Download or read book Prix Pictet written by David Christian and published by Hatje Cantz Verlag. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Fire written by Prix Pictet and published by Te Neues Publishing Company. This book was released on 2022-01-10 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: - For the ninth time, the Prix Pictet honors the most impressive photographs of our society and environment - A powerful collection of photographic art, compelling for anyone interested in sustainability, climate change, and biodiversity - Following the award ceremony and exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, in December 2021, further exhibitions follow in New York and other cities around the globe Fire is the fourth element. It destroys and creates something new. In its heat, colors, and magnitude, it provides a terrifying spectacle as much as an existential threat. Today, it speaks as much to the fragility of human structures as to the damage wrought on nature: the fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, forest fires from the Amazon to Australia, and infernos in California so colossal that the sky turned red. Reason enough for the Prix Pictet, the world's leading award for photography and sustainability, to dedicate this year's photo book to the many facets of fire. Selected by photography experts from around the world, this impressive publication features over 100 images from the Prix Pictet shortlist and beyond. As compelling in its visuals as it is in its messaging, this is an unforgettable document of an elemental force, and of the increasing extremes of climate change.

Download or read book earth written by Peter Kennard and published by Tate. This book was released on 2011-09-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains no words: instead it tells its story in the universal language of photomontage, long the favoured medium of radical artists. The author is one such, whose work has consistently questioned power structures and injustice, from his anti-nuclear works of the 1980s to his powerful works in response to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. This photo-essay in seven chapters, combining new works, made together with Tarek Salhany, with iconic images from throughout the author's 40-year career. It makes a powerful statement about the impending eco-crisis, the arms race and the injustices of the power structures dominating today's world.

Download or read book Janelle Lynch Another Way of Looking at Love written by and published by . This book was released on 2018-09-25 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 'Another Way of Looking at Love', the landscape is explored as a metaphor to consider the personal, societal, and environmental consequences of disconnection, and simultaneously, our yearning to be connected. From 2015-2018, Janelle Lynch (born 1969) has used an 8 x 10 camera to create still lives in the landscape that combine similar and disparate visual and biological elements. This process begins by identifying details in nature that, based on a unique vantage point, created geometric formations of closure. The connective point, or nucleus, that is created by the union becomes the artist?s plane of focus. The work is informed by Lynch?s recent immersion in drawing and painting from perception, primarily by charcoal mark-making?a new aspect of her practice that has allowed for a deeper inquiry into the nature of seeing, such as: formal abstraction, color relativity, and the notion of relationality.

Download or read book Hold Still written by Sally Mann and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2015-05-12 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This National Book Award finalist is a revealing and beautifully written memoir and family history from acclaimed photographer Sally Mann. In this groundbreaking book, a unique interplay of narrative and image, Mann's preoccupation with family, race, mortality, and the storied landscape of the American South are revealed as almost genetically predetermined, written into her DNA by the family history that precedes her. Sorting through boxes of family papers and yellowed photographs she finds more than she bargained for: "deceit and scandal, alcohol, domestic abuse, car crashes, bogeymen, clandestine affairs, dearly loved and disputed family land . . . racial complications, vast sums of money made and lost, the return of the prodigal son, and maybe even bloody murder." In lyrical prose and startlingly revealing photographs, she crafts a totally original form of personal history that has the page-turning drama of a great novel but is firmly rooted in the fertile soil of her own life.

Download or read book Photography as Activism written by Michelle Bogre and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2012-11-12 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You want to look through the lens of your camera and change the world. You want to capture powerful moments in one click that will impact the minds of other people. Photographic images are one of the most popular tools used to advocate for social and environmental awareness. This can be as close to home as drug use, prostitution, or pollution or as far away as famine, war, and the plight of refugees and migrant workers. One well-known example of an activist photographer would be landscape photographer Ansel Adams, who trudged to Washington with stunning images of the American west to advocate protecting these areas. His images and testimony were instrumental in creating the National Park System and garnering specific protection for Yellowstone National Park. More recently Robert Glenn Ketchum's images of Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge raised awareness of why this area should be protected. Nigel Barker's seal photographs advocates against seal clubbing. What is your cause and how can you use your camera to make the world a better place? This book provides a comprehensive theory of, and history of, photography as activism. It also includes interviews with contemporary photographers. It is a call to action for young photographers to become activists, a primer of sorts, with advice for how to work with NGOs and non-profits, how to work safely in conflict zones and with suggestions for distribution on websites, blogs, and interactive agencies.
