Book Privacy Preserving Range Query Search Over Encrypted Numeric Data in Cloud

Download or read book Privacy Preserving Range Query Search Over Encrypted Numeric Data in Cloud written by Yongmin Yan and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In cloud computing, to protect privacy when outsourcing database management systems, confidential data (e.g., bank account balance) has to be encrypted which however renders traditional query processing methods (e.g., the B-tree index) inapplicable. In this thesis, we consider processing range query search (e.g., retrieving all records with a bank account balance being less than some threshold) over a confidential numeric attribute with two main challenges. First, the confidentiality requires hiding the value and the relative order of the attribute in records from the cloud server, but computing a range query requires comparing the values of this attribute. Second, since the encrypted data does not preserve the closeness of plaintext values (for privacy reasons), a straightforward search has to scan the entire encrypted data to retrieve wanted records, which is not scalable for data of the cloud scale. In this work, we present a novel searchable encryption/index scheme to address these challenges.

Book Algorithms for Data and Computation Privacy

Download or read book Algorithms for Data and Computation Privacy written by Alex X. Liu and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-11-28 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the state-of-the-art algorithms for data and computation privacy. It mainly focuses on searchable symmetric encryption algorithms and privacy preserving multi-party computation algorithms. This book also introduces algorithms for breaking privacy, and gives intuition on how to design algorithm to counter privacy attacks. Some well-designed differential privacy algorithms are also included in this book. Driven by lower cost, higher reliability, better performance, and faster deployment, data and computing services are increasingly outsourced to clouds. In this computing paradigm, one often has to store privacy sensitive data at parties, that cannot fully trust and perform privacy sensitive computation with parties that again cannot fully trust. For both scenarios, preserving data privacy and computation privacy is extremely important. After the Facebook–Cambridge Analytical data scandal and the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation by European Union, users are becoming more privacy aware and more concerned with their privacy in this digital world. This book targets database engineers, cloud computing engineers and researchers working in this field. Advanced-level students studying computer science and electrical engineering will also find this book useful as a reference or secondary text.

Book Privacy preserving Query Processing Over Encrypted Data in Cloud

Download or read book Privacy preserving Query Processing Over Encrypted Data in Cloud written by Yousef M. Elmehdwi and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The query processing of relational data has been studied extensively throughout the past decade. A number of theoretical and practical solutions to query processing have been proposed under various scenarios. With the recent popularity of cloud computing, data owners now have the opportunity to outsource not only their data but also data processing functionalities to the cloud. Because of data security and personal privacy concerns, sensitive data (e.g., medical records) should be encrypted before being outsourced to a cloud, and the cloud should perform query processing tasks on the encrypted data only. These tasks are termed as Privacy-Preserving Query Processing (PPQP) over encrypted data. Based on the concept of Secure Multiparty Computation (SMC), SMC-based distributed protocols were developed to allow the cloud to perform queries directly over encrypted data. These protocols protect the confidentiality of the stored data, user queries, and data access patterns from cloud service providers and other unauthorized users. Several queries were considered in an attempt to create a well-defined scope. These queries included the k-Nearest Neighbor (kNN) query, advanced analytical query, and correlated range query. The proposed protocols utilize an additive homomorphic cryptosystem and/or a garbled circuit technique at different stages of query processing to achieve the best performance. In addition, by adopting a multi-cloud computing paradigm, all computations can be done on the encrypted data without using very expensive fully homomorphic encryptions. The proposed protocols' security was analyzed theoretically, and its practicality was evaluated through extensive empirical results"--Abstract, page iii.

Book Querying over Encrypted Data in Smart Grids

Download or read book Querying over Encrypted Data in Smart Grids written by Mi Wen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This SpringerBrief presents the concept of the smart grid architecture and investigates the security issues of the smart grid and the existing encrypted data query techniques. Unique characteristics of smart grid impose distinguished challenges on this investigation, such as multidimensional attributes in metering data and finer grained query on each dimension. Three kinds of queries are introduced, namely, equality query, conjunctive query and range query. For the equality query over encrypted metering data, an efficient searchable encryption scheme is introduced and can be applied for auction in emerging smart grid marketing. Later chapters examine the conjunctive query and range query over encrypted data. Different techniques are used, including the Public key Encryption with Keyword Search (PEKS) and Hidden Vector Encryption (HVE), to construct the comparison predicate and range query predicate. Their correctness is demonstrated in the book. Concise and practical, Encrypted Data Querying in Smart Grids is valuable for professionals and researchers involved in data privacy or encryption. It is also useful for graduate students interested in smart grid and related technologies.

Book Energy Efficient Computing and Communication

Download or read book Energy Efficient Computing and Communication written by Sangheon Pack and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-06-18 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information and communication technology (ICT) is reponsible for up to 10% of world power consumption. In particular, communications and computing systems are indispensable elements in ICT; thus, determining how to improve the energy efficiency in communications and computing systems has become one of the most important issues for realizing green ICT. Even though a number of studies have been conducted, most of them focused on one aspect—either communications or computing systems. However, salient features in communications and computing systems should be jointly considered, and novel holistic approaches across communications and computing systems are strongly required to implement energy-efficient systems. In addition, emerging systems, such as energy-harvesting IoT devices, cyber-physical systems (CPSs), autonomous vehicles (AVs), and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), require new approaches to satisfy their strict energy consumption requirements in mission-critical situations. The goal of this Special Issue is to disseminate the recent advances in energy-efficient communications and computing systems. Review and survey papers on these topics are welcome. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following: • energy-efficient communications: from physical layer to application layer; • energy-efficient computing systems; • energy-efficient network architecture: through SDN/NFV/network slicing; • energy-efficient system design; • energy-efficient Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial IoT (IIoT); • energy-efficient edge/fog/cloud computing; • new approaches for energy-efficient computing and communications (e.g., AI/ML and data-driven approaches); • new performance metrics on energy efficiency in emerging systems; • energy harvesting and simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT); • smart grid and vehicle-to-grid (V2G); and • standardization and open source activities for energy efficient systems.

Book Privacy Preserving in Mobile Crowdsensing

Download or read book Privacy Preserving in Mobile Crowdsensing written by Chuan Zhang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-24 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mobile crowdsensing is a new sensing paradigm that utilizes the intelligence of a crowd of individuals to collect data for mobile purposes by using their portable devices, such as smartphones and wearable devices. Commonly, individuals are incentivized to collect data to fulfill a crowdsensing task released by a data requester. This “sensing as a service” elaborates our knowledge of the physical world by opening up a new door of data collection and analysis. However, with the expansion of mobile crowdsensing, privacy issues urgently need to be solved. In this book, we discuss the research background and current research process of privacy protection in mobile crowdsensing. In the first chapter, the background, system model, and threat model of mobile crowdsensing are introduced. The second chapter discusses the current techniques to protect user privacy in mobile crowdsensing. Chapter three introduces the privacy-preserving content-based task allocation scheme. Chapter four further introduces the privacy-preserving location-based task scheme. Chapter five presents the scheme of privacy-preserving truth discovery with truth transparency. Chapter six proposes the scheme of privacy-preserving truth discovery with truth hiding. Chapter seven summarizes this monograph and proposes future research directions. In summary, this book introduces the following techniques in mobile crowdsensing: 1) describe a randomizable matrix-based task-matching method to protect task privacy and enable secure content-based task allocation; 2) describe a multi-clouds randomizable matrix-based task-matching method to protect location privacy and enable secure arbitrary range queries; and 3) describe privacy-preserving truth discovery methods to support efficient and secure truth discovery. These techniques are vital to the rapid development of privacy-preserving in mobile crowdsensing.

Book Privacy preserving Query Processing on Health Data

Download or read book Privacy preserving Query Processing on Health Data written by Mohammad Hoseyn Sheykholeslam and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the huge volume of digital data and the underlying complexity of data management, people and companies are motivated to outsource their computational requirements to the cloud. A significant portion of these productions are used in health applications. While popular cloud computing platforms provide flexible and low-priced solutions, unfortunately, they do so with little support for data security and privacy. This shortcoming clearly threatens sensitive data in cloud platforms. This is especially true for health information, which should always be adequately secured via encryption. Providing secure storage and access to health information that is generated by systems or used in applications, is the main challenge in today's health care systems. As a result, owners of sensitive information may hesitate in purchasing such services, given the risks associated with the unauthorized access to their data. Considering this problem, researchers have recommended applying encryption algorithms. Data owners never disclose encryption keys in order to keep their encrypted data secure. Because cloud platforms can not search in data which is encrypted with regular encryption algorithms, it is supposed that data owners conceal their secrets with searchable encryption algorithms. Searchable encryption is a family of cryptographic protocols that facilitate private keyword searches directly on encrypted data. These protocols allow data owners to upload their encrypted data to the cloud, while retaining the ability to query over uploaded data. In this project, we focus on symmetric searchable encryption schemes, as well as apply an efficient searchable encryption scheme which supports multi-keyword searches to provide a privacy preserving keyword search framework for health data. Our framework applies a recent secure searchable encryption scheme and employs an inverted indexing structure in order to process queries in a privacy-preserving manner.
