, page 9-7. Material. One must work with each particular kind Of lumber in order to acquire a knowledge -of its qualities. For this reason, it is proposed to use six varieties of lumber in the problems described in this book. Each is especially suited to the problem in which it is used. Other kinds might be substituted, but not without sacrificing some of the advantages of the work. Lumber to be in good condition for working should be well seasoned; that is, a large part of the sap that was in the wood when the tree was standing should be removed. Seasoned lumber will absorb moisture if kept in a damp place; there fore it is best to keep it in a dry place. If the entire amount listed in the Appendix (page 98) is purchased at one time, it is advisable to pile it in layers with an air space between the pieces and with adjacent lavers extending at right angles to each other. If piled in the reverse order from the list given, each piece may be removed from the top of the pile as needed. A box should be provided in which to keep nails, screws, etc., and at no time should they be left loose on the bench or in other places where tools might be brought in contact with them and thus become injured. Book Problems in Carpentry

Download or read book Problems in Carpentry written by Louis Michael Roehl and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Problems in Carpentry: A Course in Practical Carpentry for Manual Training Classes Carpentry is now being introduced into the more progressive schools, and, when properly presented, fulfills one of the chief aims of vocational teaching. A course in carpentry such as is here outlined not only gives the student an insight into the build ing trades, but develops thought, observa tion, and the necessary practical training of the hand. The great difficulty in teaching carpentry has been the lack of a method that would give the student actual carpentry work to do. Various systems have been tried, all of which are open to serious objections. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Carpenter s and Builder s Assistant and Wood Worker s Guide Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2017-10-21 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Carpenter's and Builder's Assistant, and Wood Worker's Guide The experience of workmen generally will testify that. Books have, as yet, furnished them but small assistance in the theory and art of construction. The object of the author in publishing this work, is to furnish them with rules for finding sections of pieces placed in any position; for cutting every description of joints; for finding the form of the raking mould at any point divergent from the straight line for springing and bending mouldings for mitering circular mouldings, and planes oblique to the base at any angle; and an easy system of building stairs and railing for straight and platform stairs. And eight plates containing steel square problems. Together with these rules, the author presents tables of the weight, and cohesive strength of the different materials used in the construction of buildings, as well as the weight required to crush said materials a treatise on the adhesion of nails, screws, iron pins and glue; and a geometrical and mathematical demonstra tion for finding the circumference, and squaring the circle. There can be but little doubt that a work of this kind is needed by Architects and Builders, and especially by Carpenters and Wood-workers, who are inexperienced in the different kinds of labor which they are called upon to perform.
